  • This study was carried out to investigate dyeing characteristics of CDP(cation dyeable polyester)/silk knitted fabrics with disperse type cation dyes/acid dyes by one bath dyeing method in comparison with two bath dyeing method in the interests for rationalization of the dyeing process. The apparent color depth(K/S) of the disperse type cation dyes with CDP and that of acid dyes with silk decreased slowly with increasing pH values of dyebath with the exception of sharp decrease at alkali region for CDP. The contamination behavior of CDP by the acid dyes and that of silk by the disperse type cation dyes decreased with progressing of dyeing. The migration ratio(%) of the disperse type cation dyes with CDP is low compared with that of acid dyes with silk. The sediment in mixed dying solution of disperse type cation dyes and acid dyes remarkably less compared with that of regular type cation dyes and acid dyes at $100^{\circ}C$ regardless applying of preventer agent of precipitation. When CDP/silk knitted fabrics was dyed with by with mixtures of disperse type cation dyes/acid dyes one bath or two bath dyeing method, the characteristic of reflectance spectra of CDP components were greatly influenced by disperse type cation dyes and that of silk components by acid dyes. It was confirmed that K/S values of each components of CDP/silk knitted fabrics dyed by one bath dyeing method decreased slightly compared with two bath dyeing method.

  • A series of polymeric dyes wre synthesized by free radical addition polymerication of monomeric dyes. The 2-amino-5-mrecapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole was diazotized and coupled with various N-arlmaleimides to give monomeric dyes. All the polymeric dyes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, visible absorption spectroscopy, viscometry. and thermogravimetric analysis. Color and dyeing properties of the polymeric dyes were discussed by comparing them with those of the corresponding monomeric dyes. The dyeing performance of these dyes was assessed on nylon fiber. These dyes were found to give various color shades with good to very good depth and levelness on the fiber. The dyeing of the monomeric dyes showed moderate fastness to light and good to excellent fastness properties. The dyebath exhaustion and fixation on nylon fiber has been found to be good.

  • Cationic dyeable polyester(CDP) was produced through melt blending of cationic chips having $2mol\%$ of sodium salt of dimethyl ester of 5-sulfoisophthalic acid(DMS salt) and normal polyester chips in different proportions to obtain yarns having varying amount of comonomer in the fiber. The modified polyesters showed increased moisture regain, decreased viscosity, lower softening point and improved antistatic characteristics, according to the amount of modifier. In dyeing at $100^{\circ}C$ the dyeing rate of cationic dyes with CDP fiber increased slowly than that of disperse dyes. In dyeing at $120^{\circ}C$ cationic dyes reached to equilibrium at 30min and disperse dyes at 10min. Cationic dyes in dyeing of CDP fabric have a better wash fastness compared with disperse dyes, also rubbing fastness of cationic dyes is better than that of disperse dyes. The light fastness of CDP fabric for cationic and disperse dyes is not good. The fastness of 75d/36f CDP fabric is higher than 75d/72f fabric. Solvent wicking fastness of CDP with cationic dyes is better than that of disperse dyes.

  • In dyeing PET/Spandex blends with disperse dyes, many disperse dyes are absorbed more readily into Spandex than PET. Inorganic/organic(I/O) values can characterize the affinity of disperse dyes for Spandex and PET fibers. As I/O values of disperse dyes approach that of Spandex, the dye uptake in Spandex increases. On the contrary, the disperse dyes of higher I/O values are absorbed more into PET than Spandex. The dye uptake in PET increases with increasing I/O values of disperse dyes. As I/O values of disperse dyes increase, the rate of dyeing become slower in the dyeing of PET/Spandex blends. Hence, the affinity and the compatibility of disperse dyes in PET/Spandex blends dyeing can be evaluated with I/O value.

  • It is difficult to dye nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics by one-bath one-step dyeing method, because acid dyes and reactive dyes require acidic dyebath for adsorption and alkaline dyebath for fixation respectively. In order to overcome the disadvantage of the conventional two bath two step dyeing method of nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabric, it was pretreated with cationizing agent containing chlorohydrine group in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The pretreated nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics produced cationized fabrics that could be dyed with acid dyes and reactive dyes under neutral condition. This study was carried out to investigate dyeing possibilities, surface reflectance spectra and color characteristics of cationized nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics with acid dyes and reactive dyes in a non-electrolytic and neutral dyebath by one bath one step dyeing method.

  • A series of new metallized direct dyes based on benzidine congeners, 2,2'-dimethyl-5,5'-dipropoxybenzidine and 5,5'-dipropoxybenzidine, were evaluated for mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98 and TA 100. All of the dyes examined were judged to be non-mutagenic with and without metabolic activation while toxicity was seen in some dyes at high doses. The study also suggested that the standard Salmonella mutagenicity plate-incorporated assay was an excellent method for evaluation of dyes for mutagenicity.

  • The present paper focuses on the application of commercial acid dyes and wool reactive dyes to casein protein fabric. Nine acid dyes and six wool reactive dyes were compared their dyeing properties as well as color fastness. The exhaustion yields were higher than 80 % which dramatically increased at pH 3. Excellent wash fastness was obtained with metal-complex acid and wool reactive dyes. Both light and rubbing fastness were overall good, but perspiration fastness was comparatively poor.

  • Sulfadiazine and silver sulfadiazine are well-known bactericidal agent routinely used clinical settings. Antimicrobial acid dyes were synthesized by introducing sulfadiazine or silver sulfadiazine and applied on nylon fabric. The Chemical Structure of the Synthesized dyes was identified by HPLC-mass. The dyeability of synthesized acid dyes for nylon fabric was similar to commercial acid dyes. Resistance to washing, rubbing and lightfastness were good. Nylon fabrics dyed with synthesized acid dyes had good antimicrobial properties. Durable antimicrobial properties after 20 times washing have shown good result that reduction ratio of colonies, is 99.9 %. Mixed dyeing were carried out using commercial acid dyes(leveling type) and synthesized dyes. The mixed dyeings have also shown good antimicrobial properties.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the dyes solubility of dry cleaning solvents among the current domestic products. The dyes were experimented in following way; 1) The flow rate of dyes by paper chromatography method. 2) The color difference & the absorbance of solvents between the dyed fabrics before and after dry cleaning. From the experiment, following results were obtained. 1. In paper chromatography methods, the flow rate of dyes in the disperse dyes was bigger while flow was not shown in the direct dyes & acid dyes. 2. The more the number of times on dry cleaning in dyed fabrics was, the higher the absorbance of solvents was shown. The results were showed following order, PerchloroethyleneHydrocarbon> Fluorocabon. 3. The color difference between before & after dry cleaning on dyed fabrics showed bigger in disperse dyes.
