  • This paper presents a new ZVS-PWM high frequency inverter. The ZVS operation is achieved in the whole load range by using a simple auxiliary reverse blocking switch in parallel with series resonant capacitor. The operating principle and the operating characteristics of the new high frequency circuit treated here are illustrated and evaluated on the basis of simulation results. It was examined that the complete soft switching operation can be achieved even for low power setting ranges by introducing the high frequency dual duty cycle control scheme. In the proposed high frequency inverter treated here, the dual mode pulse modulation control strategy of the asymmetrical PWM in the higher power setting ranges and the lower power setting ones, the output power of this high frequency inverter could introduce in order to extend soft switching operation ranges. Dual duty cycle is used to provide a wide range of output power regulation that is important in many high frequency inverter applications. It is more suitable for induction heating applications the operation and control principle of the proposed high frequency inverter are described and verified through simulated results.

  • An advanced direct torque control (DTC) with pulse width modulation (PWM) method is presented in this paper. The duty ratio calculation of the selected voltage vector is based on the voltage functions of the selected voltage vector according to the sector angle. The proposed DTC uses a conventional DTC scheme with six sector divisions and switching rules. However, the winding voltages are supplied by the PWM approach. Furthermore, the duty ratio of the switching voltage vector is determined by the flux, torque error, and motor speed. The base voltage that shall determine the duty ratio can be calculated by approximate voltage functions according to the voltage angle. For the calculation of base voltages, second-order quadratic functions are used to express the output voltage of the selected voltage vector according to voltage angle. The coefficients for the second-order quadratic functions are selected by the voltage vector, which is determined by the switching rules of the DTC. In addition, the voltage functions are calculated by the coefficients and voltage angle between the voltage vector and rotor position. The switching voltages from the calculated duty ratio can supply the proper torque and flux to reduce the ripple and error. The proposed control scheme is verified through practical experimental comparisons.

  • This paper presents comparative experimental results of PI sliding mode control and PI control for a heavy duty robot which can handle an object of 600kg, The gains of the PI control was determined by TAE(Trial and Error) method. This paper presents a novel approach for the decoupling of the states cross-coupling using sliding mode control. The sliding mode control methode is based on the error between reference speeds and the actual speed. The proposed method has the advantages of PI control performance and the sliding mode control robustness. Its first step is to design PI controller, then the sliding mode control input term is added to it. This makes actual implementation of the controller easier. The robot and motion controllers were designed and made by author. The good control performance of the heavy duty robot was obtained by using simple algorithm. This means that the robot was designed very well in control respect.

  • A dc-dc converter which transfers l2-48W of power(regulated output voltage 24V) across a large, variable air gap(1-2cm) has been designed. This converter employs double resonance to compensate the large leakage inductance of the primary and secondary of the transcutaneous transformer. To maximize the effect of resonance, a constant frequency, duty cycle control method is used. The duty cycle control presents advantages over a frequency control in terms of increase in dc voltage gain and reduction of the primary current. The analysis and design procedure for the proposed scheme is presented and the performance result is simulated and verified experimentally.

  • In this paper, a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) frequency control algorithm is proposed to reduce the input current ripple of a multi-phase interleaved boost converter. Unlike conventional variable duty and constant frequency control, the proposed algorithm controls the switching frequency to regulate the output voltage. By fixing the duty ratio at 1/N in the N-phase interleaved boost converter, the input current ripple can be minimized by ripple cancellation. Furthermore, the negative effects of the diode reverse recovery current are eliminated because of the DCM characteristic. A frequency controller is designed to employ the proposed algorithm considering the magnetic permeability change. The proposed algorithm is analyzed in the frequency domain and verified by a 600 W three-phase boost converter prototype that achieved 57% ripple current reduction.

Design and implementation of optical identification system using visible light and infrared

  • In this study, an optical identification system was developed, wherein visible light is used to transmit the interrogating signal, and infrared is used to send the response signal. In the reader, visible light from a light emitting diode (LED) array was modulated via modified pulse width modulation for flicker-free illumination and dimming control. Moreover, the duty factor of the dimming control time was employed to control the illumination from the LED. In the transponder, the spike signal in the output of the high-pass filter was utilized to recover the interrogating signal while preventing interference from the 120-Hz noise from adjacent lighting lamps. The illumination was controlled in 26-86% range of the constant wave LED illumination by changing the duty factor from 20% to 90%. This configuration is advantageous for the construction of optical identification systems for automatic security check and car fare calculation at toll gates or parking facilities.

Illumination Control of LEDs in Visible Light Communication Using Manchester Code Transmission

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method for controlling the illumination of LEDs in visible light communication (VLC) by changing the duty cycle of Manchester code. When VLC data were transmitted in Manchester code, the average optical power of the LEDs was proportional to the duty cycle. In experiments, we controlled the illumination of a $3{\times}3$ LED array from 10% to 90% of its peak value by changing the duty cycle of the Manchester code. The synchronizing clocks required for encoding and decoding the Manchester code were supplied by pulse generators that were connected to a 220 V power line. All pulse generators made the same pulses with a repetition frequency of 120 Hz, and they were synchronized with the full-wave rectified voltage of the power line. This scheme is a very simple and useful method for constructing indoor wireless sensor networks using LED light.

  • In this paper, a soft switching half-bridge converter using secondary switches for output control and conduction loss reduction is proposed. The conventional half-bridge converter must be fixed on duty cycle for soft switching. The proposed converter was consisted of two added switches in series of the secondary rectifier diodes. The main switches with constant duty cycle are operated ZVS. The secondary switches are operated ZV-ZCS. Especially, the primary switches were fixed duty cycle for maximum voltage conversion ratio. Output of converter is controlled by duty cycle or phase-shifted time of secondary switches. The conduction loss of the proposed converter can be reduced by the secondary switches. The operation characteristic, analysis, simulation and experimental results of the proposed converter are presented.

  • This paper proposes a new control scheme for enhanced power factor in the boost type AC/DC rectifier. The control scheme is to generate duty-cycle pattern without instantaneous measurement of the input line current. With a very simple controller structure the line current is forced to trace a sinusoid in phase with input voltage. The simulation results show the validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • In SMPS, digital control techniques are adopted widely. But Digital controlled SMPS has poor performance of regulation and transient response than analog controlled SMPS. Delay time of control computing and low frequency of updating duty ratio make digital controlled SMPS poor performance. This paper proposed the optimized control computation to increase not only frequency of updating duty ratio but also switching frequency of SMPS.
