금속이온이 솔잎 tyrosinase의 활성에 미치는 영향 (Metal Ions' Effect on Activity of Pine Needle Tyrosinase)

  • The purpose of this study is to explain the relations between pine needle tyrosinase's activity and quantity of minerals in the Waters' mineral water. Pine needle tyrosinase's activity was measured by metal ions' concentration like Ca, Mg, Na, K, and Fe in different kinds of drinking water. 1. Pine needle tyrosinase has the highest activity when Ca's concentration is 14.40mg/L while the activity decreases by 92% when it is 108.10 mg/L. Therefore, the resonable range of Ca concentration for drinking water is 10-100.0 mg/L. 2. Mg has higher Pine needle tyrosinase's activity than Ca by three times. The reasonable range of Mg concentration for drinking water is 3.0-10.0 mg/L. 3. Pine needle tyrosinase has the highest activity when Na's concentration is 15.70 mg/L. The reasonable range of Na concentration for drinking water is less than 15 mg/L. 4. The activity increases as K concentration rises. In normal kinds of drinking water, K concentration is less than 10 mg/L. Since K has impacts on the activity only when its concentration is more than 10 mg/L, no problem in expected. 5. Fe has some impacts on the activity when its concentration is more than 10mg/L. As most kinds of drinking water contain less than 0.3 mg/L, no problem is expected. With above-mentioned observations, it is concluded that Water's mineral water contains reasonable levels of minerals like Ca, Mg, K and Na.

산란계에 적용 가능한 공기-물 히트펌프의 음용수 공급시스템 이용기술에 관한 연구 (Study on the Utilization of Drinking Water Supply System of Air-water Heat Pumps Applicable to Laying Hen)

  • The drinking water supply system applicable to the laying hen consists of air-water heat pumps, drinking water tanks, heat stroage tank, circulation pumps, PE pipes, nipples, and control panels. When the heat pump system has power of 7.7 to 8.7 kW per hour, the performance coefficient is between 3.1 and 3.5. The supply temperature from the heat pump to the heat stroage tank was stabilized at about $12{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, but the return temperature showed a variation of from 8 to $14^{\circ}C$. Stratified temperature in the storage tank appeared at $12.^{\circ}C$, $13.5^{\circ}C$ and $14.4^{\circ}C$, respectively. The drinking water supply temperature remained set at $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$, and the conventional tap water showed a variation for $23^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$. As chickens grow older, the amount of food intake and drinking water increased. $y=-0.0563x^2+4.7383x+8.743$, $R^2=0.98$ and the feed intake showed $y=-0.1013x^2+8.5611x$. In the future, further studies will need to figure out the cooling effect on heat stress of livestock.

먹는 샘물의 방사성물질 측정 및 유해성 평가 (Evaluation of Radioactive Substance and Measurement of Harmfulness in Drinking Water)

  • As the number of single-person households increases, the consumption of bottled water is increasing. In addition, as the public's interest in radioactivity increases, interest in the field of living radioactivity is also increasing. Since drinking water is an essential element in our daily life, it must be safe from radioactivity. In this study, gamma radiation of drinking spring water was measured and internal exposure dose evaluation was performed to determine its harmfulness. K-40 and uranium-based radioactivity analysis was performed through a high-purity germanium detector, and as a result, drinking water was detected somewhat higher than that of mixing water. Since there is no regulation on the natural radioactivity concentration in Korea, it was compared with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Drinking Water Regulations and World Health Organization standard. As a result, there were some items that exceeded standards. Internal exposure was evaluated according to the effective dose formula of ICRP 119. As the result was derived that a maximum of 1.17 mSv per year could be received. This result means that the dose limit for the general public may be exceeded, and it was judged that it is necessary to set an appropriate standard value and present a recommendation value through continuous monitoring in the future.

Factors associated with low water intake among South Korean adolescents - Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2007-2010

  • Water is essential for life and plain water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages is one approach for decreasing energy intake. Due to limited data on characteristics associated with water intake among Korean adolescents, this study examined associations of demographic and behavioral characteristics with plain water intake by using nationally representative sample of South Korean adolescents. The data (2007-2010 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) for 1,288 high school-aged adolescents (15-18 years) were used. Multivariable logistic regression was used to calculate adjusted odds ratios (OR) for factors associated with low water intake (< 4 cups/day) and very low water intake (< 2.5 cups/day). Nationwide, 38.4% and 19.0% of adolescents reported drinking water < 4.0 cups/day and < 2.5 cups/day, respectively. The mean plain water intake was 5.7 cups/day for males and 4.1 cups/day for females. Females had significantly higher odds for drinking water < 2.5 cups/day (OR = 2.2) than males, whereas adolescents with low milk consumption had significantly lower odds for drinking water < 2.5 cups/day (OR = 0.7). Factors significantly associated with a greater odds for drinking water < 4 cups/daywere being female (OR = 2.8) and not meeting physical activity recommendations (${\geq}20$ min/day on < 3 days/week) (OR = 1.6). Being underweight, overweight, and obese were significantly associated with reduced odds for drinking water < 4 cups/day (OR = 0.7, 0.4 and 0.5, respectively). However, intake of soda, coffee drinks, fruits, vegetables, and sodium and eating out were not significantly associated with low or very low water intake. These findings may be used to target intervention efforts to increase plain water intake as part of a healty lifestyle.

EPANET을 이용한 상수도 관망의 잔류염소 거동 예측 (Chlorine Residual Prediction in Drinking Water Distribution System Using EPANET)

  • In this study, chlorine dose at water storage tank was predicted to meet the recommended guideline for free chlorine residual in drinking water distribution system, using EPANET which is a computer program that performs extended Period simulation of hydraulic and water quality behavior within pressurized pipe networks. The results may be summarized as follows. The decay of chlorine residual by season varied considerably in the following order; in summer ($25^{\circ}C$) > spring and fall (15$^{\circ}C$) > winter (5$^{\circ}C$). For re-chlorination at water storage tank by season, season-varying chlorine dose was required at its maximum of 1.00 mg/l in summer and minimum of 0.40 mg/l in winter as free chlorine residual. The decay of chlorine residual through out the networks increased with water age spent by a parcel of water in the network except for some points with low water demand. In conclusion, the season-varying chlorine dose as well as the monitoring of water quality parameters at the some points which showed high decay of chlorine residual may be necessary to deliver the safe drinking water.

캄보디아 쁘로얍 지역과 랭뜰 지역 거주민의 먹는물 현황 (Status of Drinking Water in Pproyap and Langthle, Cambodia)

  • 캄보디아는 동남아시아 지역에서 대표적인 저개발 국가이다. 수자원의 관점에서 캄보디아는 풍부한 수량을 갖고 있지만, 농촌지역에서는 안전하지 않은 식수와 처리되지 않은 분뇨에 의하여 공중 보건의 문제가 이어지고 있다. 본 연구는 캄보디아 지역에서의 물 원조 프로그램을 위한 신전략수립과 준비를 위해 현지조사, 검토 및 농촌지역에서의 물 오염현황분석, 그리고 해당지역의 물 순환을 분석하였다. 조사 대상지역은 푸르사트주에 있는 쁘로얍과 랭뜰을 조사 대상지로 정하였다. 연구대상 농촌지역의 사람들은 식수전용 웅덩이, 빗물 항아리, 관리되지 않은 우물물 등 지표수에 의존하고 있었다. 분석은 분원성 미생물(TTC)과 일반항목으로 크게 두 가지로 하였으며, 대상지역에서 채수한 시료들을 분석/평가하였다. TTC는 수인성 배설물 오염의 세균 지표인데 26개의 시료중 단 한개만이 WHO가 규정한 TTC 허용한계인 불검출/100 mL의 기준을 충족시켰다.

  • 상수처리시 토양현탁액과 같은 유기물이 있을 때 산화제, 응집제 및 흡착제의 종류를 달리하고 처리방법을 변경시켰을 때 THMs 및 유기물의 제거정도를 조사하였다. 산화제로 처리된 $ClO_2$가 다른 산화제인 $Cl_2,\;NH_2Cl,\;KMnO_2$$O_3$ 보다 THMs 생성억제와 THMs의 전구물질인 유기물을 제거시키는데 가장 효율적이었다. 산화제$(Cl_2,\;NH_2Cl,\;KMnO_4,\;ClO_2,\;O_3)$를 응집 이후에 처리하였을 때 유기물의 양은 거의 변화가 없었으나 THMs의 생성량은 응집 이전 처리보다 약 $36.7{\sim}8.2%$ 정도 감소하였다. 수중 유기물을 응집 제거시키기 위하여 응집제로 alum과 ferric sulfate를 처리하였을 때 응집 효율은 유기물의 분자량 분포에 따라 상이하게 나타났다. THMs 제거 및 생성 억제를 위한 활성탄의 처리는 여과 이후의 처리가 산화제 처리 이전의 활성탄 처리보다 효과적이었다.

국내 주요 정수장의 과불화화합물 분포 및 위해성 평가 (Distribution and Risk Assessment of Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs) in Major Drinking Water Treatment Plants, Korea)

  • The chemical structures of perfluorinated compounds(PFCs) have unique properties such as thermal and chemical stability that make them useful components in a wide variety of consumer and industrial products. Two of these PFCs, perfluorooctane sulfonate(PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA), have received attention and were the most commonly detected. In this study it was analyzed the concentrations of 8 PFCs in samples were collected from drinking water treatment plants for 5 years(2012-2016). PFOS and PFOA were also high concentration and frequency. The mean concentrations of PFOA and PFOS were detected $0.0026-0.0069{\mu}g/L$ and $0.0009-0.0024{\mu}g/L$ in samples from drinking water treatment plants. These were relatively lower or similar compared to PFOS concentrations in Osaka(Japan). In general, these levels are below health-based values set by international authoritative bodies for drinking water. These results will be serve as the first monitoring data for PFCs in drinking water and be useful for characterizing the concentration distribution and management of PFCs in future studies.

Caffeine과 Carbamazepine: 낙동강 수계에서의 검출 및 정수처리 공정에서의 거동 (Caffeine and Carbamazepine: Detection in Nakdong River Basin and Behavior under Drinking Water Treatment Processes)

  • The aims of this study were to investigated the occurrence of caffeine and carbamazepine in Nakdong river basin (8 mainstreams and 2 tributaries) and the behavior of caffeine and carbamazepine under drinking water treatment processes (conventional and advanced processes). The examination results showed that caffeine was detected at all sampling sites (5.4~558.5 ng/L), but carbamazepine was detected at five sampling sites (5.1~79.4 ng/L). The highest concentration level of caffeine and carbamazepine in the mainstream and tributaries in Nakdong river were Goryeong and Jinchun-cheon, respectively. These pharmaceutical products were completely removed when they were subject to conventional plus advanced processes of drinking water treatment processes. Conventional processes of coagulation, sedimentation and sand-filtration were not effective for their removal, while advanced processes of ozonation and biological activated carbon (BAC) filtration were effective. Among these pharmaceuticals, carbamazeoine was more subject to ozonation than caffeine.

시흥정수장 막여과시설 시범운영 (A Demonstrative Operation of A Membrane Filtration System in Siheung Water Treatment Plant)

  • A demonstrative operation of a membrane system with its caparity of 3,600m$^3$/d was carried out using reservoir water as raw water for the application of membrane filtration system to drinking water treatment. The operation was undertaken at a constant flux of 0.9 m$^3$/m$^2$/d for three months. Backwashing with NaClO of 3 ppm was allowed for 30 seconds every 20 minutes of filtration. Physical cleaning was introduced after 69 times of filtration/backwashing cycle with air-scrubbing and backwashing for 1 minute, and flushing for 2 minutes. In this study, water treatment performance was investigated compared with the existing rapid sand filtration process. The membrane system was operated with no significant problems during the test period. Higher water quality was obtained in the membrane filtration than in the rapid sand filtration in terms of particulate matters such as turbidity and microbes. Although the finished water of the membrane filtration contained slightly higher concentration in dissolved matters than that of the conventional one, it met the drinking water standard. The demonstrative operation showed that membrane filtration has a reliability in drinking water treatment. Researches should be needed on cost analysis through long-term operation and optimization of operation condition for further application.
