The influence of dynamic force balance on the estimation of dynamic uniaxial compression strength (암석시료 내 동적하중 분배특성이 동적일축압축강도에 미치는 영향성에 관한 연구)

  • It has been an always issue for the blasting or the impact analysis to consider the strength characteristics of the rock materials associate with loading rate dependency. Due to the nature of transient loading, the dynamic rock test requires a careful technique to achieve the stress equilibrium state of the specimen. In this study, to investigate the relationship between the rock dynamic strength and the stress equilibrium state, a series of dynamic uniaxial compression tests for Pocheon granite were performed. As a result, the unbalanced stress state on the specimen can lead to the premature failure on the specimen and the less estimation of dynamic strength characteristic as well as the overestimation of strain rate. Consequently, a careful consideration of rock fracture process to achieve the dynamic force balance on the specimen should be required to make an reasonable evaluation of rock dynamic strength.

  • Railway vehicle have three translational motions-longitudinal, vertical and lateral, and three rotational motions-rolling, pitching and yawing caused by track irregularity, wheel and rail characteristic, dynamic behaviors etc. The rolling motion in vehicle mainly happens in cases of the vehicles stationary and running on canted track. When the vehicle positioned in stationary on canted track, vehicle is inclined toward inside of installed cant due to gravity component. When the vehicle has running on a track with cant deficiency, vehicle is inclined toward outside of installed cant due to centrifugal force. The roll coefficient(s) is defined as the ratio between the angle of inclination of the vehicle($\eta$) and the angle of the rail level($\alpha$). This paper has noted the test method, test result and analysis result to calculate the roll coefficient according to UIC505-5, international standard

  • Generally the high-voltage and high-current making switch is used to test the short-circuit test. The making switch should be operated always same speed/time and kept electrical-mechanical characteristic. There are spring charge type, hydro-pneumatic type and compressed air type etc. according to operation method of making switch contacts. Especially the making switch contacts of hydro-pneumatic type are moved by actuator and accumulator. To keep same speed/time of contacts and characteristic of making switch, actuator and accumulator should be worked always uniformly. So the dynamic analysis of actuator and accumulator of hydro-pneumatic type making switch will be helpful to maintain and design.

  • This paper is the machine that is able to estimate a new built power convertor in a production line. Generally, this machine test can be achieved by connecting it to a dynamometer consisting of a three-phase machine joined by a rigid shaft to a DC load machine. But the proposal system is controlled to create some specific load characteristic needed for the test without any mechanical equipment. The suggested test stand consists only of a converter to be test and a simulator converter. Both devices are connected back-to-back on the AC-side via smoothing reactors. The simulator operates in real-time as an equivalent load circuit, so that the device under test will only notice the behaviour of a three-phase machine under consideration of the load. And then, to obtain a superior characteristic for dynamic reference used the feedforward control.

Analysis on the dynamic characteristics of RAC frame structures

  • The dynamic tests of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) are carried out, the rate-dependent mechanical models of RAC are proposed. The dynamic mechanical behaviors of RAC frame structure are investigated by adopting the numerical simulation method of the finite element. It is indicated that the lateral stiffness and the hysteresis loops of RAC frame structure obtained from the numerical simulation agree well with the test results, more so for the numerical simulation which is considered the strain rate effect than for the numerical simulation with strain rate excluded. The natural vibration frequency and the lateral stiffness increase with the increase of the strain rate. The dynamic model of the lateral stiffness is proposed, which is reasonably applied to describe the effect of the strain rate on the lateral stiffness of RAC frame structure. The effect of the strain rate on the structural deformation and capacity of RAC is analyzed. The analyses show that the inter-story drift decreases with the increase of the strain rate. However, with the increasing strain rate, the structural capacity increases. The dynamic models of the base shear coefficient and the overturning moment of RAC frame structure are developed. The dynamic models are important and can be used to evaluate the strength deterioration of RAC structure under dynamic loading.

  • An OHT(Over Head Transportation) vehicle is an example of the industrial monorail vehicle, and it is used in the automobile, semiconductor, LCD manufacturing industries. OHT vehicle is moved by main wheels and guide rollers. The major function of the main wheel is to support and drive the OHT vehicle. The roles of the guide roller is the inhibition of derailment and steering of the OHT vehicle. Since the required vehicle velocity becomes faster and the required load capacity is increased, the durability characteristics of the wheel and roller, which was made of urethane, need to be increased. So it is necessary to estimate the fatigue life cycle of the wheel and roller. In this study, OHT dynamic model was developed by using the multi body dynamic analysis program ADAMS. Wheel and roller are modeled by the 3-D surface contact module. Especially, motor cycle tire mechanics is used in the wheel contact model. The OHT dynamic model can analyze the dynamic characteristic of the OHT vehicle with various driving conditions. And the result was verified by a vehicle traveling test. As a result of this study, the developed model is expected to predict wheel dynamic load time history and makes a contribution to design of a new monorail vehicle.

  • Floating floor structure, which is mainly adopted for reducing interior noise of railway vehicle, is known that it is superior to single wall in respect of sound transmission loss. The dynamic characteristic of the support in the floating floor that is one of the important design variables in floating floor structure can change the sound and vibration insulation properties of it. From excitation test, the dynamic stiffness and loss factor of the support are evaluated. They are used as input parameter for analyzing the sound transmission loss of floating floor. Predicted transmission loss is compared with the prototype-car test results.

  • Proper pretest planning is a vital component of any successful vibration test on engineering structures. The most important issue in dynamic testing of many engineering structures is arriving at the number and optimal placement of sensors. The sensors must be placed on the structure in such a way that all the important dynamic behaviour of a structural system is captured during the course of the test with sufficient accuracy so that the information can be effectively utilised for structural parameter identification or health monitoring. Several optimal sensor placement (OSP) techniques are proposed in the literature and each of these methods have been evaluated with respect to a specific problem encountered in various engineering disciplines like aerospace, civil, mechanical engineering, etc. In the present work, we propose to perform a detailed characteristic evaluation of some selective popular OSP techniques with respect to their application to practical civil engineering problems. Numerical experiments carried out in the paper on various practical civil engineering structures indicate that effective independence (EFI) method is more consistent when compared to all other sensor placement techniques.

  • The demand of vacuum pump has been increased in the process of semi-conduct manufacturing, as a core component. The response of the system for vacuum pump performance test can be utilized to assess the system and to obtain the reliability of the apparatus for the test. The system consists of gas supply tank, pressure chamber, measurement chamber and transmission line. Transient analysis for compressible fluid has been conducted to evaluate the dynamic characteristic of the volume terminated transmission line. Numerical approach based on the method of characteristics is used for the analysis. The response is evaluated with the important parameters for the system: i.e., length and diameter of the line, volume of the terminal tank. Using the numerical results, pumping speeds are calculated and then compared to the experimental results.

  • Reinforced twice than width of foundation with SIC under steel piles drived in cohesion soil and in the coal-limestone which heavily fractured. To analyze behaviour characteristic of steel piles, load transfer test was performed to steel piles attached with strain gauges to axial direction. After it passed 49days, dynamic load test was performed to set-up effect of steel piles bearing capacity. The results of test were compared to each other. According to the results, as the skin friction of steel pile was on the same condition, end bearing capacity of steel piles established on SIC solid of cemented milk in cohesion soil was three times than steel piles established on SIG solid of cemented milk in heavily fractured coal- limestone. After piles were driven and passes 49days, in case of piles on SIG solid of comented milk in cohesion soil the increaes of allowable bearing capacity was 442.9% and allowable bearing capacity of piles on SIG solid of cemented milk in heavily fractured coal-limestone increased 22.4%.
