  • The long-term storability of home-made dry sausage and ham in terms of peroxide value and thiobarbituric acid value, the effects of nitrite and NaCl contents on the deterioration of the products and the public acceptance of dry ham were studied. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Because the storability of the dried meat products is mainly affected by the fat rancidity of the fat content, POV of 10 was assumed the critical point of storability. The sample dry sausage used in this experiment has lost its storability within a ripening period of 5 weeks. And dry ham was lost its peculiar relish within 50 days. 2. The variations of the NaCl contents of the dry products were reflected in the ripening process. The correlation coefficient between the variations of the NaCl contents and the decrease in the weight of the dry ham was 0.85. 3. The survey of public taste for dry ham was conducted on 35 college students, who think it a bit tasteful or tasteless account for 66% of the total and those who think it a simple relish account for 60%, thus indicating that the dry ham still remains far away from the dining table.

  • This study shows the possible use of the Poisson process for the characterization of dry year return period and duration. For the analysis we used an annual precipitation data, which has been collected since 1911 in Seoul. The highest threshold for the application of the Poisson process was determined to be the mean-0.5standard deviation, and then the results from the Poisson process are compared with the observed. Especially, the Poisson process was found to reproduce the mean duration and return interval quite well and show the possibility of using the Poisson process for the drought analysis.

  • In previous report, we presented that petroleum based solvents used in dry cleaning shop was almost similar to stoddard solvent defined by ACGIH and NIOSH, and the occupational exposure standard of stoddard solvent could be used in total exposure assessment of those solvents. The specific aim of the this study was to evaluate of the solvent exposure used in commercial dry cleaning shops by using occupational exposure standard of stoddard solvent. We conducted first survey of 8 self-employed dry cleaning shops and 5 factory type dry cleaning shops from July to August, and second survey of the same shops from October to November in 2002. The exposure concentration to the solvent during loading and unloading activity of vented dry cleaning machine was 489.2ppm(GM), 270.3ppm(GM), respectively, which was almost excursion limit(500ppm) of ACGIH, and exceed the ceiling limit(312ppm) of NIOSH. The time-weighted average (TWA) worker exposure to the solvent was 21.3ppm(GM) at self-employed shops, 20.7ppm(GM) at factory type shops on first survey, and 31.1ppm(GM), 33.7ppm(GM), respectively on second survey. The TWA exposure concentration of workers with spotting and cleaning machine operating job was 25.4ppm(GM), which was 2.9 times higher than the TWA exposure concentration, 8.8ppm(GM) of press workers. All TWA exposure concentrations was lower than OEL(100ppm) of stoddard solvent. We found that the most heavy exposure process at dry cleaning was loading, unloading process, and the vent of dry cleaning machine was the main emission source for workers exposure to petroleum based solvent.

  • Conventional nickel-based catalyst processes used for dry reforming reactions have high activation temperatures and problems such as carbon deposition and metal sintering on the active sites of the catalyst surface. In this study, the characteristics of butane dry reforming reaction were investigated by using DBD plasma combined with catalytic process and compared with existing catalyst alone process. The physical and chemical properties of the catalysts were investigated using a surface area & pore size analyzer, XRD, SEM and TEM. Using $10%Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at $580^{\circ}C$, in the case of the catalyst+plasma process, the conversion of carbon dioxide and butane were improved by about 30% than catalyst alone process. When the catalyst+plasma process, the conversion of carbon dioxide and butane and the hydrogen production concentration are enhanced by the influence of various active species generated by the plasma. In addition, it was found that the particle size of the catalyst is decreased by the plasma in the reaction process, and the degree of dispersion of the catalyst is increased to improve the efficiency.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the drying rate and drying defects of Populus euramericana using the SDR (Saw-Dry-Rip) process. Flitches for SDR process were rough edged for compact kiln stacking, and then kiln-dried to 10 percent moisture content with dimensions in the same run, using the kiln-drying schedule ($T_8-F_4$) recommended by Rasmussen. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Drying rate of dimensions was slower than that of flitches. 2. Final moisture content and moisture distribution of dimensions were lower than those of flitches. 3. Average bowing, cupping, crooking, and twisting were reduced 20 percent, 25 percent, 54.9 percent, and 13.4 percent by SDR process respectively. 4. Bowing and cupping were more severe in dimensions from the area near the pith than in those from the area near the bark, and for crooking and twisting the reverse was true. 5. Surface checking of dimensions developed less than that of flitches and end checking of dimensions was similar to that of flitches. 6. Honeycomb, thickness shrinkage, and collapse of dimensions were similar to those of flitches. 7. The degree of casehardening of dimensions was higher than that of flitches.

  • This study was conducted to investigate changes in seed vigor based on temperature of dry heat and duration treatment of watermelon seeds and examine the effect on percent of emergence and seedling vigor. When the upper limit temperature of dry heat treatment was raised to 80℃, the percent of the germination decreased. Moreover, T50 was delayed as the upper limit temperature of dry heat treatment increased. The higher the upper limit temperature of dry heat treatment and the longer the treatment period, the higher the percentage of abnormal seedlings. The optimum upper limit temperature for dry heat treatment was 72℃, and the treatment period was five days. Seed vigor was better maintained at 30℃, 45℃, and 52℃, followed by stepwise exposure to high temperatures of 72℃, the upper limit of dry heat treatment, rather than dry heat treatment at a high temperature of 72℃ for 5 days from the initial stage of treatment. When the fungicide was added during the dry heat treatment process, the germination percentage decreased and the percent of the abnormal seedling percentage increased. However, the addition of 10 mg/kg fungicide did not significantly reduce seed vigor.

  • 5,6-dihydroxyindole was easily oxidation with air and light Conditions. Availability of 5,6-dihydroxyindole was studied for hair dye as a precursor of melanin. This study used wet and dry coating process to stabilize 5,6-dihydroxyindole. In wet process used dimethicone and cyclometicone, the 5,6-dihydroxyindole had darkened through the drying process at $58^{\circ}C$. Wet coating process was inappropriate to stabilize the coating. In dry coating process, shea butter coating was stable until 3 days. Dextrin palmitate was most efficient ingredient to prevent oxidation by sun light and air until 7days. Oxidation test with 1.0% and 1.5% of dextrin palmitate was not different under conditions of sun light and air and was not dependent on contents. Vitamin E acetate under conditions of sun light and air, there were no significant effect in preventing oxidation.

  • In the high carbon steel wire drawing process, the wire temperature increases as the drawing speed is faster in order to increase the production rate in the shop floor. The rapid temperature rise causes the wire fracture in the dry wire drawing process. So, in this paper, the isothermal pass schedule program, which includes the calculation method of wire temperature at each pass, is proposed to prevent the wire fracture due to the temperature rise. Using the isothermal pass schedule program, it is newly proposed the pass schedule design system that prevents the cup-cone defects, improves the elongation of the final products and assures further deformation. As a result, the temperature rise of the wire was decreased and the production rate of the final product is remarkably grown up according to the increase of the final drawing speed than that of the conventional process. Also, the proposed pass schedule design system could give a useful information to the process designer who would design the high carbon steel wire drawing process.

  • We studied about the effect of newly developed etchant for spacer etch process in gate patterning. With the 110nm CMOS technology, first, we changed the gate pattern size and investigated the variation of spacer etch profile according to the difference in gate length. Second, thickness of spacer nitride was changed and effect of etch ant on difference in nitride thickness was observed. In addition to these, spacer etch power was added as test item for variation of etch profile. We investigated the etch profiles with SEM and TEM analysis was used for plasma damage check. With these results we could check the process margins for gate patterning which could hold best performance and choose the condition for best spacer etch profile.

  • Tribologcal property of the ceramics used in severe condition was investigated and both $Al_2O_3$ ball and Al/SiC composite made by thermal spray process[TSP] were used as a specimen in this study. Four kinds of material couple in ball and disk specimens were tested in the dry condition by using ball-on-disk type tribo-tester. Friction coefficient, surface roughness, wear rate, and photograph of the worn surface were investigated. Generally, High SiC contents[$40{\sim}50%$] specimens showed very low friction coefficient below 0.05 and little wear rate in dry condition. And also, low SiC contents[0%] specimens showed a moderate wear rate and high coefficient of friction at the same condition.
