  • Vacuum interrupters in order to be used in various switch-gear components such as circuit breakers, distribution switches, contactors, etc. spread the arc uniformly over the surface of the contacts. The electrodes of vacuum interrupters are made of sinter-forged Cu-Cr materials for good electrical and mechanical characteristics. Since the closing velocity is 1-2m/s and impact deformation of the electrode depends on the strain rate at that velocity, the dynamic behavior of the sinter-forged Cu-Cr is a key to investigate the impact characteristics of the electrodes. The dynamic response of the material at the high strain rate is obtained from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test using disc-type specimens. Experimental results from both quasi-static and dynamic compressive tests are Interpolated to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulation of the dynamic behavior of the electrodes. The impact characteristics of a vacuum interrupter are investigated with computer simulations by changing the value of five parameters such as the initial velocity of a movable electrode, the added mass of a movable electrode, the wipe spring constant, initial offset of a wipe spring and the virtual fixed spring constant.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of rubber as an engine mount of walking-type cultivators and to determine its optimal spring constant and damping coefficient using a dynamic simulation of the engine mount system. Four different types of rubber mounts were tested to determine their spring constants and damping coefficients, and the best type was selected for the isolation of the engine vibrations transmitted to the handle. The total vibration levels transmitted to the handle when the rubber mounts weren't installed were 17.52 $m/s^2$. The total vibration levels transmitted to the handle when the rubber mounts were installed were 10.69 $m/s^2$ for Stripe 1, 11.33$m/s^2$ for Stripe 2, 10.92$m/s^2$ for Stripe 3 and 14.19$m/s^2$ for Hive, respectively, resulting in an average of $30\%$ reduction when compared with that without the engine mount. A dynamic model of the cultivator's engine-mount system and its simulation program were developed and verified. A method was proposed to determine the optimal spring constant and damping coefficient of the engine-mount system. It was found from the simulation that a spring constant of 4,100 kN/m and the largest damping coefficient were the most effective for the vibration isolation.

  • A dynamic force balance model is proposed in this work as an extension of the previous static force balance model to predict metal transfer in arc welding. Dynamics of a pendant drop is modeled as the second order system, which consists of the mass, spring and damper. The spring constant of a spherical drop at equilibrium is derived in the closed-form equation, and the inertia force caused by drop vibration is included in the drop detaching condition. While the inertia force is small in the low current range, it becomes larger than the gravitational force with current increase. The inertia force reaches half of the electromagnetic force at transition current, and has considerable effects on drop detachment. The proposed dynamic force balance model predicts the detaching drop size more accurately than the static force balance model.

  • Corrugation of railway track can be caused by the various dynamic behavior of travelling wheels and track. In this paper, the coupled vibrations of travelling wheel and railway track are analyzed as the cause of corrugations. To analyze the coupled vibrations, the track supported by the sleepers and the traveling wheel are identified to the elastically supported infinite beam and the spring-mass system which runs at constant speed. The Hertzian contact spring is considered betwen the infinite beam and spring-mass system. The dynamic responses of elastically supported infinite beam and spring-mass system are calculated. The cause and development of rail corrugation are discussed in the view point of contact force fluctuation affected by the elastic supports and the corrugated surface profile of the track. By the obtained results, the possibilities of resonance are checked between the excitation by the corrugated surface profile and the natural frequency of contact spring-moving mass system. It may be thought to a development of railway corrugation.

  • In a vacuum circuit breaker mechanism, a spring-actuated linkage system is used to satisfy the desired opening and closing characteristics of electric contacts. Because the opening dynamics of electric contacts is determined by such a linkage system, the stiffness, free length and attachment points of a spring become the important design parameters. In this paper, based on the energy conservation that the total system energy is constant throughout the operating range of a mechanism, a systematic design procedure of determining the spring design parameters is presented. The proposed procedure is applied to the design of an opening spring for satisfying the specified opening characteristics.

  • This Paper deals with the design of Moving Magnet type Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MM-LOA) using spring damper based on the design procedure and the characteristic analysis. MM-LOA is applied to variable load such as vaccum pump and compressor, The structure of piston type is selected to reduce a noise. MM-LOA has over-displacement in starting state because of the low inertia of mover To improve the starting characteristic, spring damper is used. The optimum spring constant of spring damper is detected and in consideration of spring damper, MM-LOA redesigned. The parameter is calculated by Finite Element Method(FEM). For the dynamic characteristic analysis, time differential method composed of voltage and kinetic equation is used. The propriety of the improved model is verified through the experimental results.

  • The primary objective of this study is to truly understand reaction force be due to engine exciting force. Exciting forces of the engine apply a source of the vehicle NVH(Noise, Vibration, Harshness). To understand reaction force was applied MSC.Nastran software. Analyzed frequency response analysis of powertrain mount system. First, engine exciting force was applied field function. Also nonlinear characteristics was applied field function : such as dynamic spring constant and loss factor. And nonlinear characteristics was applied CBUSH. Generally characteristics of rubber mount is constant frequency. But characteristics of hydraulic mount depend to frequency. Therefore nonlinear characteristics was applied. Powertrain mounting system be influenced by powertrain specification, mount position, mount angle and mount characteristics etc. In this study, we was analyzed effects of powertrain mounting system. And we was varied dynamics spring constant and loss factor of mounts.

  • In this paper, a new technique which models the joints characteristics through reduction of DOFs of structures with joints using component mode synthesis (CMS) method is proposed. Bolt joints are modeled by mass-spring systems. Also generalized mass and stiffness matrices for this models are introduced. Because bolt joints have influence on eigenvalues of structures, exact eigenvalues from modal test are used. The results show that the behaviors of structures with bolt joints depend to a large extent on the translational DOFs and not on rotational DOFs of mass and stiffness matrices of bolts. Furthermore it is confirmed that lumped mass-spring systems as models of bolt joints are effective models considering the facts that joint characteristics converged to constant values in some iterations and eignevalues from proposed method are in good agreement with ones from modal test.

  • We propose a new multiscale Galerkin method based on interpolation wavelets for two-dimensional Poisson's and plane elasticity problems. The major contributions of the present work are: 1) full multiresolution numerical analysis is carried out, 2) general boundaries are handled by a fictitious domain method without using a penalty term or the Lagrange multiplier, 3) no special integration rule is necessary unlike in the (bi-)orthogonal wavelet-based methods, and 4) an efficient adaptive scheme is easy to incorporate. Several benchmark-type problems are considered to show the effectiveness and the potentials of the present approach. is 1-2m/s and impact deformation of the electrode depends on the strain rate at that velocity, the dynamic behavior of the sinter-forged Cu-Cr is a key to investigate the impact characteristics of the electrodes. • Air springs are now widely used in bus or truck suspensions due to their advantages over conventional metal spring as coil or leaf springs. Air springs have soft spring rates, which give better ride quality, and additional leveling system provides constant ride height and maintains almost same vertical natural frequencies. A mathematical model of an air spring suspension system with height control system is constructed and dynamic responses of the suspension system are investigated in the light of leveling valve motion characteristic, vertical motion natural frequency. Also, using a full vehicle model, handling characteristics of an air spring suspension is studied and the results are compared with real test results, which shows good agreements.
