A New Gate Driver Technique for Voltage Balancing in Series-Connected Switching Devices (직렬 연결된 SiC MOSFET의 전압 평형을 위한 새로운 능동 게이트 구동 기법)

  • The series-connected semiconductor devices structure is one way to achieve a high voltage rating. However, a problem with voltage imbalance exists in which different voltages are applied to the series-connected switches. This paper proposed a new voltage balancing technique that controls the turn-off delay time of the switch by adding one bipolar junction transistor to the gate turn-off path. The validity of the proposed method is proved through simulation and experiment. The proposed active gate driver not only enables voltage balancing across a variety of current ranges but also has a greater voltage balancing performance compared with conventional RC snubber methods.

  • A driver-vehicle model means the integrated dynamic model that is able to estimate the steering wheel angle from the driver's desired path based on the dynamic characteristics of the driver and vehicle. Autonomous driving robot for factory automation has individual four-wheels which are driven by electronic motors. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of several four-wheel steering systems with the simultaneously steerable front and rear wheels are investigated and compared by means of the driver-vehicle model. A diver-vehicle model is proposed by using the PID control to velocity and trajectory of control autonomous driving robot. To determine the optimum speed of a autonomous driving robot, steady-state circle simulation is carried out with the ADAMS program and MATLAB control model.

  • A high voltage current sensing circuit for LED driver IC is designed and verfied by Cadence SPECTRE simulations. The current mirror pair, power and sensing MOSFETs with size ratio of K, is used in our on-chip current sensing circuit. Very low drain voltages of the current mirror pair should be matched to give accurate current sensing, so a folded-cascode opamp with a PMOS input pair is used in our design. A high voltage high side LDMOST switch is used between the current sensing circuit and power MOSFET to protect the current sensing circuit from the high output voltage. Simulation results using 0.35um BCD process show that current sensing is accurate with properly frequency compensated opamp.

  • We have developed a new gate driver circuit for liquid crystal displays using oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs). In the new gate driver, negative gate bias is applied to turn off the oxide TFTs because the oxide TFT occasionally has negative threshold voltage (VT). In addition, we employed three parallel pull-down TFTs that are turned on in turns to enhance the stability. SPICE simulation showed that the proposed circuit worked successfully covering the VT range of -3 V ~ +6 V And fabrication results confirmed stable operation of the new circuit using oxide TFTs.

  • The camera electronics in the KOMPSAT-3 payload provides the several control clocks in order to move the charges, which are converted from the light in the pixel, in the vertical and horizontal direction. Generally, the control clocks depend on the CCD internal design in the system. The KOMPSAT-3 payload uses the CCD controlled by 3-phase vertical clocks and 4-phase timing. The camera generates the various clocks such as the vertical clocks, the horizontal clocks, the summing clocks, the reset clocks and so on. The vertical clocks are deeply related to the camera performance and synchronized with satellite scan-rate even though they are relatively slow. Also, it gives the horizontal clocks without distortion under the very fast pixel-rate. This paper shows the design and simulation of the CCD clocks driver for the KOMPSAT-3 payload.

  • Considering the domestic traffic environment and the increase of traffic accidents, we have been asked to exactly analyze the main causes of accidents for the accident-experienced drivers to be rehabilitated. In this thesis we present the development process and results of a driving simulator using the IPDE method in the interest of safe driving and driving rehabilitation. Through this Driving simulation development the rehabilitated driver has the possibility of experiencing the real driving situation with the driving aptitude and examines the reasons of accidents. Through the examinations the driver has the chance to correct the deformities of driving by choosing the explanatory scenes, and through this process the driver is able to develop the capability to react in the real situation. However this driving simulation system is one of the best developed, depending on weather and road condition the braking distance may change. Therefore the fuzzy rule and neural network have been used in this thesis to solve previously mentioned problem. The simulation exactly calculated the road and weather conditions to adjust the breaking intensity.

  • A fast-switching current-pulse driver for light emitting diode (LED) backlight is proposed. It uses a regulated drain current mirror (RD-CM) [1] and a high-voltage NMOS transistor (HV-NMOS). It achieves the fast-response current-pulse switching by using a dynamic gain-boosting amplifier (DGB-AMP). The DGB-AMP does not discharge the large HV-NMOS gate capacitance of the RD-CM when the output current switch turns off. Therefore, it does not need to charge the HV-NMOS gate capacitance when the switch turns on. The proposed current-pulse driver achieves the fast current switching by removing the repetitive gate discharging and charging. Simulation results were verified with measurements performed on a fabricated chip using a 5V/40V 0.5um BCD process. It reduces the switching delay to 360ns from 700ns of the conventional current-pulse driver.

Cost-Efficient and Automatic Large Volume Data Acquisition Method for On-Chip Random Process Variation Measurement

  • This paper proposes a cost-efficient and automatic method for large data acquisition from a test chip without expensive equipment to characterize random process variation in an integrated circuit. Our method requires only a test chip, a personal computer, a cheap digital-to-analog converter, a controller and multimeters, and thus large volume measurement can be performed on an office desk at low cost. To demonstrate the proposed method, we designed a test chip with a current model logic driver and an array of 128 current mirrors that mimic the random process variation of the driver's tail current mirror. Using our method, we characterized the random process variation of the driver's voltage due to the random process variation on the driver's tail current mirror from large volume measurement data. The statistical characteristics of the driver's output voltage calculated from the measured data are compared with Monte Carlo simulation. The difference between the measured and the simulated averages and standard deviations are less than 20% showing that we can easily characterize the random process variation at low cost by using our cost-efficient automatic large data acquisition method.

  • A TRIAC dimming LED driver that can control the brightness of LED arrays for a wide range of source voltage variations is proposed in this paper. Unlike conventional PWM LED drivers, the proposed LED driver adopts a TRIAC switch, which inherently guarantees zero current switching and has been proven to be quite reliable over its long lifetime. Unlike previous TRIAC type LED drivers, the proposed LED driver is composed of an LC input filter and a variable switched capacitance, which is modulated by the TRIAC turn-on timing. Thus, the LED power regulation and dimming control, which are done by a volume resistor in the same way as the conventional TRIAC dimmers, can be simultaneously performed by the TRIAC control circuit. Because the proposed LED driver has high efficiency and a long lifetime with a high power factor (PF) and low total harmonic distortion (THD) characteristics, it is quite adequate for industrial lighting applications such as streets, factories, parking garages, and emergency stairs. A simple step-down capacitive power supply circuit composed of passive components only is also proposed, which is quite useful for providing DC power from an AC source without a bulky and heavy transformer. A prototype 60 W LED driver was implemented by the proposed design procedure and verified by simulation and experimental results, where the efficiency, PF, and THD are 92%, 0.94, and 6.3%, respectively. The LED power variation is well mitigated to below ${\pm}2%$ for 190 V < $V_s$ < 250 V by using the proposed simple control circuit.

Ride Performance Evaluation of a Heavy Truck Semi-active Cabin Air Suspension System (대형 트럭 반능동형 캐빈 공기 현가시스템의 승차감 성능 평가 연구)

  • Semi-active cabin air suspension system improves driver's comfort by controlling the damping characteristics in accordance with driving situation. For the driver's comfort evaluation, test procedure has the two methodologies which are filed test and lab test. A field test method has a drawback. It requires a lot of time and money on repetitive test, due to the sensitivity of field test. On the other hand, the test with six axes simulation table at laboratory can obtain the repeatability of test, better than the field test method. In this paper, the procedures of ride performance test and control logic tuning with the table are presented. Drive files of the table can be represented with the almost same input condition as field test data. According to the result from the comparative test using six axes simulation table between passive and semi-active system by making ECU logic tuning, the RMS acceleration of semi-active cabin air suspension system was reduced by 29.6% compared with passive system.
