인장하중을 받는 복합재료 도브테일 요소의 점진적인 파손해석 (Numerical Investigation of the Progressive Failure Behavior of the Composite Dovetail Specimens under a Tensile Load)

  • 본 연구에서는 복합재료 팬 블레이드 도브테일 요소의 인장하중에 따른 점진적 파손거동을 유한요소 시뮬레이션을 통한 수치적 연구를 수행하고, 인장시험을 통하여 정확도를 검증한다. 도브테일 요소는 터보 팬 엔진의 팬 블레이드를 디스크와 결합시키는 조인트의 하나로, 통상 티타늄 등의 금속 재료로 제작되나 경량화 등의 이유로 복합재료의 적용이 연구되고 있다. 하지만 복합재료를 이용한 팬 블레이드 제조과정에서 드롭오프 플라이(Drop-off ply), 수지 포켓(resin pocket) 등의 제조 결함이 필연적으로 발생한다. 이러한 제조 결함이 복합재료 팬 블레이드 도브테일 요소에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 유한요소모델을 이용한 수치해석을 수행하여 예측 결과와 인장시험 결과를 비교 분석한다. 이때 층간분리(delamination) 거동을 모사 가능한 응집영역 모델을 적용하였다. 결론적으로, 열 잔류응력 및 두께방향 압축하중에 의한 계면 물성 강화 효과를 고려하여 유한요소 해석결과와 시험결과 간의 높은 상사성을 얻을 수 있었다.

도브테일 그루브에 장착된 O-링시일의 접촉응력에 관한 연구 (Contact Stress Analysis of an O-ring Seal in a Dovetail Groove)

  • The sealing performance of an elastomeric O-ring seal with a temperature gradient has been analyzed for the contact stress behaviors that develop between the O-ring seal and the housing surfaces with which it comes into contact in the dovetail groove. The leakage of an O-ring seal will occur when the pressure differential across the seal just exceeds the initial peak contact stress. The contact stress behaviors that develop in compressed O-rings, in common case of restrained geometry (grooved), are investigated using the finite element method. The FE analysis includes material hyperelasticity and axisymmetry The computed FEM results show that the contact stress behaviors are related to a compression rate and a temperature gradient between the vacuum chamber with a dovetail groove and the contacting plate with a cooling jacket.

Analysis on mechanical behavior of dovetail mortise-tenon joints with looseness in traditional timber buildings

  • To study the effect of looseness on mechanical behavior of dovetail mortise-tenon joints, five dovetail mortise-tenon joints, including one intact joint and four loose joints, were fabricated and tested under cycle lateral loadings, and non-linear finite element models using the software ABAQUS were also developed. The effects of looseness on stress distribution, rotational stiffness and bearing capacity of joints were studied based on the analysis of test and simulation results. The results indicate that the hysteretic loops are anti-Z-shaped and present typical characteristics of pinching and slippage, the envelop curves of joints are classified as following two stages: elastic and strengthening stage. The peak stress, rotational stiffness and bearing capacity of joints were reduced due to looseness. The moment-rotation theoretical model of intact joint was simplified in terms of the relation of construction dimensions for buildings, and the moment-rotation theoretical model considering the effect of looseness was proposed and validated.

광탄성기법을 이용한 터빈로터 퍼-트리부의 응력해석 (Stress Analysis of Fir-Tree Root in Turbine Rotor Using Photoelastic Technique)

  • The disk/blade assembly of a turbine engine is made in the shape of a dovetail type or a fir-tree type. Since disk fillet regions or contact surfaces undergo high stress comcentration, fatigue cracks frequentrly occur in the disk/blade assembly. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the stress distributions in the fir-tree type disk/balde assembly and predict the region of fatigue failure. The stress distributions of the disk/blade assembly were investigated by using the photoelastic method and the finite element method. Two dimensional photoelastic techniques were used to investigate the stress distributions of contact surfaces and fillet regions. TH stress distributions were obtained by the shear-difference method and were compared to the finite element results. It was found that maximum tensile stresses were higher in the fillet region thatn in the contact surfaces of the fir-tree models. The finite element results showed good agreement with the experimental results.

Large-scale testing and numerical study on an innovative dovetail UHPC joint subjected to negative moment

  • To study the working mechanism and size effect of an innovative dovetail UHPC joint originated from the 5th Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, a large-scale testing subject to negative bending moment was conducted and compared with the previous scaled specimens. The static responses, i.e., the crack pattern, failure mode, ductility and stiffness degradation were analyzed. It was found that the scaled specimens presented similar working stages and working mechanism with the large-scale ones. However, the post-cracking ductility and relative stiffness degradation all decrease with the enlarged length/scale, apart from the relative stiffness after flexural cracking. The slab stiffness at the flexural cracking stage is 90% of the initial stiffness while only 24% of the initial stiffness reserved in the ultimate stage. Finite element model (FEM) was established and compared with the experiments to verify its effectiveness in exploring the working mechanism of the innovative joint. Based on this effective method, a series of FEMs were established to further study the influence of material strength, pre-stressing level and ratio of reinforcement on its deflection-load relationship. It is found that the ratio of reinforcement can significantly improve its load-carrying capacity among the three major-influenced factors.

On the Sealing Characteristics Analysis and Design of Bi-Polymer O-ring Seals

  • The paper deals with a non-linear finite element analysis of the thermomechanical distortions of an elastomeric O-ring seal including a temperature gradient. Axial compression of O-ring seals, as well as the influence of the temperature gradients and various O-ring seal models, are investigated based on the axisymmetric analysis. The highest temperature occurs near the interface of the O-ring between the dovetail groove bottom and the O-ring seal. The calculated FEM results indicate that the composite O-ring with the diametral ratio, 0.8 shows very stable and recommendable compared with other seal models far elevated temperatures and corrosive environments.

  • A design modification was made on the 9-th stage wheel dovetail of a high-intermodiate pressure (HIP) turbine rotor for a fossil power plant that necessitates the use of new long-shank buckets for the row. A bucket vibration test is necessary to verify that the new 9-th stage buckets have adequate frequency margin from a nozzle passing frequency when running at speed. A finite element analysis (FEA) has been performed using a commercial S/W to approximately estimate bucket natural frequencies, and thus to help the vibration test. A row of the new buckets has been assembled on the HIP rotor for the vibration tests using dynamic balancing facilities. The tests have been done during deceleration run with air excitation. The test results are compared with the calculation using our empirical formula, and show that the modified design meets the frequency-margin requirements.

신형상의 합성용 데크플레이트를 사용한 합성슬래브의 구조적 거동에 관한 해석적 연구 (An Analytical Study on the Structural Behavior of the Composite Slab with New-Shaped Deckplate)

  • 본 논문은 신형상의 합성용 데크플레이트 개발에 따른 합성슬래브의 구조적 거동에 관하여 연구한 것이다. 신형상의 데크플레이트가 구조재로서 사용이 되어질 수 있도록 합성슬래브의 실험결과를 국제적인 규준식에 의한 계산결과와 비교 검증하였으며 또한 회귀분석을 통해 합성슬래브의 유효단면2차모멘트식을 제안하였다. 또한 데크플레이트 단면요소의 구조적인 특성에 대한 고찰을 위하여 이것을 변수로 하여 유한요소해석을 실시하였다. 합성슬래브 실험은 새롭게 개발한 두 type의 데크플레이트를 사용하여 36개의 시험체를 제작 실험하였으며, 유한요소해석은 3차원 Solid 모델링이 가능한 ABAQUS 프로그램을 사용하여 해석모델링을 개발, 해석을 실시하여 그 결과를 분석하였다.

  • 회전 상태에 있는 증기 터빈 버킷의 진동 시험 및 해석 결과를 본 논문에 기술하였다. 중고압용 터빈 로터에서 9단 휠 도브테일의 치수 변경으로 인해 9단 버킷의 치수 수정이 불가피하였고, 진동 시험과 해석은 수정된 9단 버킷의 고유 진동수가 노즐 통과 주파수로부터 공진을 피할 수 있는 주파수 분리 여유를 갖는지를 검정하기 위하여 이루어졌다. 해석은 상용 유한 요소 해석 프로그램을 이용하였고 실험 전 설계 변경의 성공 가능성 파악 및 후속 시험에 도움을 주기 위해 행하였다 진동 시험은 기존 밸런싱 설비를 이용해 진공 상태에서 회전하고 있는 버킷에 공기 분사 가진및 무선진동신호 측정 시스템을 이용해 행하였다. 시험 결과를 경험식의 결과와 비교하였고, 수정된 버킷이 제시된 주파수 분리 여유를 만족함을 보였다.
