In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic wavelength assignment algorithm in distributed WDM (Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) networks without wavelength conversion. The algorithm tries to assign a locally-most-used wavelength distributedly on a fixed routing path. We first formulate our algorithm by using the concept of a sample space which consists of optical fibers connected to nodes on a routing path of a lightpath to be assigned a wavelength. In particular, we analyze the blocking performance mathematically as compared with that of the most-used (MU) wavelength assignment algorithm previously proposed for WDM networks under centralized control. We also obtain numerical results by simulation on the blocking performance of other centralized/distributed wavelength assignment algorithms as well as our algorithm using the M/M/c/c dynamic traffic model. Consequently, we show that analytical results match simulation results and that our algorithm is efficient in distributed WDM networks in terms of blocking performance, control traffic overhead and computation complexity.

In this paper, we address the problem of efficient routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) in multi-fiber wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks without wavelength translation, under dynamic traffic. We couple Dijkstra's shortest path algorithm with a suitable weight function which chooses optical paths based both on wavelength availability and multi-fiber segments. We compare our approach with other RWA schemes both for regular and irregular WDM multi-fiber network topologies in terms of blocking probability and overall link utilization.
Most wavelength assignment algorithms assume that every node has infinite ADMs and I/O blocking is excluded. Furthermore wavelengths continue to occur intermittently in the network using existing algorithms. This can result in increased link blocking under dynamic traffic circumstances. In audition, it can create time-complexity problems such as O(W $N^3$) in the worst case scenario. In this paper, we propose a new wavelength assignment algorithm which has time-complexity of O(W $N^2$) and considers both I/O and link blocking. The basic idea is to maximize the number of links where wavelengths will be assigned continuously after present assignment. As a result, the number of intermittent wavelengths is minimized, and blocking probabilities are decreased.

In this paper, we address how to provide absolute differentiated services for optical burst switching (OBS) networks based on dynamic wavelength assignment. Unlike existing quality of service (QoS), such as buffer-based and offset-time based scheme, our proposed dynamicvirtual lambda partitioning (DVLP) scheme does not mandate any buffer or extra offset time, but can achieve absolute service differentiation between classes. This new DVLP scheme shares wavelength resources based on several different priority of classes in an efficient and QoS guaranteed manner. The performance results show that the proposed scheme effectively guarantees a target blocking probability of each traffic classes both in Poisson and Self-similar traffic environment.
In multifiber all-optical networks, optical amplifiers are used for amplifying multiple optical signals with different wavelengths in fibers. An optical amplifier operates when any of lightpaths passes through it. Therefore, it should simultaneously amplify as many lightpaths as possible for efficiently utilizing its power. This paper proposes a dynamic lightpath establishment scheme considering the use efficiency of the optical amplifiers and the depletion of the wavelength resources in multifiber all-optical networks. The proposed scheme provides a routing and wavelength assignment strategy that reduces both the power consumption of the optical amplifiers and the blocking probability of the lightpath establishment. Through simulation experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
The large potential bandwidth available in wavelength-division multiplexed optical networks makes this technology of crucial importance for satisfying the ever increasing capacity requirements of the next-generation Internet. In this scenario, the routing and wavelength assignment(RWA) problem that concerns determining the optical paths and wavelengths to be used for connection establishment in a wavelength-routed network, is still one of the most important open issues. In this paper we propose a new online dynamic grooming-capable RWA heuristic scheme working on wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) networks as a multistage selection process. The proposed algorithm is transparent with respect to the presence of wavelength converters, achieves very low connection rejection ratios with minimal computational complexity and is appropriate for the modern multilayer optical circuit and wavelength switched networks with sparse wavelength conversion capability.
We propose a dynamic wavelength assignment algorithm for online RWA problem in WDM networks with wavelength conversion. With our algorithm, for a given network condition, the following results have been proven mathematically: (1) the probability to find the set of wavelengths for a requested connection is equal or better than any other previously proposed algorithms, (2) our algorithm minimizes the usage of converters by chaining the minimum number of the longest wavelength continuous segments, leaving more converters available for future requests and (3) the complexity of our algorithm is reasonable, which is also another advantage of our algorithm.

To reduce delay for high priority packets in the ring-based EPON, the EPON packet classifier groups services as their priorities and frames for services are dynamically framed as their priorities. Since dynamic framing for a packet priority dynamically changes assignment spaces in the maximum framing packet size as network traffics, it makes services with high priority to improve quality of services with relative low threshold time for transmitting.

We propose a new approach to accommodate bidirectional asymmetric traffic demands as well as unexpected dynamic internet traffic variation in the WDM mesh network by using optical networking technologies. In the proposed scheme, an intermediate node determines the optical path based on the switching statistics of IP router of the node which characterizes the Internet traffic variation, which in effect provides a dynamic and distributed traffic control over the network. It is expected to reduce the efficiency deterioration of RWA(Routing and Wavelength Assignment) due to the real-time variation of Internet traffic so that expandability and flexibility of the network can be enhanced. In this paper, we describe a methodology for traffic behavior analysis at a node, and the decision policy of the establishment/release of optical path. In addition, we evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme through the computer simulations.

Recently, the interest in optical network with multifiber link is continuing to rise since the network traffic has been growing exponentially. However, growing traffic in network leads to increasing the energy consumption of the network equipment. In this paper, we propose a dynamic routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) algorithm based on V-like cost function and layered graph to improve energy efficiency in IP over WDM network with multifiber link. The V-like cost function is used to decide the fiber cost according to the number of used wavelengths. The layered graph with multifiber link is used to select the energy efficient route and wavelength. The proposed RWA algorithm is compared and analyzed with conventional algorithm in view of average power consumption and blocking probability through OPNET modeler.
