  • The threat of drones is widely occurring not only in the military field but also for important national facilities such as airports and nuclear power plants. Drones are very diverse in types and control methods, so it is not easy to have a uniform defense method and system, and with the development of drone technology, the war paradigm using drones as weapons is also changing. In particular, advances in drone technology are improving the efficiency and accuracy of reconnaissance and attack missions. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to secure research cases on military operation of drones due to difficulties in obtaining information on military operations. Therefore, in this study, we try to create basic data that can effectively establish a plan for performing reconnaissance and attack missions by deriving each operational aspect through analysis of operation cases of reconnaissance and attack drones.

  • On December 26, 2022, North Korea's drone provocation resumed for the first time in eight years. The threat covered not only the Seoul metropolitan area but also the no-fly zone for the presidential office's security, and the South Korean military's response to it is not appropriate, which is a major controversy. In the midst of this, problems caused by the prohibition of small drones' flight and illegal intrusion into restricted areas are increasing in Korea, and the threat is becoming a reality, such as being used for terrorist attacks abroad. In this paper, the concept of "Counter-Drone" and related technologies were considered for these drone threats, and implications were derived through domestic and overseas small drone threats, and the direction of development of the Counter-Drone system was presented. North Korea's drone threat is expected to be more diversified, massified, and advanced, resulting in bolder attacks and provocations. Therefore, the South Korean military should push for early powering of the integrated control system and the conter drone system, joint and military cooperation in response to the threat of small drones, and the ability to carry out joint operations between South Korea and the U.S.

  • Recently, drones have been used in various field to overcome time and space limitations. However, single drone still has a lot of restriction on transportation wight and travel time. Therefore many studies have been conducted to increase the utilization by swarm of drones. Many things should be additionally considered in order to operate swarming drones securely. Especially the group key management is a challenging research topic in tactical domain due to existence of adversary that has anti-drone skill. In this paper, we proposed an efficient group key management scheme for tactical swarming drone networks where an adversary equipped with anti-drone skills exists. The group key can be updated with a small number of message exchange compared to other convenience schemes. The numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme manages the group key efficiently and securely.

  • Various convergence technologies discovered through the 4th industrial revolution are permeating the industry. Drones are being used in industries such as construction, transportation, and national defense based on convergence technology. Quart-copter drone control is being used in a wide range of fields from the visual field of operation with the naked eye to the remote field of view using GCS. If we classify those who operate industrial drones, there are general pilots who directly use drones, instructors who train drone pilots, and mechanics who check the status of drones and use them for a long time. Depending on the shape of the screen of the drone GCS, a user's quick response or key data can be acquired. Accordingly, in this study, GUI characteristics were analyzed for the mission planner GCS and a screen composition method according to the user was proposed.

  • A drone invented for the military has been increased the range of application with the development of relevant technology, and it influences to include the private area. Currently, the use of drone has been increasing in many areas, such as agriculture, unmanned parcel service, production of image contents, and architecture. In 2021, South of Korea, a drone certificate system for drone flight is introduced and on operation. In case of drone flight with the maximum takeoff weight as 2kg or up, the flight experience and practical examination are required, whereas in case of drone lighter than 2kg, the online education qualification is enough to operate it without the flight experience and practical examination. Recently, the drone related accidents have been increasing with the rapidly supply of camera drones with the maximum takeoff weight as less than 2kg. This paper introduces the characteristics of the camera drone to meet burgeoning demand, and discusses an education plan for the camera drone.
