  • Aming to find out any relationship between the health status of high school girls and the early loss of their parent, the Cornell Medical Index (C.M.I) Questionnaire and interview method were used for 314 girls as an experimental group and for 300girls as a control group. The study results showed as follows: 1. A significant difference in the health status between the experimental group and the control group was found in that the C.M.I. score showed higher in the experimental group than in the control group. 2. A significant difference in the health status was found in accordance with the sex of the lost parent, the cause of loss of the substitute for the lost parent, the age of losing parent and the duration of loss of parent in the experimental group. 3. A significant difference in the health status in the experimental group showed according to the three variables in the six variables-the sex of the lost parent, the cause of loss of parent, the substitute for the lost parent, the age of losing parent, the duration of loss of parent and the degree of economic support. The most significant factor toward the health status was shown by the age of losing parent, the sex of lost parent and the cause of loss of parent with the order.

  • Recent settlements and sinkhole openings in urban areas have caused social problems such as damage to roads and structures, fear of the public, and loss of property. Several studies have demonstrated that surface subsidence and sinkhole opening are greatly affected by rainfall and rainfall intensity in urban areas. In this paper, we analyzed the relationship with the characteristics of recorded rainfall data using the ground subsidence database reported in major cities. The correlations were found using sedimentation and precipitation data from 2010 to 2014. The duration and intensity of a given precipitation have evolved to obtain an effect on ground sedimentation rate (SR). The results show that the relationship between SR and precipitation is asymptotic and can be modeled by a hyperbolic equation. Through this study, it is possible to predict the occurrence of ground subsidence due to precipitation in advance.

  • Joint attention, language development, and the relationship between these two variables were compared in infants from multi-cultural and Korean families. Joint attention was observed in both the Early Social Communication Scale (ESCS) and in infant-mother free play. Language development was evaluated by means of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory-Korean. There were no group differences in initiating and responding to joint attention in ESCS. However, in infant-mother free play, joint attention episodes were less and shorter in duration with infants from multi-cultural families than in Korean infants. The size of both the expressive and receptive vocabulary was also smaller in infants from multi-cultural families than in Korean infants. In terms of Korean infants, mean duration of joint attention episodes in free play showed a significant positive correlation with the size of the expressive vocabulary and initiating joint attention in ESCS also showed a significant positive correlation with the size of receptive vocabulary. However, none of the measures of joint attention indicated a significant relationship with the size of either expressive or receptive vocabulary in infants from multi-cultural families.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation among parental bonding, attachment styles, love styles and satisfaction in dating and their effects on other variables. The main findings of the study were as follows 1)The stronger the relationship with one's parents in infancy, the higher the possibility to forge secure attachment. 2)There was a significant correlation between attachment styles and love styles. 3)There was a significant correlation between attachment styles and dating satisfaction. 4)There were meaningful differences on dating satisfaction and duration among different love types. This study showed the importance of forging secure attachment between parents and children, and found related variables that can affect dating satisfaction and duration. However, the study results were based on a limited group of people, which limits the generalizability of the results to the general public. Follow-up studies that cover a wide range of age groups and related variables are necessary.

  • Seismic intensity deduced from instrumental data has been evaluated using the empirical relationship between intensity and peak ground acceleration (PGA) during an earthquake. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) developed a seismic intensity meter, which can estimate the real-time seismic intensity from seismic motions observed at a local site to evaluate the damage during the earthquake more correctly. This paper proposes a practical application of the JMA intensity to dams during the 2013 earthquake in Yeongcheon, Korea. In the present paper, seismic intensity was estimated from the relationships between accelerations observed at Yeongcheon Dam. Estimated seismic intensities were in the range of 0 to 3, which was verified from the displacements of dams and the variation of the ground water level observed at Yeongcheon dam during the earthquake. The JMA intensity, which is determined by considering the frequency, duration of cyclic loading, etc., was 0 (zero) and there was no damage to Yeoncheon dam during the earthquake.

  • This study uses the 9th 1st year (2022) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to analyze the relationship between sleep time and the number of existing teeth for the adult population aged 19 or older to provide basic data on related dental development. There is a purpose. This program is designed to improve sleep quality and maintain the number of viable teeth in the future. The subjects were 53,220 people who answered the questions. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (ver 21.0) program using complex samples, and chi-square analysis and logistic return analysis were performed. As a result, it was found that 2.537 times more existing teeth remained when sleep time was 9 hours or more than when sleep time was 6 hours or less, and there was a statistically significant difference. In conclusion, it is necessary to recognize the importance of the number of remaining teeth and to make efforts to manage personal immunity, such as sleep management for adults, and to promote and prevent oral care and oral health education in order to maintain the number of remaining teeth.

  • This study was investigated the relationship between egg size and manifestation of quantitative characteristics such as larval growth, cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight etc. There was a high positive correlation between egg size and body weight of newly hatched larva. Until 2nd instar, larval growth was affected by egg size. The body weight of grown larva from big eggs were heavier on all strains except for strain El6 and the larval duration from big egg were shorter on the Japanese and the Chinese skins. These facts show that the characteristics of larval body weight and larval duration were affected more by the strain than by the egg size. The cocoon characteristics of big eggs were better in comparison than those of regular eggs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess sleep quality and to identify predictors of poor sleep quality in nursing students. Methods: The participants surveyed were 302 individuals at G College located in Kangwon-do. The participants completed the questionnaire including demographic characteristics, health behavior, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for sleep quality. The BMI was calculated using height and weight. For the statistical analysis, $X^2$ test, Spearman correlation, and logistic regression were performed using the SAS window (version 9.2) program. Results: From the 302 individuals, 219 (72.5%) had poor sleep quality. The results showed significant correlations between physical activity and sleep quality, as well as between sleep duration and sleep quality. The BMI and sleep quality did not show any significant relationship. The factors affecting sleep quality were sleep latency (OR, 4.167; 95% CI, 1.406-12.344), sleep duration (OR, 6.717; 95% CI, 2.386-18.912), and sedentary hours (OR, 2.971; 95% CI, 1.095-8.064). Conclusion: The study demonstrates that poor sleep quality is common in nursing students, and intervention study is needed to improve sleep quality in nursing students. Additional studies are needed to determine the relationship between BMI and sleep quality.
