A theoretical and experimental study is performed to investigate the characteristics of ice slurry product. By diffusion-controlled evaporation model the possibility of ice slurry is theoretically anticipated. The water vapor evaporated from the surface of droplets is extracted continuously from the chamber by a vacuum pump. The droplet diameter is measured by silicon immersion method. The ice slurry is obtained by spraying droplets of ethylene glycol aqueous solution in the chamber where pressure is maintained under the triple point of water. The droplet with the diameter of 300 $\mu\textrm{m}$and the initial temperature of 2$0^{\circ}C$ was changed into ice particle within the chamber of 1.33m in height.

An experimental study is performed on atomization characteristics and stable operating condition for injection of high viscous waste vegetable oil using effervescent atomizer with two aerator tubes. Consideration is given to the effects of ALR and liquid viscosity on the velocity and mean diameter of the injected droplet. It is found that (i) as ALR increases, the axial velocity of the droplet is increased, while half-velocity width and SMD are decreased regardless of the change in liquid viscosities, (ii) the rate of fine drop distribution occupied in the total spray field is increased with an increasing in ALR, and (iii) the effect of viscosity on atomization characteristics is minor.

An experimental study was performed to develop the rotational fuel injection system of the micro turbojet engine. In this system, fuel is sprayed by centrifugal forces of engine shaft. The test rig was designed and manufactured to get droplet information on combustion space. This experimental apparatus consist of a high speed rotational device(Air-Spindle), fuel feeder, rotational fuel injector and acrylic case. To understand spray characteristics, spray droplet size, velocity and distribution were measured by PDPA (Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) and spray was visualized by using Nd-Yag laser-based flash photography. From the test results, the length of liquid column from injection orifice is controlled by the rotational speeds and Sauter Mean Diameter(SMD) is decreased with rotational speed. Also, Sauter Mean Diameter is increased as increasing mass flow rate at same rotational speeds.

This paper presents the effect of driving waveform for piezoelectric bend mode inkjet printhead with optimized mechanical design. Experimental and theoretical studies on the applied driving waveform versus jetting characteristics were performed. The inkjet head has been designed to maximize the droplet velocity, minimize voltage response of the actuator and optimize the firing frequency to eject ink droplet. The head design was carried out by using mechanical simulation. The printhead has been fabricated with Si(100) and SOI wafers by MEMS process and silicon direct bonding method. To investigate how performance of the piezoelectric ceramic actuator influences on droplet diameter and droplet velocity, the method of stroboscopy was used. Also we observed the movement characteristics of PZT actuator with LDV(Laser Doppler Vibrometer) system, oscilloscope and dynamic signal analyzer. Missing nozzles caused by bubbles in chamber were monitored by their resonance frequency. Using the water based ink of viscosity of 4.8 cps and surface tension of 0.025 N/m, it is possible to eject stable droplets up to 20 kHz, 4.4 m/s and above 8 pl at the different applied driving waveforms.

An electrostatic inkjet head can be used for manufacturing processes of large display systems and printed circuit boards (PCB) as well as inkjet printers because an electrostatic field provides an external force which can be manipulated to control sizes of droplets. The existing printing methods such as thermal bubble and piezo inkjet heads have shown difficulties to control the ejection of the droplets for printing applications. Thus, the new inkjet head has been proposed using the electrostatic force. A numerical analysis has been performed to calculate the intensity of the electrostatic field using the Maxwell's equation. Also, experiments have been carried out to investigate the droplet movement using a downward capillary with outside diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Gravity, surface tension, and electrostatic force have been analyzed with high voltages for a drop-on-demand ejection. It has been observed that the droplet size decreases and the frequency of the droplet formation and the velocity of the droplet ejection increase with increasing the intensity of the electrostatic field using high-speed camera.
The present study investigated experimentally the spreading characteristics of a single liquid impinging on the inclined micro-textured aluminum (Al 6061) surfaces manufactured by using a micro computerized numerical control (${\mu}$-CNC) milling machine. The textured surfaces were composed of patterned micro-holes (diameter of $125\;{\mu}m$ and depth of $125\;{\mu}m$). In our experiment, the de-ionized (DI) water droplet of $4.3\;{\mu}l$ was impinged normally on the non-textured and textured surfaces at two different Weber numbers, and the droplet impinged on the inclined surfaces with different angles. A high speed camera was used to capture sequential digital images for measurement of the maximum spreading distance. It was found that for the textured surface, the measured apparent equilibrium contact angle (ECA) increased up to $105.8^{\circ}$, higher than the measured ECA of $87.6^{\circ}$ for the non-textured (bare) surface. In addition, it is conjectured that the spreading distance decreased because of a liquid penetration during droplet spreading through the holes, the increase in hydrophobicity, and viscous dissipation during impact process.
During transients or accidents, the reactor core is uncovered, and droplets entrained above the quench front collides with the uncovered fuel rod surface. Droplet impact cooling can reduce the peak cladding temperature. Besides zirconium-based cladding, versatile accidental tolerant fuel (ATF) claddings, including FeCrAl, have been proposed to increase the accident coping time. In order to investigate the effect of surface properties on droplet impact cooling of cladding surfaces, the droplet impact phenomena are photographed on the FeCrAl and zircaloy-4 (Zr-4) surfaces under different conditions. On the oxidized FeCrAl surface, the Leidenfrost phenomenon is not observed even when the surface temperature is as high as 550 ℃ with We > 30. Comparison of the impact behaviors observed on different materials shows that nucleate and transition boiling is more intensive on surfaces with larger thermal conductivity. The Leidenfrost point temperature (LPT) decreases with the solid thermal effusivity (${\sqrt{k{\rho}C_p}}$). However, the CHF temperature is relatively insensitive to the surface oxidation and Weber number. Droplet spreading diameter is analyzed quantitatively in the film boiling stage. Based on the energy balance a correlation is proposed for droplet maximum spreading factor. A mechanistic model is also developed for the LPT based on homogeneous nucleation theory.

An experimental study was performed to understand spray characteristics of the V type rotating fuel nozzle with orifice diameters by using high speed rotational system. The experimental apparatus consist of a high speed rotational system, fuel injection system and acrylic case. The droplet size and velocity were measured by PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) and spray was visualized by using Nd-Yag laser-based flash photography. From the test results, droplet size is reduced with increasing orifice diameter up to the critical value. When increasing orifice diameter over than this critical value, droplet size is not decreased with increasing the orifice diameter. This is due to the irregular distribution of the liquid sheet around the inner surface of injection orifice.

Atomization characteristics of small LRE-injector spray are investigated by using dual-mode phase Doppler anemometry (DPDA). Velocity, size, number density, and volume flux were measured at various injection pressures along the radial distance to make a close inquiry into spatial distribution characteristic of spray droplets. As the injection pressure increases, the velocity, turbulence intensity, number density, and volume flux of spray droplets become higher, whereas the droplet size ($D_{10}$ or $D_{32}$) gets smaller. Also, velocity and volume flux are proportional to Sauter mean diameter (SMD, $D_{32}$).

Cooling fog is being used in various parts of society such as fine dust reduction, cleanliness, and temperature drop. Cooling fog has the advantage of low flow rate and ease of use compared to other spray systems. In the case of cooling fog, it was confirmed that the injection angle increased as the pressure increased and the nozzle diameter increased. In this study, the minimum injection angle was 33.61 degrees and the maximum injection angle was 107.38 degrees. It was confirmed that the larger the nozzle diameter and the smaller the pressure, the larger the droplet size. In addition, it was confirmed that the Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) increased along the X and Y axis directions. It was confirmed that the size of the droplet decreases as it approaches the nozzle tip due to the characteristics of the nozzle design factor.
