Recently, lots of damages have been lost because large magnitude earthquakes were occurred in the world. It has been increased the number of earthquakes in Korea. It needs improvement required for the repair of deteriorated reservoirs, reinforcement and raised reservoir coping with climate change and earthquake. This study aims to investigate the seismic behavior of deterioration reservoir levee using dynamic centrifugal model test. Therefore, two case tests in centrifugal field of 60 g, the result has provided the influence on the acceleration response, displacement, settlement and the pore water pressure of the reservoir with earthquakes. From the results larger displacement and acceleration response at the front side of reservoir embankment with poor-fabricated core in seismic condition may degrade overall stability. Reasonable reinforcement method of the raised reservoir embankment is required for ensuring long-term stability on earthquake.
This study has been conducted to design the high efficiency centrifugal compressor for a HFC-134a. The 2-stage centrifugal compressor consists of inlet guide vanes, two impellers with splitters, a deswirler, a vaneless diffuser and a volute casing. We have designed the high efficiency centrifugal compressor by applying the repeated design procedure including a meanline design, a 3D geometry generation of 1st and 2nd impellers etc. Also, a fluid dynamic calculation of impellers and deswirler have been conducting using a commercial code STAR-CD.
In order to verify the reliability of numerical site response analysis program, both soil free-field and base rock input motions should be provided. Beside the field earthquake motion records, the most effective testing method for obtaining the above motions is the dynamic geotechnical centrifuge test. However, need is to verify if the motion recorded at the base of the soil model container in the centrifuge facility is the true base rock input motion or not. In this paper, the appropriate input motion measurement method for the verification of seismic response analysis is examined by dynamic geotechnical centrifuge test and using three-dimensional finite difference analysis results. From the results, it appears that the ESB (equivalent shear beam) model container distorts downward the propagating wave with larger magnitude of centrifugal acceleration and base rock input motion. Thus, the distortion makes the measurement of the base rock outcrop motion difficult which is essential for extracting the base rock incident motion. However, the base rock outcrop motion generated by using deconvolution method is free from the distortion effect of centrifugal acceleration.
In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element model is established to investigate the structural dynamic characteristics of rotor blade using a finite element analysis. Six natural frequencies and mode shapes are calculated by computer simulation. The first three flapping modal frequencies, the first two lead-lag modal frequencies, and the first feathering modal frequency are validated through comparison with the modal test results of the fixed rotor blade. The computer simulation results are found in good agreement with experimentally measured natural frequencies. The important results are obtained as follows: (1) Natural frequencies are changed due to the variation of rotational speed and fiber angle of rotor blade, (2) Weak coupling between flapping mode shape and lead-lag mode shape are detected, (3) Centrifugal force has more effect on flapping modal frequency than lead-lag modal frequency.
The connecting rod big-end bearing is one of the most heavily loaded components of the lubrication system of high-speed combustion engines. The supply oil flow has to pass to the main bearing and the rotating crankshaft before entering the connecting rod bearing. It is common knowledge that the centrifugal forces due to the crankshaft rotation influence the oil flow to connecting rod bearing through the oil supply bore, especially, when the oil supply system to the connecting rod bearing has a 180$^{\circ}$circumferential groove via a single drilling in the crankshaft. In this case, it should be confirmed that the groove oil pressure in the main bearing is sufficient to overcome these centrifugal forces. For the purpose, the dynamic oil pressure before entering oil supply bore to the connecting rod bearing was measured instead of averaged oil pressure in main gallery. Experimental test results show that the dynamic oil pressure in the oil groove was more useful than that of main gallery. And it was also found that the oil pressure fluctuation in the groove was sensitively affected by the reduction of the main bearing clearance.
The fresh water and sea water in present ships is used as cooling water for marine engine. Therefore, corrosion damage in seawater system is frequently occurred. In particular, in the impeller of pump, the performance and material span due to the corrosion and cavitation erosion has adverse effects. Most of the pump impellers in vessels are used Cu-Al alloy. Cu-Al alloy which having the excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance is widely used in marine environments. However, despite the excellent characteristics, the periodic replacement parts due to the cavitation damage in seawater is vulnerable to economic viewpoint. In this study, Cu-Al alloy used with impeller for centrifugal pump were conducted various experiments to evaluate its characteristics in seawater and fresh water solutions. As an electrochemical result, the dynamic conditions that exposed to the cavitation environment presented high corrosion current density with collapse of the cavity compared with the static conditions. Cavitation test results, the weightloss and weightloss rate in fresh water are observed more than those of seawater.
This paper describes the PI controller design based on a practical transfer function model for centrifugal water chillers. The rotational speed of a compressor and the opening angle of an electronic expansion valve were simultaneously regulated as manipulated variables to maintain temperature reference and to ensure high efficiency of the chiller. The COP according to the change in each variable was investigated by performing some static experiments, and it was reflected in the PI controller design to accomplish the high efficiency control. Especially, the practical transfer function model of the chiller was built based on the dynamic experimental data considering the strong inherent non-linearity and complexity of the chiller system. The validity of the designed PI controller was proven by some experimental results using the test facility and the results were also compared to the conventional evaporating pressure control results.
