  • In an autonomous driving environment, dynamic recognition of objects is essential as the situation changes in real time. In addition, as the number of sensors and control modules built into an autonomous vehicle increases, the amount of data the central control unit has to process also rapidly increases. By minimizing the output data from the sensor, the load on the central control unit can be reduced. This study proposes a dynamic object recognition algorithm solely using the embedded processor on a LiDAR sensor. While there are open source algorithms to process the point cloud output from LiDAR sensors, most require a separate high-performance processor. Since the embedded processors installed in LiDAR sensors often have resource constraints, it is essential to optimize the algorithm for efficiency. In this study, an embedded processor based object recognition algorithm was developed for autonomous vehicles, and the correlation between the size of the point clouds and processing time was analyzed. The proposed object recognition algorithm evaluated that the processing time directly increased with the size of the point cloud, with the processor stalling at a specific point if the point cloud size is beyond the threshold

  • With the massive demand and growth of cloud computing, virtualization plays an important role in providing services to end-users efficiently. However, with the increase in services over Cloud Computing, it is becoming more challenging to manage and run multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) in Cloud Computing because of excessive power consumption. It is thus important to overcome these challenges by adopting an efficient technique to manage and monitor the status of VMs in a cloud environment. Reduction of power/energy consumption can be done by managing VMs more effectively in the datacenters of the cloud environment by switching between the active and inactive states of a VM. As a result, energy consumption reduces carbon emissions, leading to green cloud computing. The proposed Efficient Dynamic VM Scheduling approach minimizes Service Level Agreement (SLA) violations and manages VM migration by lowering the energy consumption effectively along with the balanced load. In the proposed work, VM Scheduling for Efficient Dynamically Migrated VM (VMS-EDMVM) approach first detects the over-utilized host using the Modified Weighted Linear Regression (MWLR) algorithm and along with the dynamic utilization model for an underutilized host. Maximum Power Reduction and Reduced Time (MPRRT) approach has been developed for the VM selection followed by a two-phase Best-Fit CPU, BW (BFCB) VM Scheduling mechanism which is simulated in CloudSim based on the adaptive utilization threshold base. The proposed work achieved a Power consumption of 108.45 kWh, and the total SLA violation was 0.1%. The VM migration count was reduced to 2,202 times, revealing better performance as compared to other methods mentioned in this paper.

  • In this study, we propose a revised dynamic ROI (Region-of-Interest) coding method in which the focused ROI is automatically extracted without help from users during the recovery process of low DOF (Depth-of-Field) JPEG2000 image. The proposed method creates edge mask information using high frequency sub-band data on a specific level in DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform), and then identifies the edge code block for a high-speed ROI extraction. The algorithm scans the edge mask data in four directions by the unit of code block and identifies the edge code block simply and fastly using a edge threshold. As the results of experimentation applying for Implicit method, the proposed method showed the superiority in the side of speed and quality comparing to the existing methods.

A Study On the Retention Time Distribution with Plasma Damage Effect

  • The control of the data retention time is a main issue for realizing future high density dynamic random access memory. There are several leakage current mechanisms in which the stored data disappears. The mechanisms of data disappear is as follow, 1 )Junction leakage current between the junction, 2) Junction leakage current from the capacitor node contact, 3)Sub-threshold leakage current if the transfer transistor is affected by gate etch damage etc. In this paper we showed the plasma edge damage effect to find out data retention time effectiveness. First we measured the transistor characteristics of forward and reverse bias. And junction leakage characteristics are measured with/without plasma damage by HP4145. Finally, we showed the comparison TRET with etch damage, damage_cure_RTP and hydrogen_treatment. As a result, hydrogen_treatment is superior than any other method in a curing plasma etch damage side.

  • Recently ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology is facing challenges from Integrated Service IP(Internet Protocol), IP router, Gigabit Ethernet. Although ATM is approved by ITU-T as the standard technology in B-ISDN, its survival is still in question. In the ATM networks, the Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accommodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)/IP based traffic. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum throughput at the frame level, but also supports a fairshare of available resources. We have studied different discarding and scheduling schemes, and compared their throughput and fairness when TCP/IP Traffic is carried. Through simulations, we know that only per-VC queueing with weighted Round Robin(WRR) can guarantee Minimum Cell Rate Among all the Schemes that have been experimented, we recommend DT-EPD(Dynamic Threshold-Early Packet Discard) integrated with MCRplus(Minimum Cell Rate) to support the GFR service.

  • This paper proposes an analytical redundancy technique for fault diagnostics of the sensor in steer-by-wire system. We use incorporating vehicle dynamics modeling into the design of a diagnostic system for steer-by-wire system. The use of a model of vehicle dynamics improves the speed and accuracy of the diagnoses. The proposed fault diagnostics algorithm is based on parity-space methods to generate residuals. To reduce the effects of modeling uncertainty and dynamic transients, the residuals are subject to filtering. We construct diagnostic system consisting residual threshold for detection and isolator with using the directional residual vector.

  • Results of theoretical investigations of the stability characteristics of externally pressurized air journal bearing, of which bearing is synchronously vibrate with respect to rotor, are presented. Linearized perturbation method is used to get the dynamic coefficients of air bearing, and the Routh-Hurwitz criterion is used to obtain stability map. The stability characteristics operating at zero steady-state eccentricity is investigated of various phase difference of bearing to rotor. It is shown that stability of air bearing is greatly influenced by synchronous motion of bearing, there exists optimum phase difference which gives maximum stability threshold.

  • The machine-part group formation(MPGF) problem arises frequently in FMS planning. By viewing the problem as one of finding good assignments, a powerful solution algorithm is presented. The new algorithm solves the threshold dilemma found in previous solution procedures employing similarity coefficients. It also compared favorably with other existing MPGF algorithms by finding minimum exceptional elements for the tested problems. Furthermore the new algorithm can solve dynamic and more realistic MPGF problems by considering production volumes or costs. Such diverse machine-part relationship values were not considered in previous MPGF studies, which included only 0,1 incidence values. An example problem is solved where production volumes are the elements of MPGF incidence matrix.

  • In this paper, a predator-prey model with stage structure and distributed delay is investigated. Mathematical analyses of the model equation with regard to boundedness of solutions, nature of equilibria, permanence, extinction and stability are performed. By the comparison theorem, a set of easily verifiable sufficient conditions are obtained for the global asymptotic stability of nonnegative equilibria of the model. Taking the product of the per-capita rate of predation and the rate of conversing prey into predator as the bifurcating parameter, we prove that there exists a threshold value beyond which the positive equilibrium bifurcates towards a periodic solution.

  • In this paper, we proposed the automatic vision inspection system using multi-layer perceptron to detect the defects occurred on rail surface. The proposed system consists of image acquisition part and analysis part. Rail surface image is acquired as equal interval using line scan camera and lighting. Mean filter and dynamic threshold is used to reduce noise and segment defect area. Various features to characterize the defects are extracted. And they are used to train and distinguish defects by MLP-classifier. The system is installed on HEMU-430X and applied to analyze the rail surface images acquired from Honam-line at high speed up to 300 km/h. Recognition rate is calculated through comparison with manual inspection results.
