This studies are performed as following. (1) The characteristics of $\beta$ type stirling engine, (2) The kinds of driving mechanism, (3) The structure of rhombic drive mechanism, (4) The reasons of making choice of the rhombic drive mechanism in $\beta$ type stirling engines, (5) Ultimately the purpose of this paper is to determine the main design parameters of $\beta$ type stirling engines for marine use having the rhombic drive mechanism. Finally, We can adapt the result of this paper in designing of $\beta$ type stirling engine driven by the rhombic drive mechanism.

Recent issues in Optical Disk Drive (ODD) are focused on small size. Blu-ray Disk (BD), using blue laser (405nm wavelength) and high NA (0.85) objective lens. can store 25Gbyte on a conventional 12cm optical disk. Small Form Factor Optical (SFFO) drive uses 3cm disk which can store 1.5Gbyte on a disk. This kind of Small Form Factot Optical (SFFO) drive correspond to PCMCIA type memory (Compact Flash or Micro Drive). Preferably, Optical Disk has relatively low cost of the storage media per Byte rather than PCMCIA type memory. To make Small Form Factor Optical (SFFO) drive. optical pickup and its component must be miniaturized. Miniaturization of the component needs new concept of Optical Pickup. This paper is focused on two main subjects. One is Objective Lens design which can be manufactured on a wafer, and the other is optical path design of the pickup which has 2mm thickness.

The positioning system for an ultra precision machine tool must be accurate to the order of a nanometer. Various feed drive devices have been proposed to achieve this resolution; currently, most attention is directed towards hydrostatic lead screws and friction drives. It has been reported that a positioning resolution accurate to an angstrom can be achieved using a twist-roller friction drive. Therefore, we manufactured an ultra precision positioning system driven by a twist-roller friction drive and assessed its performance when defining problems and finding solutions. Our study showed that the twist-roller friction drive is mechanically suitable for ultra precision positioning, but some considerations are required to obtain a higher resolution.

Recently as the application of gear drive increases in high-speed and high-loading, the concern of designing multi-stage gear drive is being risen. Until now however, the research of gear drive is focused on single-stage gear drive and the design depends on experiences and know-how of designer and is carried out by trial and error. This research automated the basic design and the configuration design for two and three-stage gear drives which consist of cylindrical gears. In basic design, design is executed with two design processes, which minimize the overall volume of gear, and whose results are compared each other. In configuration design, the positions of gears are determined to minimize the volume of gearbox using the result of basic design and simulated annealing algorithm.
This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of a SRM drive for EPS application. A conventional driving room space and mechanical structure are suggested in design stage. In the restricted design conditions, motor parameters are determined for sufficient torque and speed. For the smooth torque generation and simple circuit of power system, 12/8 motor drive is considered. With FEM and magnetic circuit analysis, designed motor is simulated to meet the requirement of specifications. Effectiveness of the suggested SRM drive for EPS application is verified by the manufactured prototype motor drive tests.

A carbon/epoxy composite drive shaft used for the power transmission of the automobiles with steel joints. Compared with the metallic drive shaft, the composite one has the weight saving of 50% with equivalent torsional strength and fatigue characteristics. In this study, the filament winding technique for the composite tube and composite/metal joining technique are estabilished. The performance test of the drive shaft is carried out. The optimal condition of the surface roughness of the steel adherend was $1.5{{\mu}m}$ to $2.5{{\mu}m}$, and the optimal condition of the bonding thickness was 0.15mm. Maximum torque and torsional stiffness of the composite drive shaft manufactured by filament winding process were found to be $210kg{\cdot}m$ and $18.5kg{\cdot}m/deg$, respectively.

For ultraprecision positioning, the use of the twist roller-type friction drive is proposed. In our study, it is difficult to decrease the resolution of positioning below 100 nm when we use general servo motors. Therefore we propose the feed hive with a small lead like a the cam-roller type traction drive leadscrew and modify it more accurately. By using the semi-loop control system, the positioning resolution of the drive can be 22.4 nm, where the pulse per revolution of the motor is 655360 and the the lead is 0.734 mm.
The simple construction and low cost, fault tolerant power electronic drive has made the switched reluctance drive a strong contender for many applications. But the switched reluctance drive does exhibit higher levels of vibration and acoustic noise than most competing drives. The main source of vibration in the switched reluctance drive is generated by rapid change of radial force when phase current is extinguished by commutation action. In this paper, a hybrid excitation method is proposed to reduce vibration and acoustic noise of the switched reluctance drive. The hybrid excitation has 2-phase excitation by long dwell angle as well as conventional 1-phase excitation. The vibration and acoustic noise are reduced because the scheme reduces abrupt change of excitation level by distributed and balanced excitation.
For an accurate computer simulation to motor drive systems, the target mechanical load system driven by a motor needs to be model its characteristics accurately. In general, a load system is modeled simply with system parameters such as approximated system inertia and friction. So, simulation results have some errors compared with experimental results for a real load system. RecurDyn is a mechanics simulation program for 3-dimension analysis to mechanical load systems. From this program, parameters such as a load torque, a system inertia and a viscous friction can be obtained accurately which are required to model a mechanical system. Also, this program operates together Matlab/Simulink which is used to simulate electrical motor drive systems. So, an accurate simulation for the whole system with a motor drive system and a mechanical load is possible. This paper introduces an application of RecurDyn program to an electric forklift drive system using IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and examines the feasibility of co-simulation it with Matlab/Simulink.
A simple construction, low cost, and a fault tolerant power electronic drive have made the switched reluctance drive a strong contender for many applications. But the switched reluctance drive exhibits higher levels of vibration and acoustic noise than most competing drives. The main source of vibration in the switched reluctance drive is generated by the rapid change of radial magnetic force when the phase current is extinguished during commutation. In this paper, some excitation methods are proposed to reduce the vibration and acoustic noise of the switched reluctance drive. The excitation strategies considered in this research are 1-phase, 2-phase and hybrid excitation methods. The 1-phase method is the conventional approach, while in the 2-phase method, the two phases are excited simultaneously. The hybrid excitation has 2-phase excitation using a long dwell angle as well as conventional 1-phase excitation. The vibration and acoustic noise are compared and tested. The suggested 2-phase and hybrid strategies reduce acoustic noise because the schemes reduce the abrupt change in excitation level by using distributed and balanced excitation.
