The purpose of the work is to improve comfort of a car seat, especially dynamic comfort which affects driver's discomfort during the long time driving. Definition of dynamic comfort was made before the investigation of which parameter affects seat comfort. In order to optimize design parameters so as to maximize seat comfort as well as to know the cause of discomfort, benchmarking on a target vehicle and competitive vehicles was performed, which showed both the vibration transmission characteristics and the compression set due to dynamic loading should be reduced. As a solution ball rebounds was increased by about 10% of the original foam, which showed reduction of S.E.A.T. value by 10% and of compression set by 60%.

In general, deflection limit criteria of bridge design specifications would have been considered based on the static serviceability and structural stability. Dynamic serviceability induced from bridge vibration, as a comfort limit, actually has not been included in the criteria. Thus, it is necessary for dynamic serviceability to be considered in bridge vibration problems and for comfort limit on vibration to be needed for evaluating dynamic serviceability of bridges. In this paper, comfort limits of bridge structures considering the time duration exposed by vibration were examined with frequency and time dependent comfort limits, and they were evaluated by using the vibration signals measured from the existing bridges. Therefore, it is resulted that the time-dependent comfort limit considering the duration of vibration is an efficient estimate for evaluating dynamic serviceability of bridges.

This study proposes an innovative design guideline to assist the evaluation and improvement of the dynamic comfort of vehicle seating. The existing evaluation method for the comfort of vehicle seating was investigated to broach problems in evaluation. It was found that the currently existing evaluation method employs the resonance frequency of the vibration system composed of the seat and the human body and the maximum vibration transmissibility. This study proposes a design guideline aimed at the enhancement of vibration transmission characteristics above the resonance range, particularly within the range of 10-18 Hz. In order to meet this guideline, a seat was constructed out of foam having a low damping coefficient. It was then installed in a vehicle for a driving test. The driving test confirmed the improvement of the dynamic comfort of the seat. The result of evaluation of the improved seat using the SEAT index, an industry standard widely used to evaluate the dynamic comfort of a seat considering the perceptivity characteristics of the human body, showed that the perceptive vibration transmission had reduced by more than $11\%$. The effect of the modification of seat foam was also verified through a subjective assessment of dynamic comfort of the seats.

The dynamic model was developed to analyze vibration acceleration and ride comfort during the operation of rubber-tired light rail vehicles. The ride comfort for standing passengers was analyzed in accordance with ISO 2631-1, UIC 513R, and CEN Draft prENV 12299 using this model. The result was applied to the detail design of Korean-standard, rubber-tired light rail vehicles, and the detail specifications related to ride comfort was determined based on this result. The ride comfort test was performed along the test track by using 2 car-train, and its result was compared with that of the ride comfort analysis, verifying the validity of the developed dynamic model. It was also verified whether or not the developed Korean-standardized, rubber-tired light rail vehicle met specified target specifications on ride comfort.

Various dynamic models of seated posture human body have been developed because the importance about the ride comfort assessment of vehicles is highly emphasized from day to day. The dynamic models of human body make possible the simulation of ride comfort assessment by applied to the vehicle dynamic model. Recently, the importance of ride comfort is also regarded to working vehicles such as excavators and the research of the ride comfort assessment for working vehicle is required. Only vertical vibration dominantly occurs on the seat of the private car driving with constant velocity. In contrast, vertical/fore-and-aft/pitch vibration seriously occurs on the seat of the working excavator. So, the dynamic models of seated human body applied to working vehicles should describe the dynamic characteristics for vertical/fore-and-aft/pitch direction. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of seated human body are represented as apparent inertia matrix. The apparent inertia matrix is obtained by the vertical/fore-and-aft/pitch excitation of seated human body. 6 resonance frequencies are observed in apparent inertia matrix. This result can be applied to develop the dynamic model for seated posture human body.
As well as the vibration comfort in passenger coaches largely affects passengers, it is one of the most important factors that passengers would betray their dissatisfactions among various elements, such as noise, lighting, couches, seat-arrangement, ventilation, temperature, odor, cleanliness, etc., consisting of comfort in passenger coaches. The wheel-tread figuration in the dynamic behavior of trainsets significantly affects the vibration comfort such as the running safety and the running stability. In this study, therefore, I will examine the dynamic characteristic in passenger coaches in accordance with the variation of wheel-tread figuration during the high-speed traveling with the target of trainsets (KT23 bogie), which are operated as the passenger coache in Korea, and any variation that will exert baneful influence on the vibration comfort accordingly.

High-speed railway bridges carry a risk of dynamic response amplification due to resonance caused by train loads, and running safety and riding comfort must therefore be reviewed through dynamic analysis in accordance with design codes. The running safety and ride comfort calculation procedure, however, is time consuming and expensive because dynamic analyses must be performed for every 10 km/h interval up to 110% of the design speed, including the critical speed for each train type. In this paper, a deep-learning-based prediction system that can predict the running safety and ride comfort in advance is proposed. The system does not use dynamic analysis but employs a deep learning algorithm. The proposed system is based on a neural network trained on the dynamic analysis results of each train and speed of the railway bridge and can predict the running safety and ride comfort according to input parameters such as train speed and bridge characteristics. To confirm the performance of the proposed system, running safety and riding comfort are predicted for a single span, straight simple beam bridge. Our results confirm that the deck vertical displacement and deck vertical acceleration for calculating running safety and riding comfort can be predicted with high accuracy.

In general, deflection limit criteria of bridge design specifications have been considered based on static serviceability and structural stability. Dynamic serviceability induced from bridge vibration actually has not been included in the criteria. Thus, it is necessary for comfort limit to be considered in order to check dynamic serviceability on bridge vibration. In this study, the comfort limit of bridge structures based on the RMQ and VDV considering the signal fluctuation effectively and the time duration exposed has been constructed. The comfort limit developed in time domain was verified by using vibration signals directly measured from the existing bridges. Comparing the developed comfort limit with the conventional ones defined in frequency domain, it is shown that the comfort limit developed in time domain would be more feasible for evaluating quantitatively the serviceability due to bridge vibration. Using the Bridge-train interaction analysis program, dynamic response of the bridge by the stiffness change were obtained for several railway bridges. And, a stiffness limit satisfying the bridge vibration serviceability was estimated by compared with comport limit. From the results, a new deflection limit on bridge structures satisfying the vibration serviceability could be proposed by comparing with the conventional deflection limit criteria.
