  • A number of mimetic peptides of apolipoprotein A-I, a major component for high density lipoproteins (HDL), were screened from the phase-displayed random peptide library by utilizing monoclonal antibodies (A12). A mimetic peptide for A12 epitope against apolipoprotein A-I was selected as FVLVRDTFPSSVCCP(pA2) exhibiting 45% homology with Apo A-I in the BLAST search. Solution structure determination of this mimotope was made by using 2D-NMR data and NMR-based distance geometry (DG)/molecular dynamic calculations. The resulting DG structures had low penalty value of 0.4-0.6 ${\AA}^2$ and the total RMSD of 0.7-1.7 ${\AA}$. The mimotope pA2 exhibited a characteristic ${\beta}$-turn conformation from Val[2] to Phe[8] near Pro[9] residue.

  • This paper presents a method of seismic analysis for a 2-D fluid-structure-soil interaction systems. With this method, the fluid can be modeled by spurious free 4-node displacement-based fluid elements which use rotational penalty and mass projection technique in conjunction with the one point reduced integration scheme to remove the spurious zero energy modes. The structure and the near-field soil are discretized by the standard 2-D finite elements, while the unbounded far-field soil is represented by the dynamic infinite elements in the frequency domain. Since this method directly models the fluid-structure-soil interaction systems, it can be applied to the dynamic analysis of a 2-D liquid storage structure with complex geometry. Finally, results of seismic analyses are presented for a spent fuel storage tank embedded in a layered half-space and a massive concrete dam on a layered half-space.

  • A numerical trajectory planning method for path-constrained trajectory planning is proposed which ensures collision-free and time-optimal motions for two robotic manipulators with limited actuator torques and velocities. For each robot, physical constraints of the robots such as limited torques or limited rotational velocities of the actuators are converted to the constraints on velocity and acceleration along the path, which is described by a scalar variable denoting the traveled distance from starting point. Collision region is determined on the coordination space according to the kinematic structures and the geometry of the paths of the robots. An Extended Coordination Space is then constructed` an element of the space determines the postures and the velocities of the robots, and all the constraints described before are transformed to some constraints on the behaviour of the coordination-velocity curves in the space. A dynamic programming technique is them provided with on the discretized Extended Coordination Space to derive a collision-free and time-optimal trajectory pair. Numerical example is included.

  • The purpose of this paper is to reinterpret and visualize the medieval Arab's studies on the geometric methods of solving the cubic equation by utilizing Apollonius' symptom of the parabola. In particular, we investigate the results of $Kam{\bar{a}}l$ $al-D{\bar{i}}n$ ibn $Y{\bar{u}}nus$, Alhazen, Umar al-$Khayy{\bar{a}}m$ and $Al-T{\bar{u}}s{\bar{i}}$ by 4 steps(analysis, construction, proof and examination) which are called the complete solution in the constructions. This paper is available in the current middle school curriculum through dynamic geometry program(Geogebra).

  • Hot-forging Process and die design was made for a large-scale compressor wheel of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with 2-D FE analysis. The design integrated the geometry-controlled approach and dynamic materials modelling(DMM). In order to obtain the processing contour map of Ti-6Al-4V alloy based on DMM, compression tests were carried out in the temperature range of 915$^{\circ}C$ to 1015$^{\circ}C$ and the strain range of 10$\^$-3/s$\^$-1/ to 10s$\^$-1/. In the die design of the compressor wheel using the rigid-plastic FE analysis, forging dimensional accuracy, the capacity of the forging machine and defect-free forging were considered as main design factors. The microstructure of hot forged wheel using the designed die showed a typical alpha-beta structure without forging-defects.

  • In this study, the piezoelectric fan cooling system is investigated. In order to find the proper geometry and configuration, the numerical model for the flow field and heat transfer investigation is used. A simplified nonlinear deformation model is employed for transient solutions of a piezoelectric fan with the dynamic mesh and user defined function capability. The results show that the cooling is most effective when the length of a piezoelectric fan is 5 cm and the cooling plate is 3 cm. The results can be used to develop a new design method of heat sink for piezoelectric fans.

  • Pocket machining is metal removal operation commonly used for creating depressions in machined parts. Numerically controlled milling is the primary means for machining complex die surface. These complex surfaces are generated by a milling cutter which removes material as it traces out pre-specified tool paths. To machine, a component on a CNC machine, part programs which define the cutting tool path are needed. This tool path is usually planned from CAD, and converted to a CAM machine input format. In this paper I proposed a new method for generating NC tool paths. This method generates automatically NC tool paths with dynamic elimination of machining errors in 2$\frac{1}{2}$ arbitrary shaped pockets. This paper generates a spiral-like tool path by dynamic computing optimal pocket of the pocket boundary contour based on the type and size of the milling cutter, the geometry of the pocket contour and surface finish tolerance requirements. This part programming system is PC based and simultaneously generates a G-code file.

  • In the past, a number of approaches, such as analytical, numerical or experimental methods, have been developed to deal with the soil-structure interaction effects. However, for many problems with complex geometry and material discontinuity most of approaches are nearly unpractical since it is difficult to model structures and complicated soil profiles precisely. This paper presents a soil-structure interaction analysis approach, which carl consider precisely characteristics of structures and complicated soil profiles. The presented approach overcomes the difficulties by adopting an unaligned mesh generation approach. From numerical examples, the applicability of the proposed approach is validated and dynamic responses of soil-structure systems subjected to earthquake loading are investigated considering characteristics of structures and complicated soil profiles.

  • The objective of this paper is to get excitation forces of the engine at each of the brackets for the prediction of the vehicle interior noise by the powertrain. A powertrain geometry model is produced by CATIA and its FE model is made by MSC/Patran. A vibration mode analysis and a running mode analysis are experimentally implemented. After getting a satisfied MAC value by doing a correlation about a measured mode analysis value and analyzed value through MSC/Nastran software, all components are assembled through MSC/ADAMS software which is a dynamic analysis tool. We can predict the vibration of brackets which is the last points to occur the force of the engine combustion by analyzing the combustion force produced by engine mechanism.
