  • Vlasov's hypothesis provides a way to solve the torsional problem with warping torsion of double T-beam section. Not only the warping torsion of the gross section of double T-beam but the torsional resistances of PS tendons and reinforcements have to be considered together in the analysis in which the latter is the restoring roles provided by the upward and downward force components in a geometrical symmetric configuration. It means that the torsional resistances of PS tendons and reinforcements, usually ignored, store the strain energies due to up-downward geometrical changes. Space frame element with 7-degrees of freedom are used for the finite element approximation of the real behaviors. Bimoments and angles of twist obtained from the proposed method show good agreements with those of 3-D. finite element analysis and analytical analysis

  • Progressive failure analysis of steel composite double T-beam is performed to investigate the mechanical effects of steel composite fabricated in the webs of double-T beam to replace concrete placing forms. The analysis is based on nonlinear finite element scheme considering material nonlinearities of concrete, reinforcing bar and PS steel. Four-parameter strength envelope defines the hardening and softening phenomena of concrete with consideration of the various levels of confining pressures. Rankine maximum strength criterion defines the elasto-plasticity of PS steel and reinforcing bar, and Von Mises $J_2$ failure criterion for steel plate which wraps the concrete webs of double T-beam. A 6m long two-span steel composite double T-beam is analyzed and compared with the experimental results.

  • A double cantilever sandwich-beam method has been applied to the evaluation of the frequency dependence of dynamic elastic modulus and material loss factor of EPDM rubbers. The flexural vibration of a double cantilever sandwich-beam specimen with an inserted rubber layer was studied using a finite element simulation in combination with the sine-sweep test. Effects of the rubber layer length on the dynamic characteristics were also investigated: reliable values were measured when the length of the inserted rubber layer was larger than and equal to 50% of the effective specimen length. The values were compared with those obtained by the dynamic mechanical analysis and the simple resonant test. Relationships of the dynamic characteristics of rubbers with frequency could be determined using the least square error method.

  • The effects of a double crack and tip masses on the dynamic behavior of cantilever beams with a moving mass are studied using numerical methods. The cantilever beams are modeled by applying Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The cracked sections are represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting three undamaged beam segments. The influences of the crack, moving mass, and tip mass, and the coupling of these factors on the vibration mode and the frequencies of the double-cracked cantilever beams are determined analytically. The methodology provides a basis for analyzing the dynamic behavior of a beam with an arbitrary number of cracks and a moving mass.

  • In the last ten years, many researchers have studied the vibrations of carbon nanotubes using different beam theories. The nano- and micro-scale systems have wavy shape and there is a demand for a powerful tool to mathematically model waviness of those systems. In accordance with the above mentioned lack for the modeling of the waviness of the curved tiny structure, a novel approach is employed by implementing the Timoshenko-beam model. Owing to the small size of the micro beam, these structures are very appropriate for designing small instruments. The vibrations of double walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) are developed using the Timoshenko-beam model in conjunction with the wave propagation approach under support conditions to calculate the fundamental frequencies of DWCNTs. The frequency influence is observed with different parameters. Vibrations of the double walled carbon nanotubes are investigated in order to find their vibrational modes with frequencies. The aspect ratios and half axial wave mode with small length are investigated. It is calculated that these frequencies and ratios are dependent upon the length scale and aspect ratio.

  • A coupled experimental and numerical study of shear fracture in the edge-notched beam specimens of quasi-brittle materials (concrete-like materials) are carried out using four point bending flexural tests. The crack initiation, propagation and breaking process of beam specimens are experimentally studied by producing the double inclined edge notches with different ligament angles in beams under four point bending. The effects of ligament angles on the shear fracturing path in the bridge areas of the double edge-notched beam specimens are studied. Moreover, the influence of the inclined edge notches on the shear-fracture behavior of double edge-notched beam specimens which represents a practical crack orientation is investigated. The same specimens are numerically simulated by an indirect boundary element method known as displacement discontinuity method. These numerical results are compared with the performed experimental results proving the accuracy and validity of the proposed study.

  • The pseudo spectral method is applied to the free vibration analysis of double-span Timoshenko beams. The analysis is based on the Chebyshev polynomials. Each section of the double-span beam has its own basis functions, and the continuity conditions at the intermediate support as well as the boundary conditions are treated separately as the constraints of the basis functions. Natural frequencies are provided for different thickness-to-length ratios and for different span ratios, which agree with those of Euler-Bernoulli beams when the thickness-to-length ratio is small but deviate considerably as the thickness-to-length ratio grows larger.

  • A novel reconfigurable beam steering antenna using double loops is proposed. The double loop antenna has a superposed beam which is produced by combining the in-phase beam in the inner loop with the out-of-phase beam in the outer loop. Also, the doble loop antenna uses two artificial switches to connect between inner loop and outer loop, and has the beam directions of three separate cases(Case 1, Case 2, Case 3) by changing ON/OFF states of switches. The operation frequency of the antenna is 14.5 GHz, and three maximum beam directions of the antenna are ${\phi}_{max}=0^{\circ}$, ${\theta}_{max}=0^{\circ}$(Case 1), ${\phi}_{max}=230^{\circ}$, ${\theta}_{max}=40^{\circ}$(Case 2) and ${\phi}_{max}=130^{\circ}$, ${\theta}_{max}=40^{\circ}$ (Case 3). The peak gains of each case are 6.5 dBi(Case 1), 7.6 dBi(Case 2) and 7.8 dBi(Case 3). The half power beam width(HPBW) of each case is $86{\sim}104^{\circ}$, and the overall HPBW is $160^{\circ}$.

  • Concrete-filled double skin steel tube (CFDST) beam-columns are widely used in industrial plants, subways, high-rise buildings and arch bridges. The CFDST columns have the same advantages as traditional CFT members. Moreover, they have lighter weight, higher bending stiffness, better cyclic performance, and have higher fire resistance capacities than their CFT counterparts. The scope of this study is to develop finite element models that can predict accepted capacities of double skin concrete-filled tube columns under the combined effect of axial and bending actions. The analysis results were studied to determine the distribution of stresses among the different components and the effect of the concrete core on the outer and inner steel tube. The developed models are first verified against the available experimental data. Accordingly, an extensive parametric study was performed considering different key factors including load eccentricity, slenderness ratio, concrete compressive strength, and steel tube yield strength. The results of the performed parametric study are intended to supplement the experimental research and examine the accuracy of the available design formulas.

  • The increasement in the floor hight may be one of the most significant problem in the use of precast concrete double slab in the multi-story buildings. The modified double-tees including duct space at the ends of slab were considered in this study. The length and thickness of nib of modified double tee was increased to receive the uniform reaction from rectangular beam, while the original PCI dapped one to receive the point load from inverted tee beam to the leg of double tee. Shear tests were performed on the ends of the modified double tees which were designed by strut-tie model. The modified double tees generally show more ductile flexural failure in the long thickened nib. It is concluded that they show superior failure patterns than that of original dapped one with shear failure.
