  • For the performance assessment of the radioactive waste disposal system (repository), a biosphere model is suggested. This biosphere model is intended to calculate the annual doses to man caused by the contaminated river water for eight pathways and four radionuclides. This model can also be applied to assess the radiological effects of contaminated well water. To account for the uncertainties on the model parameter values, parameter distributions are assigned to these model parameters. Then, Monte Carlo simulation method with Latin Hypercube sampling technique is used. Also, sensitivity analysis is performed by using the Spearman rank correlation coefficients. It is found that these methods are a very useful tool to treat uncertainties and sensitivities on the model parameter values and to analyze the biosphere model. A conversion factor is proposed to calculate the annual dose rate to humans arising from a unit radionuclide concentration in river water. This conversion factor allows for the substitution of the biosphere model in a probabilistic performance assessment computer code by one single variable.

  • The hydrophobic ligand-containing hollow polypropylene (PP) membranes were synthesized by the mutual radiation induced graft copolymerization with glycidylmethacrylate (GMA) onto hollow PP membrane followed by the subsequent functionalization with L-phenylalanine. FT-IR, elemental analysis and UV spectroscopy were utilized to characterize copolymer composition, and degree of grafting, functionalization conversion and ${\gamma}$-globulins adsorption. The degree of grafting on the PP surface increased with the reaction time and total dose of E-beam. In the subsquent functionalization, the amount of L-phenylalanine increased with the increase in the degree of grafting and the degree of conversion was about 30%. The ${\gamma}$-globulins adsorption experiments showed that adsorption capacity had a maximum value at pH 8. The ${\gamma}$-globulins adsorption capacity in the basic pH region was higher than in the acidic pH region.

  • The conventional types of X-ray generators were bulky in physical size and heavy in weight, and the control accuracies of the output voltages were not always satisfactory. The high frequency switching inverter and converter technology on power conversion and control systems have been greatly closed up introducing power semiconductor devices. To decreasing the volume and the weight of high voltage transformer, and to stabilize ripple. In this paper, the newly developed x-ray generator in a low cost using duty modulation PWM inverter. This system verify improved performance by stabilize ripple of X-ray tube voltage and compared the reproducibility, linearity and dose in single phase, three phase and PSU.

  • The effect of ginsenoside (GS) from Panax ginseng on basal and nitro-L-arginine suppressed nitric oxide (NO) production was studied in rat kidney. NO production was determined by conversion to [$^{14C}$]=L-citrulline from [$^{14C}$]-L-arginine both in whole kidney and three renal segments; glomerulus, cortex excluding glomerulus (cortex-) and medulla. Nitro-L-arginine (total dose of 30 mg/kg/3 days, i.p.) significantly reduced NO production in whole kidney, which was prevented by GS pretreatment (30 mg/kg/3 days, i.p.). Relative high dose of GS (120 mg/kg/4 days, i.p..) selectively increased NO production in glomerulus and cortex-. Protein content, on wet weight basis, in cortex- and glomerular DNA content were significantly reduced by GS. Our results confirm the existence of constitutive nitric oxide synthase in kidney and it seems that target nephron segment for volume expansion due to GS'NO-mediated vasodilation and for NO production stimulated by GS is cortex including glomerulus.lus.

  • During the decommissioning of the nuclear facilities, the radioactive gases in pressure vessels may leak due to the demolition operations. The decommissioning site has large space, slow air circulation, and many large nuclear facilities, which increase the difficulty of workers' inhalation exposure assessment. In order to dynamically evaluate the activity distribution of radionuclides and the committed effective dose from inhalation in nuclear decommissioning environment, an inhalation exposure assessment method based on the modified eddy-diffusion model and the inhaled dose conversion factor is proposed in this paper. The method takes into account the influence of building, facilities, exhaust ducts, etc. on the distribution of radioactive gases, and can evaluate the influence of radioactive gases diffusion on workers during the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.

  • Photon-counting detector (PCD) CT is a new CT technology utilizing a direct conversion X-ray detector, where incident X-ray photon energies are directly recorded as electronical signals. The design of the photon-counting detector itself facilitates improvements in spatial resolution (via smaller detector pixel design) and iodine signal (via count weighting) while still permitting multi-energy imaging. PCD-CT can eliminate electronic noise and reduce artifacts due to the use of energy thresholds. Improved dose efficiency is important for low dose CT and pediatric imaging. The ultra-high spatial resolution of PCD-CT design permits lower dose scanning for all body regions and is particularly helpful in identifying important imaging findings in thoracic and musculoskeletal CT. Improved iodine signal may be helpful for low contrast tasks in abdominal imaging. Virtual monoenergetic images and material classification will assist with numerous diagnostic tasks in abdominal, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular imaging. Dual-source PCD-CT permits multi-energy CT images of the heart and coronary arteries at high temporal resolution. In this special review article, we review the clinical benefits of this technology across a wide variety of radiological subspecialties.

  • The current study aimed to evaluate the suitability of polyester resin as an alternative material to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) for computed tomography (CT) dosimetry phantoms using the GEANT4/GATE Monte Carlo simulation platform. Cylindrical phantoms (32 cm diameter) constructed of polyester resin and PMMA were simulated and compared in terms of atomic composition, effective atomic number, electron density, mass density, and photon interaction mechanisms. Weighted CT dose index (CTDIw) values were calculated for each phantom at 80, 110, and 130 kVp tube voltages based on measurements of CTDI100,c and CTDI100,p. Results demonstrated that the physical properties of polyester closely matched those of PMMA, and the polyester phantom displayed equivalent dosimetric behavior to the PMMA phantom at all tube voltages tested. CTDIw values from the polyester phantom were within 1.4 % of the PMMA phantom across all tube voltages. Conversion coefficients were derived to equate polyester CTDIw values to PMMA dose equivalents. This study found that a polyester resin phantom exhibited radiation dosimetry commensurate with the standard PMMA phantom for CT dose assessment. Consequently, polyester resin represents a viable substitute material when PMMA is unavailable for construction of CT dosimetry phantoms.
