The researcher intended to investigate the rate of absenteeism and other related statistics among the workers in a steel and iron industry with the criteria and the recommendation of the International Association on Occupational Health. With the well designed questionaire and interview, 1,882 workers were surveyed from July the 24th to the 28th, 1978. The results were as follows; The workers who experienced absence were 16.8% in July. The rate of frequency (spells) was 3.24, the duration was 4.65, the frequency (persons) was 345.20, and the lost time was 1.27. 41.0% among the absentee experienced sickness absences and the rates of sickness absence were as follow; the frequency (spells) nab 1.34, the duration was 2.29, the frequency (persons) was 101.06 and the lost time was 0.63, respectively. The main causes of sickness absence were general symptoms, such as fatigue (50.8%) and gastro-intestinal symptoms (13.8%). The frequency of sickness was highly correlated to the frequency of drinking, the amount of smoking, the physical work-load and the amount of drinking, which was analysed by the stepwize multiple regrssion analysis. The multiple R due to the above mentioned four variables was 0.320 and the R square was 10.3%.
This study was conducted to (a) investigate the frequency of Korean beverage consumption, (b) analyze the characteristics of socio-demographically classified group according to drinking frequency, (c) investigate the attitude for and awareness of Korean beverage and (d) analyze the factors which influence Korean beverage consumption. The survey was carried out by self-administered questionnaires with 2,200 subjects residing in Seoul. A total of 1,885 samples were used for analysis by using t-test, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Duncan's multiple comparison test, factor analysis, and analysis of covariance (ANOCOVA) with SAS computer program. Among various Korean beverage, Donggulre tea was consumed most frequently at an average of 7.4 times per month, and followed by rice beverage, Mi Su, Citron tea, Shick Hae and canned Shick Hae. Among the age groups, the group of 20s showed the lowest frequency of Korean beverage consumption exempt rice beverage. According to occupation group, middle and high school and college student groups showed a high frequency of consumption of cereal based drink such as rice beverage, Mi Su and Yulmu tea. The behavior examination aimed at learning the perceptions relevant to the choice of beverage showed that the subjects believe Korean beverage healthful and nutritious but not familiar through advertisement, not easy to buy, and not to be a habitual drink. The factors influencing the frequency of Korean beverage consumption were shown as health-related factors and habitual/practical factors.
Purpose: This paper is to analyze motivation and behavior of alcohol use of employees, and effects of social pressure on alcohol use of employees. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with 341 employees in Industrial Complex. Data were collected from June 26, 2007 to July 11, 2007. Collected data were analysed through Frequency, ANOVA, One-way ANOVA test. Result: Social motivation showed the highest mean among motivation of alcohol use, man showed higher mean than woman on confirmity motivation and affirmation motivation. Dangerous alcohol use showed the highest mean among behavior of alcohol use, man showed higher mean than woman on behavior of alcohol use. Effects of peer showed higher mean than effects of family, generally the more high effects of peer is, the more higher confirmity motivation, dangerous and dependent alcohol use showed. Conclusion: Therefore, to decrease alcohol use of employees must be prepared an alternatives to change drinking culture and recognition, and developed for working man and individual workplaces.
The study is carried out to investigate the effect of drinking and smoking for the activities of aspartate aminotransferase(AST, or GOT) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT or GPT), from December 25, 1986 to April 30, 1987. The male physical examinees for employment, 900 who had visited to the Taegu Medical Center were subjected. And the positive cases of HBs-Ag, Anti-HBs and skin test for Clonorchis sinensis were excluded. The general characters of drinking and smoking pattern were introduced by interview with questionnaire provided for. In drinking cases, the longer duration was significantly effected the higher rate of abnormality in AST and ALT level. But the amount and the frequency were not. It was not appeared effects by mackgulri which is a Korean traditional wine and small amount of beers. In smoking cases, also same pattern. The age was related in all cases. By the way, when the effect is related the positive results with other factors: HBs-Ag, Anti-HBs, skin test for Clonorchiasis and harmful occupational history, it is higher abnormal rate of AST and ALT in the duplicated cases with two factors or more. Particularly in HBs-Ag positive cases, those who had smoking was the highest in rate of abnormality, and drinking was the follows. In correlation matrix among seven factors; HBs-Ag, age, drinking amount, drinking period, drinking frequency, smoking amount and smoking period, correlation coefficient was significant between the abnormal rate and to with age, drinking period, smoking period, and smoking amount.

The purpose of this study is to identify the relevance of drinking habits among college students on the creation of drinking problems and behavioral problems and depression related to drinking problems. For this, random sampling was performed on students enrolled in a college located in Chungcheongnam-do from December 12, 2011 to December 23, 2011. For the study instruments, we gathered data using questionnaires in with a survey reorganized based on literary reviews and previous studies. A total of 262 questionnaires have been collected. The results of the investigation are as follows. As a result of performing the frequency analysis to find the drinking habits of college students, 38.2% of them were found as having drinking habits. Also as a result of analyzing whether there is difference of depression levels according to the drinking habits of college students, the instance of having drinking habits had relatively high depression level compared to the instance of not having drinking habits after analyzing by the existence of drinking habit. This study found the relevance of drinking habits among college students which leads to drinking problems and depression to present the objectives for the improvement of drinking habits. Through this study, a policy oriented support of the government related to the specific drinking problem preventing strategies and programs are anticipated.

This study was performed to examine the impact on the health behaviors of the children by their parents' drinking behaviors. We used the data from a community health survey in 2009. The subjects were selected the household that had a child older than 19, and then among them, chose those 916 parents of highly risky drinking exposition among 16,383 control parents. The collected data was analyzed by frequency, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis, using SPSS 18.0k program. Parent's high risk drinking behavior was independently associated with children's high risk drinking behavior after adjusting covariates(p<0.01). According to the result of the study, high risk drinking behavior of parents impact highly on the children's high risk alcohol drinking, nutritional behaviors, influenza vaccination, and tooth brushing, so it's necessary to consider a systematic family health education to the high risk drinkers.

Objectives: This study is to develop a web-based prevention program of alcohol-related problem among university students and to examine its efficacy in changing drinking behaviors and reducing harms associated with alcohol use. Methods: An hour-length program was developed containing news paper articles, pictures, stories and questionnaires in a multimedia format such as flash, animation, and text. Survey data were analyzed to examine program efficacy from a convenient sample of 1,080 freshmen enrolled in a participating university. Results: Participation in the program has resulted in statistically significant changes in drinking behavior between pretest and follow-up, including reduction of frequency of drinking, heavy drinking, and intoxication, typical amount of drinking per occasion, and subjective norm of heavy drinking. Repeated ANOVA revealed significant increases in knowledge on alcohol related facts, including recommended drinking unit by WHO with substantial level of effect size and in making negative alcohol expectancy with very low effect size. Further studies are guaranteed with randomized controlled trial for the program effectiveness. Conclusions: A web-based prevention program of alcohol-related problems in this study was efficacious in changing drinking behavior, knowledge on alcohol-related fact, alcohol expectancy and subjective drinking norm.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the self-care and the physical symptom and to analyse the correlation between self-care and physical symptom in type2 diabetic patients. Method: 201 Participants were recruited from the endocrinology outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital in an urban city. The data were collected by self report self-care and physical symptom questionnaire. Results: The alcohol drinking frequency was lower in female than in male patients. The frequency of nausea or vomiting, morning headaches, lightheadedness, weakness, pain in the heart, pain in the back, stiffness in any join or muscle, and getting very tired in a short time were higher in female than in male diabetic patients. The exercise frequency was negatively correlated with physical symptom in female patients. Conclusion: The alcohol drinking frequency was lower in female than in male patients. The female patients had more physical symptoms than the male patients. The exercise frequency was negatively correlated with physical symptom in female patients.

Purpose : Adolescence is a period of growth and development in body structure and physiologic, psychologic, and social functioning. Smoking and drinking in this period are very harmful and may lead to other forms of substance abuse. We surveyed the actual aspects of smoking and drinking among Korean adolescents and analyzed associated factors. Methods : A survey was performed among adolescents using a questionnaire about smoking and drinking. Data were collected from students who visited pediatric clinics for routine school examinations from July to November 2007. Results : A total of 2,546 adolescents (smoking 1,512; drinking 1,034) participated in the study. The overall smoking and drinking rates were 29.2% and 48.2%, respectively, and the mean age at the first instance of smoking and drinking was 13.8 and 14.1 years, respectively. Among drinking adolescents, 30.1% were offered a drink by their parents, although most adolescents were encouraged to smoke or drink by their friends. Dissatisfaction with family and school life, economic status, and school performance was associated with a higher smoking and drinking rate (P<0.001). Broken families were associated with a high rate of smoking, but peer satisfaction was not related to smoking or drinking. The frequency and amount of smoking and drinking in adolescents were as high as those in adults. Social sanctions seemed insufficient to keep adolescents from smoking and drinking. Conclusion : Adolescent smoking and drinking are highly influenced by family and school environments, so more active social sanctions are required, including parental involvement and legislation preventing adolescents from smoking and drinking.
Objectives: To investigate the drinking and smoking habits among the community residents of a city. Methods: We surveyed 1.973 adults from October 1, 2005 to November 16, 2005. The data collected on alcohol drinking habits involved frequency, age of initiation, amount of alcohol consumed, number of attempts to reduce consumption and reasons for reducing it. The data collected on smoking habits involved amount, age of initiation, duration, situations, and the number of attempts to quit smoking. These were analyzed with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, $x^2$-test, t-test and ANOVA. Results: The rate of drinking was 67.4%; 83.1% among males, and 52.5%among females. Among all drinkers, the largest group (29.8%) drank once or twice a week. The mean age of initiation was 21.2 years; 19.9 among males, and 22.8 among females. The average consumed amount was 5.8 glasses; males consumed 7.4 glasses, and females 3.3 glasses. The consumption was the highest among those in fifties. The rate of attempts to reduce drinking was 33.4%, mainly for health reasons. The rate of smoking was 38.0%; 72.4% among males, and 5.5% among females. Among all smokers, the largest group (44.1%) smoked between 11 and 20 cigarettes per day. The mean of the age of initiation was 20.7 years; 20.3 among males, 25.6 among females. The mean smoking duration was 20.9 years; 21.3 years among males, and 16.2 years among females. The main reason for the initial attempt was curiosity. The most common situation for smoking was after dinner. The rate of attempts to quit smoking was 77.1%, mainly out of concern for one's health. Alcohol consumption among smokers was higher than among any other group of nonsmokers. Also, the age of drinking initiation among smokers was lower than among any other group of nonsmokers. Conclusion: This study highlighted the actual data on drinking and smoking habits among community residents. The study can be utilized for creating programs aiming at reducing the consumption of alcohol and tobacco or stopping it altogether. Therefore, it is now possible to assess the indicators for interventions in each population group. Finally, the groups of heavy drinkers and smokers are expected to be given priority for intervention program.
