A New Three-Phase Current Modulation Method to Suppress the Commutation Torque Ripple of Brushless DC Motor

  • The brushless DC motor's commutation torque ripple is caused by inconsistency in the rate of phase current change. Thus, a method that considers armature resistance is proposed to modulate phase current. The three-phase control strategy, which involves the "open-phase conduction, off-phase pulse width modulation, and maintained non-commutation phase" technique, is applied during commutation at full-speed segments of the motor. Changes in each phase current are analyzed theoretically by establishing mathematical model based on phase current to determine the relative difference among shutdown phase, duty, and motor operating parameters. The turn-on and turn-off phase current change rates are made to be consistent to ensure less non-commutation phase current ripple, then the torque ripple is inhibited. The simulation results show that the phase commutation current and torque ripple coefficient of the proposed method are reduced from 56.9% and 55.5% to 6.8% and 6.1%, respectively. In the experiment system, the pulsation coefficient of the motor phase current is reduced from 40.0% to 16.7% at low speed and 50.0% to 18.8% at high speed. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control method significantly inhibits commutation current and torque in the full section.

A Holistic Approach to Optimizing the Lifetime of IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee Networks with a Deterministic Guarantee of Real-Time Flows

  • IEEE 802.15.4 is a global standard designed for emerging applications in low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs). The standard provides beneficial features, such as a beacon-enabled mode and guaranteed time slots for realtime data delivery. However, how to optimally operate those features is still an open issue. For the optimal operation of the features, this paper proposes a holistic optimization method that jointly optimizes three cross-related problems: cluster-tree construction, nodes' power configuration, and duty-cycle scheduling. Our holistic optimization method provides a solution for those problems so that all the real-time packets can be delivered within their deadlines in the most energy-efficient way. Our simulation study shows that compared to existing methods, our holistic optimization can guarantee the on-time delivery of all real-time packets while significantly saving energy, consequently, significantly increasing the lifetime of the network. Furthermore, we show that our holistic optimization can be extended to take advantage of the spatial reuse of a radio frequency resource among long distance nodes and, hence, significantly increase the entire network capacity.

The Development of the Stress Measurement Tool for Staff Nurses working in the Hospital (간호원이 근무중에 경험하는 스트레스 측정을 위한 도구개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the baseline data for developing the stress measurement tool for staff nurses working in the hospital. Two hundred and fifteen stan nurses in Seoul National University Hospital were participated during the period from Feb. 28 to Mar. 10, 1984. Though the pretest and literature review a questionnaire was constructed with 63 stressors which were experienced by the nurses in the hospital. Subjects were given instruction to rate 1∼6 likert type scale according to the level of stress experienced by each stressor described. Reliability of the tool was tested by Cronbach's Alpha, and the result was α=0.94871. Factor analysis was applied to organize 63 items together. As the result, 15 factors were obtained and these factors explained 66.3% of variance. The 15 factors were: 1) Work overload 2) Role conflict as a profession 3) Lack of professional knowledge and skill 4) Interpersonal problem 5) Conflict in nurse doctor relationship 6) Work conflict with doctors 7) Emotional burden due to the limitation of medicine 8) Poor treatment 9) Unsatisfactory relationship with supervisor 10) Low reward 11) Unsatisfactory relationship with subordinate 12) Poor physical environment of unit 13)Responsibility for extra affairs 14)Unfamiliar situation 15)Night duty.

  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) is one of the international environmental convention with the goal of stabilizing Greenhouse Gas(GHG) concent in the atmosphere and preventing potentially dangerous change in the earth's climate. The purpose of this convention is to reduce fossil fuel consumption and to prevent GHG emission. The Republic of Korea was one of the Annex-II parties submitted its national communication to the UNFCCC. As a developing county, there is no GHG emission reduction commitments made by South Korea during first commitment period(2008~2012). On the contrary, South Korea' status as an OECD member, joining in 1996, ranks 6th in GHG emission. Furthermore the rate of increase of GHG is first among OECD countries in year 2005. As a result, Korea will probably be incorporated into Annex-I in second commitment period (after 2013). So, Korea government established and announced Voluntary GHG Reduction scheme to reduce emissions of 4%(accounting for 30% reduction base on Business As Usual) from the 2005 level by the year 2020 for mitigation of reduction duty impact. In specific case of Korea, transportation section occupied almost 21% of total energy consumption and nearly 17% of total GHG emission at 2005, so systematic emission management is required. To do so, in this research, we focus on systematic way of GHG management system to handle GHG reduction duties in Railroad section.

Sensitivity Analysis of the 217PlusTM Component Models for Reliability Prediction of Electronic Systems (전자 시스템 신뢰도 예측을 위한 217PlusTM 부품모형의 민감도 분석)

  • MIL-HDBK-217 has played a pivotal role in reliability prediction of electronic equipments for more than 30 years. Recently, RIAC developed a new methodology $217Plus^{TM}$which officially replaces MIL-HDBK-217. Sensitivity analysis of the 217Plus component models to various parameters has been performed and meaningful observations have been drawn in this study. We first briefly reviewed the $217Plus^{TM}$ methodolog and compared it with the conventional model, MIL-HDBK-217. We then performed sensitivity analysis $217Plus^{TM}$ component models to various parameters. Based on the six parameters and an orthogonal array selected, we have performed indepth analyses concerning parameter effects on the model. Our result indicates that, among various parameters, operating temperature and temperature rise during operation have the most significant impacts on the life of a component, and thus a design robust to high temperature is the most importantly required. Next, year of manufacture, duty cycle, and voltage stress are weaker but may be significant when they are in heavy load conditions. Although our study is restricted to a specific type of diodes, the results are still valid to other cases. The results in this study not only figure out the behavior of the predicted failure rate as a function of parameters but provide meaningful guidelines for practical applications.

Proposal for the smoking prevalence among dentists and smoking cessation in 2005 (2005년 치과의사 흡연 실태와 금연교육에 대한 제언)

  • By organizing the results of study questioned 1,620 dentists working nationwide in 2005, we concluded the followings. 1. The smoking rate of dentist is 29.69%. 2. 60.9% of current dentist smokers responded that they started smoking at the age of 20-24, during their dental school ages. 3. 67.41% of respondents have no idea of cyber antismoking campaign launched by Korean Dental Association, and 94.07% of respondents didn t receive formal education about smoking cessation. 4. 59.01% of respondents want to educate patients about smoking cessation in dental clinics but couldn t help putting it off for practical reasons. The reasons include their busy office hour(36.30%), difficulties in collecting proper smoking cessation documents(25.10%), and lack of their own knowledge in renunciation of smoking. (18,83%) 5. As dental healthcare personnels, they agreed with their status and duty of leading role in national renunciation of smoking. (R>80%) 6. 83.34% of dentists agreed that if educational antismoking program is arranged by Korean Dental Association, they should receive the education.

Numerical Study on Co-Combustion in Diesel Engine for Heavy-Duty Power Generation (발전용 대형 엔진 적용을 위한 천연가스-디젤 혼소에 대한 수치 해석적 연구)

  • Recently KEPCO, KOGAS and other institutions are jointly conducting an R&D for the development and demonstration of the power generation system based on a natural gas/diesel engine on an island. As a preliminary study, co-combustion in the dual fuel engine, which is expected to produce a few mega-watts of electricity, was modeled and calculated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The applied key assumptions are 2-dimensional axisymmetric, transient and static volume chemical reaction. Based on the selected blending ratio, which is the key operating condition, natural gas is substituted instead of diesel fuel (basis of high heating value). Results showed that as the blending ratio increases, the reaction rate of the combustion increases and thus maximum temperature is reached more rapidly. For the optimal performance, various geometric or operational studies will further be conducted.

  • 현재의 인터넷과 같은 전자 통신망과 멀티미디어 시스템의 발달은 고속의 대용량 데이터 전송을 필요로 한다. 초고속 통신 시스템에서의 고속 데이터 전송은 주로 광섬유를 사용하는 광통신으로 이루어지고 있다. FTTH(Fiber To The Home)와 같은 광통신 시스템은 멀티미디어 커뮤니케이션을 위해 필요한 큰 데이터 전송률을 제공할 수 있기 때문에 더욱 더 중요성이 높아지고 있으며 이러한 광통신 시스템에서는 통신환경의 영향을 적게 받고 외부 조절이나 부품이 필요하지 않는 수신기 IC 의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 일반적으로 광통신 수신기에는 고속 동작에 적합한 특성을 가진 GaAs-MESFET 가 사용되고 있으나, 본 논문에서는 0.35um CMOS 2-poly 4-metal 공정을 이용하여 5Gbps 광수신기를 설계하였다. 설계된 수신기는 Preamplifier, Main amplifier, ABC 회로로 구성되어 있다. Transimpedance amplifier 형태의 Preamplifier 는 광검출기에 의해 생성된 전류 신호를 전압 신호로 변환한다. ABC 회로는 Peak_Hold 회로와 Bottom_Hold 회로로 구성되어 있다. 기존의 Peak_Hold 회로에서는 다이오드와 hold capacitor 를 이용하여 peak 값을 검출하도록 되어 있는데, 다이오드를 이용하는 경우 작은 입력 신호전압의 Peak 값을 검출하는 데 한계가 있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하고자 전류 거울형태의 Peak_Hold 회로를 설계하였다. 전류거울(current mirror)형태의 출력 신호의 duty error 를 줄이고 비트 에러율(Bit Error Rate)을 개선하는데 효과적이었다. 설계된 광수신기는 30dB 의 입력 dynamic range 와 입력 capacitance 3pF 에서 80MHz 의 대역폭을 가진다. 전력 소비량은 3.3V 전원 전압이 인가된 경우 약 150mW 정도이다.

Die-sinking Electrical Discharge Machining with Ultrasonic Emission for Ceramic Matrix Composite (초음파 진동 부가에 의한 세라믹 복합체의 형조방전가공)

  • Die-sinking electrical discharge machining(EDM) for conductive ceramic matrix composite(CMC) of Tic/$Al_2O_3$ was experienced with addition of ultrasonic emission, and the results were compared with ones obtained by the EDM only. From this experimental study, the values of material removal rate(MRR) and surface roughness($R_{max}$), scanning electron microscope(SEM) micrographs, and weibull probability distribution of bending strength for the specimens were obtained and compared. The trend of MRR was found to be increased slightly with the current and the duty factor for both EDM only and EDM with ultrasonic emission. The MRR values were found to be increased for EDM with ultrasonic emission. The SEM micrographs of EDMed surface by under various operating conditions showed less micro cracks in various places. Although smaller bending strength value was obtained by EDMed surface with ultrasonic emission by weibull probability distribution analysis of bending strength.

A Comparative Study of Satisfaction of Chinese and Japanese Transit Passengers at Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항에서 환승하는 중국인.일본인의 환승만족도에 대한 차이분석)

  • This paper tried to find out what the main factors are to impact on satisfaction level of transit passengers at Incheon airport. Incheon airport has made lots of transit facilities and services to attract transit passengers from neighboring airports to increase transit rate as high as advanced foreign airports such as Heathrow, Schiphol and Hong Kong. A survey was performed on 450 transit passengers resting at airport transit lounge in airside area. According to the result, it was found out to be significant factors affecting satisfaction of transit that convenience of security screening, price of duty-free product, a direction board & signage and terminal orientation among Chinese transit passengers. On the other hands, it seemed that Japanese transit passengers thought diversity of airline routes, convenient transfer flight schedule, total transit time and terminal orientation are major variables affecting their satisfaction. Considering the effect of demographic factors, Chinese passenger's satisfaction was more affected by age, travel purpose, the number of travel per year and flight destinations. However, Japanese transit passenger's satisfaction was only affected by the flight destinations, especially willing to travel to North America and Europe.
