  • In recent years, the construction industry has also applied the dry method that can be assembled in the field by industrialization and factory production, which is free from climatic effects and can reduce the cost due to mass production and simplify the work in the field. Among the building materials used in this dry method, ALC products are made by mixing calcium oxide, gypsum, cement, and water in silica and putting them in an autoclave to create voids in the interior through steam curing at high temperature and pressure. But it requires curing cycle conditions of warming, isothermal, and temperature curing. It depends on the performance of the product depending on the curing conditions, the economical efficiency due to high oil prices, the emission of greenhouse gases by the use of fossil fuels. Experiments were conducted to select an appropriate animal protein foam for lightweight foamed concrete block which was cured by applying a prefilling method to replace existing ALC products. As a result of investigating the characteristics of lightweight foamed concrete by type of animal protein foam, it is considered that FP3 is most suitable for manufacturing lightweight foamed concrete block.

  • Three-dimensional dynamic analysis of underground openings subjected to explosive loadings considering the effects of water saturation is carried out in this study. The surrounding rock mass is assumed to be the limestone with 13.5% of porosity. Two calculations are compared using as identical explosive charge; the first in dry rock of 13.5% porosity, the second in the identical rock, but in a fully saturated condition. It is shown that velocity, displacement, and stress time histories are higher in saturated rock than those in dry rock through numerical studies. It is also shown that underground openings in saturated rock masses could be significantly more vulnerable to the potential damages associated with shear failure than those in dry medium.

  • In this study, multilayered graphene was easily transferred to the target substrate in one step using thermal release tape. The transmittance of the transferred graphene according to the number of layers was measured using a spectrophotometer. The sheet resistance was measured using a four-point probe system. Graphene formed using this transfer method showed almost the same electrical and optical properties as that formed using the conventional poly (methyl methacrylate) transfer method. This method is suitable for the mass production of graphene because of the short process time and easy large-area transfer. In addition, multilayered graphene can be transferred on various substrates without wetting problem using the one-step dry transfer method. In this work, this easy transfer method was used for dielectric substrates such as glass, paper and polyethylene terephthalate, and a sheet resistance of ~240 ohm/sq was obtained with three-layer graphene. By fabricating organic solar cells, we verified the feasibility of using this method for optoelectronic devices.

  • Volatile flavor compounds in the headspace of swiss cheese whey protein concentrate (WPC) were analyzed by dynamic headspace analyzer, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometer. Sixty one compounds were detected from the headspace of dry WPC and 23 compounds from the headspace of an aqueous solution of WPC. The major components were propanol, hexanal, 2-butanone, 2-pentanone, 2,3-butanedion, 2-propanol, acetic acid, dimethyl disulfide and benzothiazole. An external dynamic headspace sampler, devised for this study, effectively collected volatiles from the headspace of dry WPC and aqueous WPC solutions.

  • The removal mechanism of air borne methyl iodide by triethylenediamine (TEDA) impregnated charcoal bed was investigated. The analysis of experimental data indicates that pore diffusion is the rate controlling step when the air velocity is over 20cm/sec, and both fore diffusion resistance and external mass transfer resistance are contributed to the overall resistance when the air velocity is 10cm/sec. The adsorption model to describe the performance of impregnated charcoal bed under dry condition where water vapors do not exist in air, is proposed. The calculated values and experimental results are well matched.

  • Measurement of dried deposition for air pollutant was investigated in Gwang-ju Health college area for a year. The average value of air pollutants was investigated three times a month. Measured heavy metals and concentration of mass are not corelated. Heavy metals were thrown up air as state of large particles and they were moved by wind. Deposition of heavy metals and deposition velocities were high in the order of Fe > n > Cu > Pb > Cr and Pb > Fe > Cr > Zn > Cu, respectively. The pattems of deposition velocity of heavy metals for a year were much the same as each other except that Pb is faster than others.

  • This study was to determine the technical feasibility of using wastepaper fibers, obtained through dry processing of wastepaper, as reinforcement in thin cement produces. Dry-processed waste papers have high levels of noncellulosic impurities, and the recycling process also breads and damages the fibers. To produce wastepaper fiber-cement composites, first the influential variables in the slurry-dewatering method of processing the composites were identified in an experimental study based on factorial design. Among the proportioning and processing variables investigated, fiber mass fraction and level of substitution of virgin fibers with recycled ones were found to have statistically significant effects on mechanical and physical properties of composites. Subsequently, response surface analysis techniques were used to devise an experimental program that helped determine the optimum combinations of the selected influential variables based on mechanical and physical properties, and cost.

  • Culture conductivity and on-line NADH fluorescence were used to measure cellular growth in plant cell suspension cultures of Podophyllum hexandrum. An inverse correlation between dry cell weight and medium conductivity was observed during shake flask cultivation. A linear relationship between dry cell weight and culture NADH fluorescence was obtained during the exponential phase of batch cultivation In a bioreactor under the pH stat (pH 6) conditions. It was observed that conductivity measurement were suitable for biomass characterisation under highly dynamic uncontrolled shake flask cultivation conditions. However, if the acid/alkali feeding is done for pH control the conductivity measurement could not be applied. On the other hand the NADH fluorescence measurement allowed online-in situ biomass monitoring of rather heterogenous plant cell suspension cultures in bioreactor even under the most desirable pH stat conditions.

  • The study tasked by Ryan Lode Mines, Inc. involved analysis of pit slope stability for two future pits, Ryan and Curlew. A geological discontinuity survey and groundwater information were obtained through a field program. Twenty core logs containing geotechnical information were used for rock mass classification. The kinematic analysis was performed based on a friction angle (${\Phi}=35^{\circ}$), the distribution of geological structures, and a dry slope condition. Factors of safety of pit slopes in two future mines were determined using the limit equilibrium method. The mine slopes and benches designed by Mine Development Associates (MDA) were analyzed. The analysis indicated that both pits should have an overall safety factor above 1.0, provided the slopes are kept dry. However, slopes in both pits exceeding 91.4 m (300 ft) high will become critical, when water fills the cracks and discontinuities.

  • Three out of fourteen Microcystis-dominant cyanobacterial blooms in Central India were found to be toxic to mice ($LD_{50}$ ranging from 35-450 mg bloom dry mass/kg body weight). The liver architecture of the treated mice showed characteristic symptoms of hepatotoxicity relative to the untreated controls, with increased enzyme activities of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT). RP-HPLC revealed the presence of microcystin-LR, microcystin-RR, and desmethyl microcystin-RR in the given region to maximum amounts of 390, 1,030, and $860{\mu}g/g$ bloom dry weight, respectively, corresponding to a maximum of 2.8 mg/l microcystin-LR in the lake water. Further confirmation of the microcystin variants was conducted using a MALDI-TOF MS analysis.
