  • PURPOSE: This study was aimed to investigate the effects of pelvic movements-based training on trunk stability and balance during sitting in children with spastic cerebral palsy. METHODS: Ten children with spastic cerebral palsy were matched to an intervention (n=5) or control group (n=5). The intervention consisted of two weeks of pelvic movements-based training, five times a week. All participants were evaluated before, during, and after pelvic movements-based training using a trunk impairment scale (TIS) for trunk stability and a modified functional reaching test for balance during sitting. The collected data were analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA and the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS: The results of this study were as follows: 1) Significant increases in the TIS score (only dynamic balance) and forward reaching were observed in the experimental group, compared with the control group, after training (P<.05). 2) There were statistically significant time-factor increases within and between the subject' effects, in the TIS score (dynamic balance and total), dominant side, non-dominant side, and forward reaching (P<.05). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this study showed that for children with spastic cerebral palsy, pelvic movements-based training improves trunk stability and balance during sitting. Further studies will be required to determine the long-term effects of pelvic movements-based training.

  • Stadium stand could be led to significant dynamic response due to rhythmical activities of spectator. The dynamic loads induced by spectators movements are considered as static loads in design standard of many countries but these loads have dynamic characteristics. So, it is desirable to apply measured dynamic loads created by spectator activities and to analyze the dynamic behavior of stadium system. The precise investigation of the dynamic loads on stadium structures and the accurate analysis of dynamic behavior of stadium systems are demanded for effective design. As the floor mesh of stadium stand is refined, the number of nodes increase in numerical analysis. So it is difficult to analyze entire stadium structures and much more computer memory are necessary for vibration analysis of stadium system. In this study, the various dynamic loads induced by spectator movements are measured and analyzed. And new modeling method that reduce the nodal points of stadium systems are introduced. Vibration analysis of stadium system is executed to inspect the accuracy and the efficiency of proposed method in this paper.

  • This paper is concerned with the artificial control of prosthetic devices using the electromyographic(EMG) activities of biceps and triceps in human subject during isometric contraction adjustments at the elbow. And it was analysised about recognition of EMG signals and dynamic characteristics at arm movements of human. For this study the error signal of autoregressive(AR) model were used to discriminate arm movement patterns of human. Interaction of dynamic characteristics (Position, Velocity, Acceleration) and EMG of biceps and triceps at arm movements of human was measured.

  • We investigate interconnectedness and the contagion effect of default risk in Asian sovereign CDS markets since the global financial crisis. Using dynamic conditional correlation analysis, we find that there are significant co-movements in Asian sovereign CDS markets; that such co-movements tend to be larger between developing countries than between developed and developing countries; and that in the co-movements intra-regional nature is stronger than inter-regional nature. With the Spillover Index model, we measure contagion probabilities of sovereign default risk in CDS markets of seven Asian countries and find evidence of contagion effects among six of them; Japan is the exception. In addition, we find that these six countries are affected more by cross-market spillovers than by their own-market spillovers. Furthermore, a rolling-sample analysis reveals that contagion in the Asian sovereign CDS markets expands during episodes of extreme economic and financial distress, such as the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, the European financial crisis, and the US-credit downgrade.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the diagrammatic design approaches and programmatic design approaches in contemporary architecture, so that this reveals the sequential systems of circulation in the space and liberal movement of the visitors in the buildings of those diagrammatic and programmatic architecture. Contemporary architecture generates the new forms and meanings through the dynamic visions and perspectives. Such a variation of sequential vistas and dynamic visions produce a perception of time and a potential movements of axis in the perspective. This study give the systematic body to the relations among visions, movements, sequences, forms, circulations and time. Diagrammatic and programmatic design approaches show the heterogeneous spaces and the informal architectures in contemporary architecture. Therefore, movements of various view points, differrentiations of objects in the perspectives, and multiple view frames appears in the designs of initiative architects. In conclusion, this study systemizes the concepts of time, sequential movements, and perceptions of events in contemporary architecture through the analyse of 18 architectural works of important architects in 2000s. And this shows details of the transitional movement of space and the perception of time in contemporary Architecture. The Being of the active time constructs formal transformations, spacial differentiations, accumulations of human behaviors, and movements of circulations involved with experiences of the field of senses. Therefore, Zeitlichkeit is perceived through concepts of the sequences of those spaces, forms, behaviors, and memories.

  • Retractable roof system is one of the special feature in stadium or complex structure. And this retractable roof system makes possible to use spacial structure all-weather. This retractable roof system is able to classified into overlapping, parallel movement and folding system. Moving load, impact load, inertial or braking loads, these dynamic loads induced by movements of retractable roof system. So it is necessary to analysis of spacial structures are subjected to these dynamic loads. Dynamic loads that are induced by the retractable roof movements can be applied to moving mass method or moving force method. But, moving force method is appropriate because the retractable roof movements is slow relatively. In this paper, new application method of moving forces induced by the retractable roof movements is proposed. And vibration analysis of spacial structures are executed by using the proposed method. This proposed equivalent moving force can be easily applied to spacial structure that is subjected to dynamic loads induced by movement of the retractable roof system.

  • This paper is intended to investigate interaction response of a train running over a suspension bridge undergoing support settlements. The suspension bridge is modeled as a single-span suspended beam with hinged ends and the train as successive moving oscillators with identical properties. To conduct this dynamic problem with non-homogeneous boundary conditions, this study first divides the total response of the suspended beam into two parts: the static and dynamic responses. Then, the coupled equations of motion for the suspended beam carrying multiple moving oscillators are transformed into a set of nonlinearly coupled generalized equations by Galerkin's method, and solved using the Newmark method with an incremental-iterative procedure including the three phases: predictor, corrector, and equilibrium-checking. Numerical investigations demonstrate that the present iterative technique is available in dealing with the dynamic interaction problem of vehicle/bridge coupling system and that the differential movements of bridge supports will significantly affect the dynamic response of the running vehicles but insignificant influence on the bridge response.

  • As environmental vibration requirements on precision equipments get more stringent, use of pneumatic vibration isolators becomes more crucial and, hence, their dynamic performance needs to be further improved. Dynamic behavior of those pneumatic vibration isolation tables is very important to both manufacturer and customer as performance specifications. Together with conventional transmissibility, transient response characteristics are another critical performance index especially when movements of components, e.g., x-y tables, of the precision equipments are very dynamic. In this paper, analysis on transient response of a pneumatic vibration isolation table loaded by a mass moving on it is presented. This is a conventional dynamics problem on a rigid body with 6 degree of freedom and a mass with another degree of freedom. How to obtain transient responses of the isolation table is described when the movements of the mass are prescribed relative to the table.

  • Cable-stayed bridges are often used in modern bridge engineering for connecting two geographical points of long distance. A special load case to cable-stayed bridges is earthquake, which can produce horizontal as well as vertical movements on the pylons of the bridge. These movements may be transient in nature, i.e., only resulting in the transient vibration of the bridge, but causing no damage consequences. In some extreme cases, they may cause permanent subsidence on one or more pylons of the bridge. In this paper, the effect of pylons' subsidence on the dynamic deformations of the bridge and on the cables' strength is thoroughly studied. Conclusions useful to the design of cable-stayed bridges will be drawn from the numerical study.
