In the present computational approach, thermal buckling and frequency characteristics of a doubly curved laminated nanopanel with the aid of Two-Dimensional Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (2D-GDQM) and Nonlocal Strain Gradient Theory (NSGT) are investigated. Additionally, the temperature changes along the thickness direction nonlinearly. The novelty of the current study is in considering the effects of laminated composite and thermal in addition of size effect on frequency, thermal buckling, and dynamic deflections of the laminated nanopanel. The acquired numerical and analytical results are compared by each other to validate the results. The results demonstrate that some geometrical and physical parameters, have noticeable effects on the frequency and pre-thermal buckling behavior of the doubly curved open cylindrical laminated nanopanel. The favorable suggestion of this survey is that for designing the laminated nano-sized structure should pay special attention to size-dependent parameters because nonlocal and length scale parameters have an important role in the static and dynamic behaviors of the laminated nanopanel.
In this paper, we developed DNL(Dynamic Network Loading) model based on Moving cell theory to analyze the dynamic characteristics of traffic flow in congested network. In this paper vehicles entered into link at same interval would construct one cell, and the cells moved according to Cell following rule. In the past researches relating to DNL model a continuous single link is separated into two sections such as running section and queuing section to describe physical queue so that various dynamic states generated in real link are only simplified by running and queuing state. However, the approach has some difficulties in simulating various dynamic flow characteristics. To overcome these problems, we present Moving cell theory which is developed by combining Car following theory and Lagrangian method mainly using for the analysis of air pollutants dispersion. In Moving cell theory platoons are represented by cells and each cell is processed by Cell following theory. This type of simulation model is firstly presented by Cremer et al(1999). However they did not develop merging and diverging model because their model was applied to basic freeway section. Moreover they set the number of vehicles which can be included in one cell in one interval so this formulation cant apply to signalized intersection in urban network. To solve these difficulties we develop new approach using Moving cell theory and simulate traffic flow dynamics continuously by movement and state transition of the cells. The developed model are played on simple network including merging and diverging section and it shows improved abilities to describe flow dynamics comparing past DNL models.
Spandex yarn requires a twisting process during winding and unwinding processes at the textile industry. The air-twist nozzle is widely used as part of the winding and unwinding. This paper describes computational approach to design the geometry of the air-twist nozzle. The nozzle has circular yarn-channel and the air-inlet which is perpendicularly connected to the yarn-channel with yarn-loading slit. The air-inlet of the nozzle is designed while measurements of the yarn-channel are fixed. The airflow inside the air-twist nozzle is simulated by using Computational Fluid Dynamic model. The Ansys CFX was used to perform steady simulations of the airflow for the air-twisting process. The vortical structure and the airflow pattern such as velocity streamline, vorticity, velocity of the air-twist nozzle are discussed. Computational results are compared with experimental results in this paper.
The dynamic behaviour of the rock mass under the dynamic load is different from the static application of the maximum load of the same size. An experimental approach to investigating rock behavior under dynamic loads is more difficult than that under static conditions in control of dynamic loads, measurement and analysis of the results. Numerical methods are less constrained by performing the experiments numerically, rather than experimental ones, so they can be very powerful analytical tool at the design stage. However, even if the algorithms of the analysis method are appropriate, careful analysis is required because the calculation results may vary largely depending on input data and boundary conditions. In this paper, when investigating the behavior of rock structures under dynamic load numerically, the effects of boundary conditions, dynamic load and calculation time step, and dynamic load characteristics on the calculation results were reviewed to provide guidance on setting up boundary conditions and calculation time step related to dynamic analysis.
This study is focused on an integrated numerical modeling enabling one to investigate the dynamic behavior and failure of 2-D textile composite and 3-D orthogonal woven composite structures weakened by micro-cracks and subjected to an impact load. The integrated numerical modeling is based on: I) determination of governing equations via a three-level hierarchy: micro-mechanical unit cell analysis, layer-wise analysis accounting for transverse strains and stresses, and structural analysis based on anisotropic plate layers, II) development of an efficient computational approach enabling one to perform transient response analyses of 2-D plain woven and 3-D orthogonal woven composite structures featuring the matrix cracking and exposed to time-dependent loads, III) determination of the structural characteristics of the textile-layered composites and their degraded features under various geometrical yarn shapes, and finally, IV) assessment of the implications of stiffness degradation on dynamic response to impact loads.

Sloshing loads, produced by the violent liquid free-surface motions inside the cargo tank have become an important design parameter in ship building industry since there have been demands for the increased sizes of the cargo containment system of LNG carriers. In this study, sloshing impact pressure acting on the shell of the spherical cargo tank of an LNG carrier as well as dynamic pressure and flow behavior around the pump tower located at the center of the tank have been calculated. Comparative numerical sloshing simulations for a spherical LNG tank using 2-D LR.FLUIDS which is based on the finite difference method and 3-D MSC.DYTRAN which is capable of calculating nonlinear fluid-structure interaction have been carried out. A method of calculating sloshing-induced dynamic loads and the subsequent structural strength analysis for pump tower of a spherical LNG carrier using MSC. DYTRAN and MSC.NASTRAN have been presented.
This study is connected with evaluation of the progressive collapse resisting capacity for sustainable RC super tall building design. As the progressive collapse is not considered in current design codes in Korea, differences between linear static and dynamic analysis based on the GSA guidelines was analyzed for better evaluation, and the analysis model of flat plate system was determined. Finally, the progressive collapse resisting capacity was evaluated for structural system of super tall building. According to this study, the results by linear dynamic analysis were underestimated than the results by linear static analysis. Thus, the dynamic coefficient value of 2 provides conservative approach. The Effective Beam Width's model, currently used in field, is useful for the analysis about lateral force, but this model does not consider the effect of load redistribution by the slab. Hence, finite element analysis considering slab element will be needed for progressive collapse resisting capacity of the flat plate system. Finally, analysis model of 80-story building designed based on KBC(Korea Building Code) shows the weakness against progressive collapse because the DCR value is over 2. Thus, the countermeasure for alternative loading path such as installment of spandrel beam and reinforcements around slab is required to prevent the progressive collapse.
The free and forced nonlinear dynamic behaviors of Porous Functionally Graded Material (PFGM) plates are examined by means of a High-Order Implicit Algorithm (HOIA). The formulation is developed using the Third-order Shear Deformation Theory (TSDT). Unlike previous works, the formulation is written without resorting to any homogenization technique neither rule of mixture nor considering FGM as a laminated composite, and the distribution of the porosity is assumed to be gradually variable through the thickness of the PFGM plates. Using the Hamilton principle, we establish the governing equations of motion. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to compute approximations of the resulting equations; FEM is adopted using a four-node quadrilateral finite element with seven Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) per node. Nonlinear equations are solved by a HOIA. The accuracy and the performance of the proposed approach are verified by presenting comparisons with literature results for vibration natural frequencies and dynamic response of PFGM plates under external loading. The influences of porosity volume fraction, porosity distribution, slenderness ratio and other parameters on the vibrations of PFGM plate are explored. The results demonstrate the significant impact of different physical and geometrical parameters on the vibration behavior of the PFGM plate.

This paper addresses the systematic procedure using sequential approach for the analysis of the coupled thermo-mechanical behavior of a steady rolling tire. Not only the knowledge of mechanical stresses but also of the temperature loading in a rolling tire are very important because material damage and material properties are significantly affected by the temperature. In general, the thermo-mechanical behavior of a pneumatic tire is highly complex transient phenomenon that requires the solution of a dynamic nonlinear coupled themoviscoelasticity problem with heat source resulting from internal dissipation and friction. In this paper, a sequential approach, with effective calculation schemes, to modeling this system is presented in order to predict the temperature distribution with reasonable sccuracies in a steady state rolling tire. This approach has the three major analysis modules-deformation, dissipation, and thermal modules. In the dissipation module, an analytic method for the calculation of the heat source in a rolling tire is established using viscoelastic theory. For the verification of the calculated temperature profiles and rolling resistance at different velocities, they were compared with the measured ones.
Evaluation of tunnel performance in seismic-prone areas demands efficient means of estimating performance at different hazard levels. The present study introduces an innovative push-over analysis approach which employs the standard earthquake spectrum to simulate the performance of a tunnel. The numerical simulation has taken into account the lining and surrounding rock to calculate the rock-tunnel interaction subjected to a static push-over displacement regime. Elastic perfectly plastic models for the lining and hardening strain rock medium were used to portray the development of plastic hinges, nonlinear deformation, and performance of the tunnel structure. Separately using a computational algorithm, the non-linear response spectrum was approximated from the average shear strain of the rock model. A NATM tunnel in Turkey was chosen for parametric study. A seismic performance curve and two performance thresholds are introduced that are based on the proposed nonlinear seismic static loading approach and the formation of plastic hinges. The tunnel model was also subjected to a harmonic excitation with a smooth response spectrum and different amplitudes in the fully-dynamic phase to assess the accuracy of the approach. The parametric study investigated the effects of the lining stiffness and capacity and soil stiffness on the seismic performance of the tunnel.
