DiLO: Direct light detection and ranging odometry based on spherical range images for autonomous driving

  • Over the last few years, autonomous vehicles have progressed very rapidly. The odometry technique that estimates displacement from consecutive sensor inputs is an essential technique for autonomous driving. In this article, we propose a fast, robust, and accurate odometry technique. The proposed technique is light detection and ranging (LiDAR)-based direct odometry, which uses a spherical range image (SRI) that projects a three-dimensional point cloud onto a two-dimensional spherical image plane. Direct odometry is developed in a vision-based method, and a fast execution speed can be expected. However, applying LiDAR data is difficult because of the sparsity. To solve this problem, we propose an SRI generation method and mathematical analysis, two key point sampling methods using SRI to increase precision and robustness, and a fast optimization method. The proposed technique was tested with the KITTI dataset and real environments. Evaluation results yielded a translation error of 0.69%, a rotation error of 0.0031°/m in the KITTI training dataset, and an execution time of 17 ms. The results demonstrated high precision comparable with state-of-the-art and remarkably higher speed than conventional techniques.

  • This paper studied about the measurement method of the instantaneous dynamic load characteristics. this experimental study, we derived the instantaneous washing load characteristics and inertial moment characteristics according to the amount of laundry and water level. Also, this studied about the dynamic driving characteristics simulation method for the prediction of washing performance based on this load characteristics analysis. For this study, the design parameters of the driving motor are obtained by FEM analysis and the experiment. By using theses motor parameters and load characteristics, the instantaneous driving characteristics simulation is accomplished and it is verified with the experimental result of various driving conditions. The results of this paper would be very useful to the prediction of washing mode operation characteristics, and it can be also utilized to the washer motor control algorithm design for the washing performance improvement.

  • In general three position sensors are needed to drive three phases SRM. Single position sensor driving method for three phases Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) is proposed in this paper. By using single position sensor the cost of SRM is reduced. But position sensor the cost of SRM is reduced. But position detection at the staring is needed for single position sensor driving method. In this paper we propose the active align method to detect the relative position of rotor to three phases and align to the nearest phase. We proved the validity of the method by experiment and compare with other method.

Estimation of Vehicle Driving-Load with Application to Vehicle Intelligent Cruise Control

  • This paper describes a vehicle driving-load estimation method for application to vehicle Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC). Vehicle driving-load consists of aerodynamic force, rolling resistance, and gravitational force due to road slope and is unknown disturbance in a vehicle dynamic model. The vehicle driving-load has been estimated from engine and wheel speed measurements using a vehicle dynamic model a least square method. The estimated driving-load has been used in the adaptation of throttle/brake control law. The performance of the control law has been investigated via both simulation and vehicle tests. The simulation and test results show that the proposed control law can provide satisfactory vehicle-to-vehicle distance control performance for various driving situations.

  • This pacer studied on the lateral motion and yaw motion of the gantry crane which is used for the automated container terminal with two driving wheel types. Though several problems are occcurred in driving of gantry crane, they are solved by the motion by the operators. But, if the gantry crane is unmanned, it is automatically controlled without any operation. There are two types, cone and flat t y pin driving wheel shape. In cone type, lateral vibration and yaw motion of crane are issued. In flat type, the collision between wheel-flange and rail or the fitting between wheel-flanges and rail is issued. Especially, the collision between wheel-flange and rail is a very critical problem in driving of unmanned gantry crane. To bring a solution to the problems, the lateral and yaw dynamic equations of the driving mechanism of gantry crane with two driving wheel types are derived. Then, we investigate the driving characteristics of gantry crane. And this study used PD(Proportional-Derivative) Controller to control the lateral displacement and yaw angle of the gantry crane. The simulation result of the driving mechanism using the Runge-Kutta Method is presented in this paper.

국내 소형자동차의 실제 도로 주행 배출가스 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Emission Characteristics of Korean Light-duty Vehicles in Real-road Driving Conditions)

  • Strengthening vehicle emission regulation is one of important policies to improve air quality in urban area. Due to the limitation of specified driving cycles for certification test to reflect real driving conditions, additional off-cycle emission regulations have been adopted in US and being developed in Europe. The driving cycles of US or Europe have been used in emission certification for Korean light-duty vehicles, but it has not been known how well the driving cycles reflect various real driving patterns in Korea. In that point of view, it is required to estimate vehicle emission based on real road driving conditions to raise the effectiveness of vehicle emission regulation in Korea. In this study, real driving emission measurements have been conducted for three Korean light-duty vehicles with PEMS. The driving routes consisted of urban, rural and motorway in Seoul and Incheon. The data have been analyzed with various averaging methods including moving averaging windows method and compared to emission limits set with emission certification modes applied to tested vehicles. The results have shown that the real driving pollutant emissions of a gasoline and a LPG vehicles have been ranged quite lower than those of emission limits on CVS-75 driving cycle. But real driving NOx of a light duty diesel vehicle has been considerably higher than emission limit of NEDC driving cycle. The higher than expected NOx emission of a diesel vehicle might be caused by different strategy to control EGR in real driving condition from NEDC driving.

Obtaining the driving scale of turbulence from observations

  • To maintain turbulence in astrophysical fluids, driving is required. Constraining the driving scale of turbulence is important to identify the driving mechanism and also to obtain more accurate turbulence statistics from observations. We discuss how to obtain the driving scale of turbulence from observations. First, we explain the method to obtain the driving scale from the standard deviation of centroid velocity (i.e. the first moment of the line profile). Second, we discuss other techniques to obtain the driving scale.

자동차 주행 게임에서의 난이도 설정을 위한 도전 배치 방법 (A Method for Challenge Placement to Set the Level of Difficulty in a Car Driving Game)

  • 다양한 수준의 게임 난이도를 사용자에게 제공하는 것은 게임 개발 시 주요 고려 사항 중 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 1인용 자동차 주행 게임에서 주어진 난이도를 갖도록 주행 트랙에 도전들을 배치하는 방법을 제안한다. 여기서 도전은 자동차 주행을 방해하는 장애물을 말하고, 게임 난이도는 트랙 한 바퀴를 도는데 필요한 예상 주행 시간으로 나타낼 수 있다. 제안된 방법에서는 도전 배치 문제를 IP(Integer Programming) 문제로 모델링한 후, LP 완화 및 시뮬레이티드 어닐링 방법으로 해를 구한다. 실험 결과, 주어진 목표 시간에 맞는 주행 시간을 갖는 도전 배치를 구할 수 있었다. 이들 도전 배치를 트랙에 적용한 후 시험 주행해 봄으로써, 실제 주행 시간은 평균적으로 해당 도전 배치의 목표 시간과 일치함을 보였다. 제안된 방법은 사용자에게 다양한 난이도의 게임 플레이를 제공함으로써, 게임의 흥미와 몰입감을 높일 것이다.

  • 안전한 자율주행을 위하여 차량 센서에만 의존하는 Stand-alone 방식의 한계를 극복하기 위한 방법으로, 노변의 인프라와 자율주행차간 정보를 교환하는 '자율협력주행' 방식의 기술 개발이 이루어지고 있다. 이 과정에서 협력의 대상이 되는 동적정보는 통신 데이터 손실 측면의 평가방법이 일반적이지만, 정보로서 역할 중심의 평가방법이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 자율협력주행에서 동적정보 서비스 역할의 적정성을 평가하기 위하여 역할 기반 평가방법을 제안하였다. 평가 척도로 검출률, 검출 소요시간, LDM 처리시간을 제안하였고, 평가방법론을 검증하기 위하여 실제 도로에서 보행자 정보를 대상으로 실증 실험을 시행하였다. 실험 결과로는 검출률 99%, 소요시간 200ms/건, 처리시간 19ms/건을 얻었다. 향후 제안된 동적정보 서비스 평가 방법이 관련 정보제공 서비스의 평가에 활용되기를 기대한다.

모터스포츠 참여 동호인(운전자들)의 감각추구성향과 운전확신수준이 위험운전행동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Sensation Seeking and Driving Confidence Level on Reckless Driving Behavior in Motor Sports Club's Members)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of sensation seeking and driving confidence level on reckless driving behavior in motor sports club's members. Data was collected from 265participants of the Trackday, driving school. Subjects answered the questionnaire using convenient sampling method. Data which is obtained through self-administration was analyzed by using the frequency analysis and multiple regression. Results are as follows. First sensation seeking has influenced on reckless driving behavior such as, drunken driving and errors. Second, driving confidence level has influenced on reckless driving behavior such as, drunken driving, overspeed driving and errors.
