A new mechanical model for predicting the vibration of a pipe pile embedded in longitudinally layered visco-elastic media with radial inhomogeneity is proposed by extending Novak's plain-strain model and complex stiffness method to consider viscous-type damping. The analytical solutions for the dynamic impedance, the velocity admittance and the reflected signal of wave velocity at the pile head are also derived and subsequently verified by comparison with existing solutions. An extensive parametric analysis is further performed to examine the effects of shear modulus, viscous damping coefficient, coefficient of disturbance degree, weakening or strengthening range of surrounding soil and longitudinal soft or hard interbedded layer on the velocity admittance and the reflected signal of wave velocity at the pile head. It is demonstrated that the proposed model and the obtained solutions provide extensive possibilities for practical application compared with previous related studies.

Based on the theory of porous media, an interaction system of a floating pile and a saturated soil in cylindrical coordinates subjected to vertical harmonic load is presented in this paper. The surrounding soil is separated into two distinct layers. The upper soil layer above the level of pile base is described as a saturated viscoelastic medium and the lower soil layer is idealized as equivalent spring-dashpot elements with complex stiffness. Considering the cylindrically symmetry and the pile-soil compatibility condition of the interaction system, a frequency-domain analytical solution for dynamic impedance of the floating pile embedded in saturated viscoelastic soil is also derived, and reduced to verify it with existing solutions. An extensive parametric analysis has been conducted to reveal the effects of the impedance of the lower soil base, the interaction coefficient and the damping coefficient of the saturated viscoelastic soil layer on the vertical vibration of the pile-soil interaction system. It is shown that the vertical dynamic impedance of the floating pile significantly depends on the real stiffness of the impedance of the lower soil base, but is less sensitive to its dynamic damping variation; the behavior of the pile in poro-visco-elastic soils is totally different with that in single-phase elastic soils due to the existence of pore liquid; the effect of the interaction coefficient of solid and liquid on the pile-soil system is limited.
Hydraulic mounts show strong1y frequency-dependent stiffness and damping characteristics in low frequency range, which result from so called inertia track dynamics. A lumped mass has been incorporated in several mechanical models of the literature to take the inertia effect of the fluid in the track into consideration. Although complex s%illness by the mechanical model showed good agreements with the measured values, there exists a critical pitfall. In this paper, the shortcomings of mechanical models with lumped mass for hydraulic founts are clearly identified by illustrating actual measurements of the stiffness parameters for a hydraulic mount. It is conclusively discussed that the inertia effect of the fluid flow through the circular track is significant but latent. As an alternative to the mechanical model, a hydraulic model is claimed to be used for further dynamic analysis of engine/mount system or whole car system.

Complex dynamic systems are composed of several subsystems. Each subsystems affect the dynamics of other subsystems since they are connected to each other in the whole system. Theoretically, we can derive the exact mass and stiffness matrix of a system if we have the natural frequencies and mode shapes of that system. In real situation, the modal parameters for the higher modes are not available and the number of degree of freedom concerned are not so high. This paper shows a simple method to derive the mass and stiffness matrix of a system considering the connecting points of subsystems. Since the accuracy of reconstructed structure depends on the selection of node and mode, the rule for selection of node and mode are derived from the numerical examples.

Recently it is increased by degrees to produce complex and large lattice structures such as bridge, tower, crane, and space structures. In general, in order to analyse these structures we have used finite element method(FEM). In this method, however, it is necessary to use a large amount of computer memory and to take long computation time. For overcoming this problem, the Authors have developed the transfer dynamic stiffness coefficient method(TDSCM) which consists on the concept of the substructure synthesis method and transfer influence coefficient method. In this paper, the new free vibration analysis method for large type lattice structure is formulated by the TDSCM. And the results obtained by TDSCM are compared with those obtained by FEM, transfer matrix method and experiment. And it is confirmed for TDSCM to be the numerical high accuracy and high speed structure analysis method.
This paper discusses a model order reduction for large order rotor dynamics systems results from the finite element discretization. Typical rotor systems consist of a rotor, built-on parts, and a support system, and require prudent consideration in their dynamic analysis models because they include unsymmetric stiffness, localized nonproportional damping and frequency dependent gyroscopic effects. When the finite element model has a very large number of degrees of freedom because of complex geometry, repeated dynamic analyses to investigate the critical speeds, stability, and unbalanced response are computationally very expensive to finish within a practical design cycle. In this paper, the Krylov-based model order reduction via moment matching significantly speeds up the dynamic analyses necessary to check eigenvalues and critical speeds of a Nelson-Vaugh rotor system. With this approach the dynamic simulation is efficiently repeated via a reduced system by changing a running rotational speed because it can be preserved as a parameter in the process of model reduction. The Campbell diagram by the reduced system shows very good agreement with that of the original system. A 3-D finite element model of the Nelson-Vaugh rotor system is taken as a numerical example to demonstrate the advantages of this model reduction for rotor dynamic simulation.
The major objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic behavior evaluation of split PC sleepers for railway turnout by the field test. In railway engineering, a turnout is necessary to allow a vehicle to move from one track to another. So, turnout is required very complex railway technologies such as lolling stock, track. In reference to conventional line speed-up and improvement railway, accurate assembly of turnout affects travel ins qualify of turnout area and running safety. Because of heavy weight and a large volume of the long sleeper used to turnout and car limit, transport and the prerequisite for trouble-free transport of the factory pre-assembled major turnout components is achieved through division of long sleepers. The one of the advantages for using a split sleeper is to reduce the dynamic vibration according to the information of developed nations. Therefore, we investigate the characteristic of dynamic behaviors of split sleepers which are adopted for the first time to improve performance of turnout From the field test results of the split sleeper, it is evaluated that the modification of weight, material and stiffness compared with wood sleeper is very effective for the ballast safety. However, the decrease in vibration of split sleeper was not found out.
In the previous study, an improved QRD (QR Decomposition)-ILS(Iterative Least-Squares) method is proposed to estimate the structural parameters at the element level using response data alone without using any information of excitation measurements for the assessment of local damages and deterioration in complex and large structural systems. But for a complex and large structural system, where response measurement at every dynamic degree of freedom(DDOF) is not possible, the absence of some observation points of responses and its effect on the proposed SI method must be studied In the paper, a QRD-ILS technique that utilizes the known intact stiffness information estimated based on the visual inspection, field measurements and/or NDT tests is proposed to identify local damages of fracture critical members using measured responses only at limited DDOFs. A numerical example is used to illustrate the application of this technique. The results indicate that the proposed SI technique is very simple but efficient, since no input information are required with only limited observations.
