Many of the diseases that occur in a life being are either closely related to water, or they occur by loss or deterioration of water metabolism. There are six parts of study on this subject in ${\ulcorner}$Dongeubogam${\lrcorner}$. The parts are, the part of Jinaek the part of Dameum the part of Sobyeon the part of Bujong the part of Changman and the part of Seub. In these parts, it mentions loss of perspiration, abnormal urination, edema, abdominal dropsy, formation of abnormal body fluid and intrusion of dampness into the body and etc as the abnormal water metabolism. Loss of perspiration and urination is a process of eliminating the dampness in the body. Perspiration would be the abnormality of yanghwa[陽化]. Urination would be the loss of eumhwa[陰化]. Eum[飮] is the fluid accumulated in the body that failed to go through the process of Cihwa[氣化]. Dam[痰] is formed when the body fluid is heated by the smoking-fire. Meanwhile, the dampness occurs when the water penetrates into the bones, muscles and joints. Edema and abdominal dropsy are both outcomes of accumulated body fluid. Edema is the liquified body fluid congested on the surface or the peripheral ends of the body. Abdominal dropsy is congestion of fluid, that lost the characteristic of blood due to blood deterioration, in the abdominal part.

This report describes the remedial fields, symptoms, pathology, dosage, prescriptional constitution of 69 studies related to the use of Radix Asari main blended prescriptions from Dongeubogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Radix Asari as a key ingredient. Radix Asari blended prescriptions are utilized for 14 therapeutic purposes, for example, in symptoms of tooth, eye, paralysis, ear-nose, skin infection and carbuncle. In particular, 14.49% of the prescriptions appear in the chapter of tooth, and 10.14% of those appear in the chapter of eye. Prescriptions that utilize Radix Asari as the main ingredient are used in the treatment of dental disease, othalmology, nose and ear disease, throat disease, common cold, dermothology, paralysis, musculoskeletal disease, disease of the head, asthma, genital disease, the injury of the cuts and they are also used for treating 50 different types of diseases. Radix Asari is used in Six pathogenic factors such as wind, wind-cold, wind-heat, wind-dampness heat, wind-dampness, dampness, paralysis, cold-chill, cold, dryness, in visceral pathogenic factors such as stomach, kidney, liver-kidney, liver and in chi-blood pathogenic factors such as chi-blood deficiency, chi-blood stagnation and in extravasated blood pathogenic factors such as impact injury, an injury such as cuts, blood accumulation as well as weakness-cold and parasites. The actual amount of Radix Asari blended has ranged at a wide variety of amounts from 2.5pun(about 0.94gram) to 3don(about 11.25gram). 26.09% of the prescriptions used 1don(about 3.75gram). The function of Radix Asari is to calm down, to get the consciousness back, to bore through, to warm up the meridians and to run it smoothly, to discharge of phlegm from the combination of drugs and prescriptions.

This report describes the remedial fields, symptoms, pathlogy, dosage, prescriptional constitution of 79 studies to the use of Herba Ephedrae main blended prescriptions from dongeubogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Herba Ephedrae as a key ingredient Herba Ephedrae blended prescriptions are utilized for 26 therapeutic purposes, for example, in symptoms of cough, cold, wind. In particular, 20.2% of the prescriptions appear in the chapter of cough. Prescriptions that utilize Herba Ephearae as the main ingredient are used in the treatment of 47 different types of diseases, for example, in the treatment of wind-cold pathogen, cold, wind, exogenous febrile disease etc. Herba Ephedrae is most widely used in six pathogenic factors such as wind, cold, dampness, heat. The actual amount of Herba Ephedrae blended has ranged at a wide variety of amounts from 1 don to 2 don. It is widely applied with base prescriptions such as Mahwang-tang, Samyo-tang, Mahwangbujasesin-tang, Mahwangkanghwal-tang.

This report describes the remedial fields, symptoms, pathology, dosage, prescriptional constitution of 46 studies related to the use of Lignum akebiae main blended prescriptions from Dongeubogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Lignum akebiae as a key ingredient. Lignum akebiae blended prescriptions are utilized 17.4% of prescriptions appear in the chapter of urine. Prescriptions that utilize Lignum akebiae as the main ingredient are used commonly in the treatment of the symptoms of a urine and a cystic disease related to the urinary organs, or the diseases of eye, ear, nose, throat and the symptoms of a tumor, abscess. Lignum akebiae is utilized for an etiological and pathologenic fators related to heat, dampness, phlegm and summer heat such as excessive fever of heart and bladder, fever of small intestine, lower energizer dampness and heat, fever due to blood deficiency, phlegm fire, affection by summer heat and dampness etc. The clinical dosage of Lignum akebiae is 1 don(about 3.75gram), according to symptoms, it has ranged at a wide variety of amounts from 3 pun(about 1.13gram) to 1.5 don(about 11.25gram). Lignum akebiae is widely applied with base prescriptions such as Dozuksan, Moktongchajuntang, Manjunmoktongtang. etc.

This report describes 71 studies related to the use of Radix Saposhnikoviae main blended prescription from Donguibogam. The following conclusion were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Radix Saposhnikoviae as a main ingredient. Prescriptions that Radix Saposhnikoviae was taken as a monarch drug are utilized for 20 therapeutic purposes, for example, eye disease, wind disease, head disease and Sang Han syndromes. In particular, 28.1% of prescriptions appear in the chapter of eye, and 25.3% of those appear in the chapter of head. Prescriptions that utilize Radix Saposhnikoviae as the main ingredient are used in the treatment of eye disease. paralysis and tetanus. Radix Saposhnikoviae is used in pathogenic factors such as wind. wind with cold. and used in pathology related to liver system. The dosage of Radix Saposhnikoviae in prescriptions is 7 li(about 0.26 gram) to 2.5 jeon(about 9.38 gram), however 1 jeon(about 3.75 gram) has been taken the most for clinical application. Bangpungtang is the most useful base prescription which use the Radix Saposhnikoviae as the main ingredient.

Heojun was the top scientist on Medicine in the 16th and 17th centuries and wrote the Dongeubogam describing the top-level medical theory and technology. So far, his outlook on nature has been disregarded even though his medicine is still effective. Through this study, I would like to know if his outlook on nature as well as his medicine is still effective. The conclusions are as follows: 1. According to his output, the origin of the universe started from the spinning of One Gi(一氣) which is quite different from Hawking's theory. Hawking assumed that the origin of the universe started from the Big-bang and will end to the Big-crunch. However, the current report on the origin of a star is quite similar to Heojun's theory and we acknowledge that his view on the origin of the universe is still effective. 2. According to his output, the universe repeats expanding and contracting forever while Hawking assumed it will come to the end, the Big-crunch, based on the expanding universe theory. Some scientists assists that Hawking's assumption should have some contradictions. Now, we acknowledge that Heojun's universal cycling theory which corresponds with modern physical theories is still effective, which would lead to a new environmental movement. 3. His view on the structure of the universe is quite different from the output of the current science, which results from his thought that the nature should be reviewed from the point of human's view. His view on the structure will be able to be updated based on the output of the current science. 4. The universe analogy started from the East Asian area as well as the Greek and Roman area in the ancient. The idea has disappeared since the scientific revolution era in the West while the idea has been deepened and abundant in the East and has become one of the major philosophical bases. Heojun emphasized its importance from the beginning of his book. 5. The nation analogy has been popular all times and places. According to his output, governing a country is like controlling one's body. 6. According to Needham's output, the universe analogy and the nation analogy were based on the ancient developed alchemy. And Harper assumed that Taiosm was based on the macrobiotic hygiene which was developed by the ancient developed alchemists. We acknowledge that xian(仙) cult, macrobiotic hygiene, medicine, alchemy and the ancient philosophy started from our ancients. Heojun's output restored our ancient tradition by combining the macrobiotic hygiene and philosophy with medicine. 7. Roughly predicting yearly weather would be unacceptable by the current scientist but Heojun's yearly weather forecast is still used in the clinic and seems effective to prepare from any epidemic disease. 8. 'Day and Night' and Four seasons are the most important factors to the macrobiotic hygiene according to the Dongeubogam. The new environmental movements should be based on the most important factors, otherwise the human beings as well as the environment would fail to survive. 9. Wind, Coldness, Heat, Humidity, Dryness and Fire represents weather. The six weather factors represent one of six phases of a year which is decided by the areal factors. Heojun preferred the six factors generated in the body itself to them from the outside. He thought a human being was a universe and the six factors generated in the body responded to the factors of the outside. 10. According to his output, Heat and Humidity are the most important factors which make a human being ill. 11. Life span, disease, food, and dwelling are dependent upon the geographical feature, according to Heojun's output. In addition, one's appearance and his five viscera and the six entrails depend on the food as well as the geographical feature. 12. Heath is related with the environment and they effects upon each other. If one is weak, he will be deeply effected by the nature. On the other hand, if one is strong, he will effect on the nature. That's why people live together. 13. According to Heojun's work, the society is an important factor comprising the environment. During a peaceful era, the society becomes stable and human beings are stable as well while they will be on fire during a chaotic era. 14. Medicine deals with human beings who live in the nature, so any medical book cannot be excellent unless it has any description on the nature. Heojun's outlook on the nature turned out to be logical and suitable even from the point of the current view and it is still effective as if his clinical knowledge and technology are still effective. Something unsuitable may be substituted with the output of the current science.
