Dot-Blot Immunoassay of Fasciola gigantica Infection using 27 kDa and Adult Worm Regurge Antigens in Egyptian Patients

  • The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the potential role of the 27-Kilodalton (KDa) antigen versus Fasciola gigantica adult worm regurge antigens in a DOT-Blot assay and to assess this assay as a practical tool for diagnosis fascioliasis in Egyptian patients. Fasciola gigantica antigen of an approximate molecular mass 27- (KDa) was obtained from adult worms by a simple elution SDS-PAGE. A Dot-Blot was developed comparatively to adult worm regurge antigens for the detection of specific antibodies from patients infected with F. gigantica in Egypt. Control sera were obtained from patients with other parasitic infections and healthy volunteers to assess the test and compare between the antigens. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of Dot-Blot using the adult worm regurge were 80%, 90%, 94.1%, and 69.2% respectively, while those using 27-KDa were 100% which confirms the diagnostic potential of this antigen. All patients infected with Fasciola were positive, with cross reactivity reported with Schistosoma mansoni serum samples. This 27-KDa Dot-Blot assay showed to be a promising test which can be used for serodiagnosis of fascioliasis in Egyptian patients especially, those presenting with hepatic disease. It is specific, sensitive and easy to perform method for the rapid diagnosis particularly when more complex laboratory tests are unavailable.

  • We report the seasonal prevalence of the mycoplasmal pneumoniae of swine (MPS) in slaughter pigs from July of 1999 to June of 2000. Gross finding of lung lesion observed and examined by dot-ELISA. In gross finding of lung lesion from 750 pig samples, 465 (62.0%) was MPS, and 129 (17.2%) was single or double infection with actinobacillosis and pasturellosis. However, 156 (20.8%) had no lesion. In seasonal detection, the prevalence was found to be winter (69.5%), autumn (63.5%), summer (60.0%) and spring (54.7%) in orderly frequency. 현대패션에 나타난 도트문양의 표면유형과 특성에 관한 연구 (Study of the Characteristics of Dot Pattern Designs in Modern Fashion)

  • This study analyzed expression types of dot patterns and derived out inherent characteristics to provide fundamental resources for advancement of high value added creative designs. As a result of the study, Firstly, the circular motive was used to form silhouettes or as a symbol of a decoration. Secondly, a simple form and color dot pattern was used to create one side, or a circular shaped accessory was used to be recognized as a construction line or a decoration line. Thirdly, textile printing is mainly used but handicraft and decorative images were used to add vitality through piece technique, embroidery, collage, cut-out, patch work, etc. Fourthly, different circular motives were integrated, partitioned and duplicated for abstract geometrical images. Fifthly, variations were added by mixing different dot patterns that are arranged regularly and irregularly in different sizes and gaps creating compounded designs with handicraft touches, different angles or on top of each other. Sixthly, hybrid images were created with rearrangement of dot patterns and by adding floral shapes, stripes or other abstract and geometrical shapes. Such various and creative attempts construct new formative beauty in fashion design and I believe that it can establish the development of unique images that satisfies the taste of today's consumers.

망점의 크기와 형상이 잉크 전이에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Influence of Dot Geometry on Ink Transfer in Gravure Printing)

  • The pattern shape engraved on the gravure printing roll is one of the most important factors influencing ink transfer. This study focuses on the relations between dot geometry engraved on gravure printing roll and the ink transfer during the gravure printing process. The influence of dot width on printed patterns will be demonstrated. Results reveal that as the width of a dot on the printing roll increases, the ink transfer rate also increases. But over a certain size of width, surface uniformity began to recede. Therefore, proper dot geometry on the printing roll should be decided to guarantee good printing quality according to printing conditions and expected performance of the electronic devices.

양자점 큐비트 기반 양자컴퓨팅의 국외 연구 동향 분석 (Research Trend for Quantum Dot Quantum Computing)

  • Quantum computing is regarded as one of the revolutionary computing technologies, and has attracted considerable attention in various fields, such as finance, chemistry, and medicine. One of the promising candidates to realize fault tolerant quantum computing is quantum dot qubits, due to their expectation of high scalability. In this study, we briefly introduce the international tendencies for quantum dot quantum computing. First, the current status of quantum dot gate operations is summarized. In most systems, over 99% of single qubit gate operation is realized, and controlled-not and controlled-phase gates as 2-qubit entangling gates are demonstrated in quantum dots. Second, several approaches to expand the number of qubits are introduced, such as 1D and 2D arrays and long-range interaction. Finally, the current quantum dot systems are evaluated for conducting quantum computing in terms of their number of qubits and gate accuracies. Quantum dot quantum computing is expected to implement scalable quantum computing. In the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era, quantum computing will expand its applications, enabling upcoming questions such as a fault-tolerant quantum computing architecture and error correction scheme to be addressed.

New Records of Five Ennomine Moths (Lepidoptera: Geometridae; Ennominae) from Korea

  • The subfamily Ennominae is one of the most species-rich taxa of Geometridae that include more than 9,700 species worldwide and over 280 species in South Korea. Herein, we present the first report of five species of Ennominae. Abraxas flavisinuata can be characterized by the white wings, a thick black postmedial line that is medially and dorsally broken with an orange band, large rounded black discal dots on the forewing, and a black dotted postmedial line on the hindwing. Lomographa claripennis can be characterized by the whitish wings, the black undulating postmedial line as well as the minute blackish discal dot on the forewing, and the black undulating postmedial line with a minute black discal dot on the hindwing. Arichanna tetrica can be characterized by the grayish forewings, thick black transverse ante- and postmedial lines, a large blackish discal dot, whitish apical streak on the forewing, and scattered black dots on the whitish hindwing. Apocleora rimosa can be characterized by the brown ground color of the fore- and hindwings, the black slanted ante- and postmedial lines of the forewing, and two black medial lines on the hindwing. Ourapteryx japonica can be characterized by the white wings, the dark brown transverse ante- and postmedial lines with a long discal dot on the forewing, and the dark brownish transverse antemedial line as well as a termen that has a sharp white tail with one large dark reddish dot and one small black dot on the hindwing.

척수손상으로 인한 하반신마비 환자의 최대운동부하시 생리학적 반응 (Physiological Responses to Maximal Exercise Loading in Spinal Cord Injured Paraplegia)

  • The purpose of this study focused how to show physiological responses comparing exercise group and non exercise group for progressive maximal wheelchair ergometer exercise loading in complete paraplegia. It also examined the various factors which would be influenced physiological responses. Sixteen subjects have been investigated in this study, and the subjects are divided into two groups as follows: 1) exercise group (7 subjects) 2) non exercise group (9 subjects). Each test was terminated by physical exhaustion and/or an inability to maintain a flywheel velocity. The results were as follows: 1) No difference was noted in pulmonary function test between two groups. 2) $\dot{v}$ Emax value during maximal exercise was significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). The mean $\dot{v}$ Emax of exercise group was $69.67{\ell}/min$, non exercise group was $41.47{\ell}/min$. 3) $\dot{v}$ $O_2max$(${\ell}/min$) value during maximal exercise was significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). The mean $\dot{v}$ $O_2max$(${\ell}/min$) of exercise group was $1.72{\ell}/min$, non exercise group was $1.15{\ell}/min$. 4) $\dot{v}$ $O_2$ max(ml/kg/min) value during maximal exercise was significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). The mean $\dot{v}$ $O_2max$($ml/kg{\cdot}min$) of exercise group was $25.99ml/kg{\cdot}min$, non exercise group was $18.61{\ell}/min$. 5) Maximal heart rate(HRmax) value during maximal exercise was significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). The mean HRmax of exercise group was 180.43 beats/min, non exercise group was 175.00 beats/min. 6) $\dot{v}\;E/\dot{v}\;O_2$ value during maximal exercise was not significantly different between the groups (p>0.05). The mean $\dot{v}\;E/\dot{v}\;O_2$ of exercise group was $36.36{\ell}/{\ell}\;O_2$, non exercise group was $45.46{\ell}/{\ell}\;O_2$. Considering the results which explore the exercise group with paraplegia has shown the maximal aerobic power compared with non exercise group, regular and consistent physical training is highly assumed as a main factor to improve cardiopulmonary fitness.

The Effect of Graphical Formats on Computer-Based Idea Generation Performance

  • Purpose Since human brains catch images faster than texts or numbers, infographics has been widely used in business in the form of "information dashboard" to enhance the efficiency of decision-making. Groupware, however, has neglected the adoption and use of infographics, in particular, in the idea generation process. Given that an overall performance of groupware-based idea generation is no better than that of the (paper-and-pencil-based) Nominal Group Technique, Jung et al. (2010) adopted the notion of infographics in the form of performance feedback to solve the productivity paradox. With the consistent results, which demonstrate beneficial effects of infographics on performance enhancement, an interesting observation that groups with the bar chart treatment performed better than groups with the dot chart treatment was made. The main purpose of this study was to find if there were a performance consistency between the outcomes from the previous study and the outcomes from the current study. Design/methodology/approach In experiment 1, we employed the same system used in the previous study (i.e., Jung et al., 2010). As individuals' contributions accumulated, the mechanism visually displayed individuals' performances two-dimensionally in the form of a bar chart or a dot chart. Then, we compared the performance outcomes from this study to the outcomes from previous study (i.e., Jung et al., 2010). In experiment 2, we modified the performance graph to test the effect of "playfulness" on performance by converting dots to car images. Then, we compared the performance outcome from experiment 2 to the outcomes from experiment 1. Findings Just like our interesting (and unexpected) finding in Jung et al.'s study (2010), the outcome confirmed a consistent superior performance of a bar chart. This implies that a bar chart is a better choice when stimulating performance with a visual aid in the context of groupware-based idea generation. Although a bar chart was criticized in a way that errors of length-area judgments are 40 ~ 250% greater than those of positional judgments along a common scale, such illusion turned out to be facilitating upward performance comparison better. Regarding Experiment 2, the outcome showed that the revised-dot graph is as good as the bar graph in terms of quantity and quality score of ideas. We attribute the performance enhancement of the resized-dot to the interaction between the motivational characteristic and the situational characteristic of playfulness because individuals in the revised-dot graph treatment performed better than individuals in the dot graph treatment. Given the order of performance (Bar >= Revised Dot > Dot) that the revised-dot treatment performed the same as (or lower than) the bar treatment, an additional research is warranted to reach to a consistent outcome.

DOT 색인을 이용한 효율적인 공간 조인 기법 (An Efficient Spatial Join Method Using DOT Index)

  • 지리정보시스템에서 빈번히 사용되는 공간 조인 연산자의 성능을 보장하기 위해서는 효율적인 색인 기법의 선택이 중요하며, 대표적인 색인 기법으로는 $R^*$-tree를 이용한 방법이 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 DOT(Double Transformation) 공간 색인을 이용한 효율적인 공간 조인 처리 기법을 제시하고 이를 $R^*$-tree를 이용한 공간 조인 처리 기법과 비교한다. DOT 공간 색인 기법은 공간 객체의 MBR 정보를 공간 순서화 곡선을 사용하여 하나의 1차원 값으로 변환한 후 그 값을 검색 키로 갖는 $B^+$-tree 색인 구조를 구성하는 방법으로서, 이를 이용하면 전통적인 데이타베이스의 주 색인을 적용할 수 있다는 중요한 특징을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 공간 객체의 MBR 정보를 하나의 1차원 값으로 변환하기 위해 사용되는 공간 순서화 곡선의 규칙성을 분석함으로써 공간 변환 연산의 횟수를 대폭 감소시킨 효율적인 DOT 색인기반의 공간 조인 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘에서는 반복적으로 수행되는 공간 변환 연산의 횟수를 줄이기 위하여 질의 영역을 공간 순서화 곡선이 연속 운행하는 가능한 최대 크기의 면적으로 분할하는 쿼터 분할 기법을 사용한다. 다양한 분포와 크기를 갖는 데이타 집합을 대상으로 $R^*$-tree를 이용한 공간 조인 처리 기법과의 비교 실험을 수행한 결과 최대 약 3배의 성능 이익을 얻을 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 침구요법은 한국을 비롯한 중국, 일본 등의 아시아권 국가들에서 전통 의학의 주된 치료법으로 사용되어 왔고 최근에는 미국, 독일, 프랑스 등의 서구 여러 국가들에서도 침구요법의 유효성에 관한 연구가 지속적으로 진행되고 있으며 그 결과 세계보건기구에서는 침구요법의 유효성이 이미 검증된 임상영역들을 발표 공인하기에 이르렀다. 한편 의료행위는 사람을 대상으로 하기 때문에 그 자체가 어느 정도의 위험성을 항상 내포하고 있으며 침구 의료행위 또한 예외일 수는 없다. 또한 과거와는 달리 환자들은 의료정보를 취득할 수 있는 기회가 증가하고 있으며 권리의식도 신장되어 최근에는 의료분쟁의 발생이 급증하고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 현재까지 국내에서는 침구시술과 관련한 의료분쟁의 발생 및 그 대책에 관한 연구보고는 실로 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 제반 상황을 배경으로 침구 의료행위로 인한 의료사고를 예방할 수 있는 대책을 강구하기 위한 기초적 연구로서 침구취영, 의학입문, 침구대성 및 의종금감에 수록된 금침혈가에서 제시하고 있는 자침 금지혈들의 시술 위험성을 문헌적으로 규명하고자 하였다.
