  • Recently the ground settlement has been increasing in urban area according to development. And, this may attribute a groundwater level drawdown. This study presents an analysis of groundwater level drawdown for circular vertical shaft excavation of 「◯◯◯◯ double track railway build transfer operate project」. And, in-situ monitoring data and numerical analysis were compared. So, if we examine the groundwater level drawdown in design, ground conditions should be applied so that the site situation can be reflected. And, groundwater level should be considered a seasonal measurement in order to apply the appropriate groundwater level. It was confirmed a similar predicted value to groundwater level drawdown of in-situ monitoring data.

  • This study was carried out in order to reduce the amount of underground water which is used in the double layered single span plastic greenhouse for retaining heat. For this research, two plastic green houses of the double layered single span plastic greenhouse were installed. There was equipped of internal small tunnel for keeping warm air in the interior of the house. Then the internal small tunnel for keeping warm air was fitted with PVC duct of 50 cm in diameter filled with subsurface water. The surplus solar energy in the greenhouse was stored in the water in the PVC duct. Four FCUs (Fan Coil Unit), which has the capacity of 8,000 kcal per hour, were installed in the middle of the house, and a circulation motor in heat storage water tank was operated from 10:30 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. in order to circulate water between the water tank and the FCUs. Consequently about 5 degrees celsius could be maintained in the interior of the internal small tunnel for keeping warm air with the external temperature of lower than minus 5 degrees celsius. It appeared that the alteration of an internal temperature of the house was flexible depending on the sunlight during daytime. To prevent the water freezing, mixing antifreezing liquid in the water or operating FCU continuously was needed. Also, in order to use the surplus solar thermal energy on plastic green house of water curtain system efficiently, storing the surplus heat during daytime simultaneously finding a method of using water curtain systematic underground water happened to be important. As a result of this research, when the house's interior temperature is below zero the operation of FCU appeared to be impossible. Considering the amount of water used in the house with water-curtain-heating system is 150~200 ton per day, using the system mentioned in this research showed that reducing the underground water more than 80% in order to maintain the internal temperature as the level of 5 degree celsius at the extreme temperature of minus 5 degrees celsius.

  • When a GTX travels through a deep-level underground tunnel at a speed of 180km/h, ear-discomfort in passengers due to the pressure wave generated could be an issue due to the small cross-sectional area. Therefore, appropriate pressure-tightness values for GTX trains must be secured as a countermeasure. In this paper, a 1D numerical analysis was conducted to determine the pressure-tightness coefficient which allows a pressure change meet the criteria. The pressure transients in a tunnel and in a passenger car are predicted considering an A-line underground tunnel with a length of 37km and its operation schedule. The required pressure-tightness of the car is predicted to be three seconds and 6 seconds respectively for a single track and a double- track tunnel to prevent aural discomfort in passengers. The result of this study are expected to serve as useful information to those involved in the development of various solutions to improve air-tightness of GTX passenger cars.

  • This work presents a comparative study of four Double Gate tunnel FET (DG-TFET) architectures: conventional p-i-n DG-TFET, p-n-p-n DG-TFET, a gate dielectric engineered Heterogate (HG) p-i-n DG-TFET and a new device architecture with the merits of both Hetero Gate and p-n-p-n, i.e. HG p-n-p-n DG-TFET. It has been shown that, the problem of high gate capacitance along with low ON current for a p-i-n TFET, which severely hampers the circuit performance of TFET can be overcome by using a p-n-p-n TFET with a dielectric engineered Hetero-gate architecture (i.e. HG p-n-p-n). P-n-p-n architecture improves the ON current and the heterogeneous dielectric helps in reducing the gate capacitance and suppressing the ambipolar behavior. Moreover, the HG architecture does not degrade the output characteristics, unlike the gate drain underlap architecture, and effectively reduces the gate capacitance.

  • Underground utility tunnel, the most representative cut and cover structure, is subjected to seismic force by displacement of the surrounding soil. In 2020, Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation has published "Seismic Performance Evaluation Guideline for Existing Utility Tunnel." This paper introduces two seismic evaluation methods, RDM (Response Displacement Method) and RHA (Response History Analysis) adopted in the guide and compares the methods for an example of an existing utility tunnel. The test tunnel had been constructed in 1988 and seismic design was not considered. RDM is performed by single and double cosine methods based on the velocity response spectrum at the base rock. RHA is performed by finite difference analysis that is able to consider nonlinear behavior of soil and structure together in two-dimensional plane strain condition. The utility tunnel shows elastic behavior for RDM, but shows plastic hinge for RHA under the collapse prevention level earthquake.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate numerically the effect of building roof shaps on wind flow and pollutant dispersion in a street canyon with one row of trees of pore volume, $P_{vol}=96%$. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is used to evaluate air flow and pollutant dispersion within an urban street canyon using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the Explicit Algebraic Reynolds Stress Models (EARSM) based on k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model to close the equation system. The numerical model is performed with ANSYS-CFX code. Vehicle emissions were simulated as double line sources along the street. The numerical model was validated by the wind tunnel experiment results. Having established this, the wind flow and pollutant dispersion in urban street canyons (with six roof shapes buildings) are simulated. The numerical simulation results agree reasonably with the wind tunnel data. The results obtained in this work, indicate that the flow in 3D domain is more complicated; this complexity is increased with the presence of trees and variability of the roof shapes. The results also indicated that the largest pollutant concentration level for two walls (leeward and windward wall) is observed with the upwind wedge-shaped roof. But the smallest pollutant concentration level is observed with the dome roof-shaped.

  • This study was carried out to find out the possibility of suppressing the root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) of vegetable crops in vinyl house by soil solarization between crop seasons at Suweon in August, 1986. Soils in vinyl house were sterilized by polyethylene film of 0.03 mm thick with and without inner tunnel within a house(single and double layer solarization), and soil temperatures and nematode densities at 5, 15 and 30cm soil depth were recorded. Rootknot nematodes in soil contained in a vinyl bag were completely killed within 48hr at $40^{\circ}C$ in an incubator. With double layer treatment, the highest temperatures were $48.7^{\circ}C$ at 15cm and $45.2^{\circ}C$ at 30cm soil depth when outdoor temperature was $30^{\circ}C$, and the lethal temperature above $40^{\circ}C$ was recorded for 17 days with 7hr per day at 5cm soil depth from Aug 1 to Aug 31. Due to the increased temperature, root-knot nematode densitiy was suprressed 96,74 and 54% with sigle layer solarization and 100,99 and 98% with double layer solarization at 5,15 and 30cm soil depth, respectively. It is concluded that double layer solarization during hot summer will provide a sufficient level of suppresson on root-knot nematodes remnant in the soil of vegetable crops in vinyl house.
