This paper presents a high accuracy Finite Element approach for delamination modelling in laminated composite structures. This approach uses multi-layered shell element and cohesive zone modelling to handle the mechanical properties and damages characteristics of a laminated composite plate under low velocity impact. Both intralaminar and interlaminar failure modes, which are usually observed in laminated composite materials under impact loading, were addressed. The detail of modelling, energy absorption mechanisms, and comparison of simulation results with experimental test data were discussed in detail. The presented approach was applied for various models and simulation time was found remarkably inexpensive. In addition, the results were found to be in good agreement with the corresponding results of experimental data. Considering simulation time and results accuracy, this approach addresses an efficient technique for delamination modelling, and it could be followed by other researchers for damage analysis of laminated composite material structures subjected to dynamic impact loading.

This paper deals with the study of buckling, vibration, and parametric instability characteristics in a damaged cross-ply and angle-ply laminated plate like beam under in-plane harmonic loading, using the finite element approach. Damage is modelled using an anisotropic damage formulation, based on the concept of reduction in stiffness. The effect of damage on free vibration and buckling characteristics of a thin plate like beam has been studied. It has been observed that damage shows a strong orthogonality and in general deteriorates the static and dynamic characteristics. For the harmonic type of loading, analysis was carried out on a thin plate like beam by solving the governing differential equation which is of Mathieu-Hill type, using the method of multiple scales (MMS). The effects of damage and its location on dynamic stability characteristics have been presented. The results indicate that, compared to the undamaged plate like beam, heavily damaged beams show steeper deviations in simple and combination resonance characteristics.
A dynamic reliability model which can take into account the time history of loading sequences may be applied to the analyses of the hydraulic stability of armor units on rubble-mound breakwaters. All the parameters related to the stability of structures have been considered to be constants in the deterministic model until now. Thus, it is impossible to study the effects of some uncertainties of the related random variables on the stability of structures. In this paper, the dynamic reliability model can be developed by POT(Peak Over Threshold) method in order to take into account the time history of loading sequences and to investigate the temporal behaviors of stability of structure with its loading history. Finally, it is confirmed that the results of dynamic reliability model agree with straight- forwardly those of AFDA(Approximate Full Distribution Approach) of the static reliability model for the same input conditions. In addition, the temporal behaviors of probability of failure can be studied by the dynamic reliability model developed to analyze the hydraulic stability of armor units on rubble-mound breakwaters. Therefore, the present results may be useful for the management of repair and maintenance over the whole life cycle of structure.
A semi-analytical numerical approach for the effective structural dynamic response analysis of spar floating substructure for offshore wind turbine subject to wave-induced excitation is introduced in this paper. The wave-induced rigid body motions at the center of mass are analytically solved using the dynamic equations of rigid ship motion. After that, the flexible structural dynamic responses of spar floating substructure for offshore wind turbine are numerically analyzed by letting the analytically derived rigid body motions be the external dynamic loading. Restricted to one-dimensional sinusoidal wave excitation at sea state 3, pitch and heave motions are considered. Through the numerical experiments, the time responses of heave and pitch motions are solved and the wave-induced dynamic displacement and effective stress of flexible floating substructure are investigated. The hydrodynamic interaction between wave and structure is modeled by means of added mass and wave damping, and its modeling accuracy is verified from the comparison of natural frequencies obtained by experiment with a 1/100 scale model.

This paper presents a new analytical approach for the evaluation of the reverse link interference in a CDMA cellular system with unequal cell loading. In particular, the dynamic nature of the reverse link power control has been taken into account in the proposed approach so that a realistic effect of unequal cell loading, including the shadowing and soft handoff, on system capacity may be precisely captured. This is aspect that has not beensuccessfully formmulated and rarely attempted tosolve in any previous analytical approach. Our computational result shows that as the loading of every tier of surrounding cells is doubled, the subscriber capacity of the reference cell can be reduced as much as 27% of that obtained in the case that the effect of power control is not appropriately modeled.
In the past, a number of approaches, such as analytical, numerical or experimental methods, have been developed to deal with the soil-structure interaction effects. However, for many problems with complex geometry and material discontinuity most of approaches are nearly unpractical since it is difficult to model structures and complicated soil profiles precisely. This paper presents a soil-structure interaction analysis approach, which carl consider precisely characteristics of structures and complicated soil profiles. The presented approach overcomes the difficulties by adopting an unaligned mesh generation approach. From numerical examples, the applicability of the proposed approach is validated and dynamic responses of soil-structure systems subjected to earthquake loading are investigated considering characteristics of structures and complicated soil profiles.
This study was carried using the new approach method to design appropriately the Loading Arm length and the alarm setting according to ship movements on Loading and Unloading marine Berth. The quasi-static mooring analysis was performed to estimate 110,000DWT ship's movements based on environmental conditions such as wind, current and wave. The mooring motion of the ship is very important to determine the loading arm scope, and in this case, the operation condition is performed on the ship without considering the damaged condition of the mooring line because the ship movement in case of damage is larger than intact, and all operations are stopped, the loading arm being released due to control system. From the result of mooring analysis, motion displacements, velocities and accelerations were simulated. They were used to simulate the maximum drifting speeds and distances. The maximum drifting speeds were checked to be satisfied within drifting speed limits. The total maximum drifting distances were simulated with alarm steps of the new approach method. Finally, the loading arm envelopes using the total maximum drifting distances were completed. Therefore, it was confirmed that the new approach method for loading arm envelopes and alarm settings was appropriate from the above results. In the future, it will be necessary to perform the further advanced dynamic mooring analysis instead of the quasi-static mooring analysis and to use the precise computer program analysis for various environments and ship movement conditions.
In this paper we discuss the dynamic characteristics of the in-arm type hydropneumatic suspension unit(ISU). For this, two accurate models are introduced. The first one is the Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation which is adopted for the spring behavior of a real gas. This equation is applicable for the high pressure of the nitrogen gas which acts as a spring in ISU system. The second one describes the behavior of a damper, which is divided into four parts - jounce-loading, jounce-unloading, rebound-loading and rebound-unloading. This approach gives a good approximation of the real damper system. For the comparison purpose, the numerical results of the dynamic behavior of ISU system using a real gas and an ideal gas are given in the paper.
A circular tube undergoes bucking behavior when it is subjected to axial loading. An upper bound analysis can be an attractive approach to predict the buckling load and energy absorption efficiently. The upper bound analysis obtains the load or energy absorption by means of assumption of the kinematically admissible velocity fields. In order to obtain an accurate solution, kinematically admissible velocity fields should be defined by considering many factors such as geometrical parameters, dynamic effect, etc. In this study, experiments and finite element analyses are carried out for circular tubes with various dimensions and loading conditions. As a result, the kinematically admissible velocity field is newly proposed in order to consider various dimensions and the strain rate effect of material. The upper bound analysis with the suggested velocity field accurately estimates the mean load and energy absorption obtained from results of experiment and finite element analysis.

For cylindrical shells, the closed-form solutions are confined to the specific boundary and/or loading conditions. Though the finite element method is certainly a powerful solution approach for the structural dynamics problems, it has been well known to provide the solution reliable only in the low frequency region due to the inherent high sensitivities of structual and numerical modeling errors. Instead, the spectral element method has been proved to provide accurate dynamic characteristics of a structure even at the ultrasonic frequency region. Since the wave characteristic of a cylindrical shell becomes identical to that fo a flat plate as the frequency increases, an equivalent plate model (EPM) representing the high-frequency dynamic characteristics of the cylindrical shell is introduced herein. The EPM-based spectral element analysis solutions are compared with the known analytical solutions for the cylindrical shells to confirm the validity of the present modeling approach.
