  • With the spread of the Internet around the world, devices connected to the Internet are gradually increasing. In addition, the number of distributed reflection service attacks (DrDoS), an attack that maliciously requests large responses by deceiving IPs as if the attacker was a victim, using vulnerabilities in application protocols such as DNS, NTP, and CLDAP, is increasing rapidly. It is believed that the security threat of distributed reflection service attacks will not disappear unless ISPs establish appropriate countermeasures to IP Spoofing. Therefore, this paper describes the security threat and response status of distributed reflection service attacks based on IP Spoofing.

  • To enhance network efficiency, content-centric networking (CCN) proposes that intermediated network nodes on a content-delivery path temporally cache transmitted contents. Then if an intermediated node receives a content request message (Interest) for previously cached content, the node directly transmits the cached content as a response message (Data) to requestors and finishes the transmission of the received Interest. Since Interest is performed by intermediated network nodes, it is possible to efficiently transmit contents and to effectively solve a network congestion problem caused around contents sources. For that, CCN utilizes both content store to temporarily cache content and pending Interest table (PIT) to record Interest incoming Face. However, it has mentioned the possibility of denial service attack using both the limitation of PIT resource and fake Interests. In this paper, we briefly describe the presented PIT flooding attack utilizing fake Interest. Then we introduce new attack possibility using fake Data and propose a countermeasure for the proposed attack. Also we evaluate the performance of our proposal.

  • Cyber attacks can be classified by type of cyber war, terrorism and crime etc., depending on the purpose and intent. Those are mobilized the various means and tactics which are like hacking, DDoS, propaganda. The damage caused by cyber attacks can be calculated by a variety of categories. We may identify cyber attackers to pursue trace-back based facts including digital forensics etc. However, recent cyber attacks are trying to induce confusion and deception through the manipulation of digital information or even conceal the attack. Therefore, we need to do the harm-based analysis. In this paper, we analyze the damage caused during cyber attacks from economic and political point of view and by inferring the attack intent could classify types of cyber attacks.

  • Recently, Li and Hwang scheme proposed a biometrics-based remote user authentication scheme using smart card. It is asserted that this scheme has very excellent benefits by the operation cost efficiency based on the smart card, one-way function and biometrics using random numbers. But this scheme cannot provide the properly authentication, especially, it is analyzed as the vulnerable security scheme for Denial-of-Service(DoS) attacks by impersonate attacks. The attacker controls the insecure channel, they can easily fabricate messages to pass the user's or server's authentication, and the malicious attacker can impersonate the user to cheat the server and can impersonate the server to cheat the user without knowing any secret information. This paper proposes the strong improved scheme which can respond to multiple attacks by supplementing the function of integrity check from the server which applied variable authenticator and OSPA without exposing the user's password information. It is supplemented pregnable of disguise attack and mutual authentication of Li and Hwang scheme.

  • To enhance the efficiency of network, content-centric networking (CCN), one of future Internet architectures, allows network nodes to temporally cache transmitted contents and then to directly respond to request messages which are relevant to previously cached contents. Also, since CCN uses a hierarchical content-name, not a host identity like source/destination IP address, for request/response packet routing and CCN request message does not include requester's information for privacy protection, contents-providers/ network nodes can not identify practical requesters sending request messages. So to send back relevant contents, network nodes in CCN records both a request message and its incoming interfaces on Pending Interest Table (PIT). Then the devices refer PIT to return back a response message. If PIT is exhausted, the device can not normally handle request/response messages anymore. Hence, it is needed to detect/react attack to exhaust PIT. Hence, in this paper, we propose improved detection/reaction schemes against attacks to exhaust PIT. In practice, for fine-grained control, this proposal is applied to each incoming interface. Also, we propose the message framework to control attack traffic and evaluate the performance of our proposal.

  • As the number of information asset and their vulnerabilities are increasing, it becomes more difficult for network security administrators to assess security vulnerability of their system and network. There are several researches for vulnerability analysis based on quantitative approach. However, most of them are based on experts' subjective evaluation or they require a lot of manual input for deriving quantitative assessment results. In this paper, we propose HRMS(Hacking and Response Measurement System) for enumerating attack path using automated vulnerability measurement automatically. HRMS can estimate exploitability of systems or applications based on their known vulnerability assessment metric, and enumerate attack path even though system, network and application's information are not fully given for vulnerability assessment. With this proposed method, system administrators can do proactive security vulnerability assessment.

  • Smart home system are being installed in the most new construction of building for the convenience of living life. As smart home systems are becoming more common and their diffusion rates are faster, hacker's attack for the smart home system will be increased. In this paper, Risk level of smart home's to do respond to intrusion that occurred from the wired network and wireless network intrusion cases and attacks can occur in a virtual situation created scenarios to build a database. This is based on the smart home users vulnerable to security to know finding illegal intrusion traffic in real-time and attack prevent was designed the intrusion detection algorithm.

  • In 2004, Das et al. proposed a scheme for preserving a user anonymity. However, In 2005, Chien and Chen pointed out that Das et al. scheme fail to protect the user anonymity, and proposed a new scheme. And then in 2007, Hu et al. pointed out that Chien and Chen scheme also has some problems; it is Strong masquerading server/user attack, Restricted replay attack, Denial of service attack. it also slow wrong password detection, and proposed a new scheme. In 2008, Bindu et al. repeatedly pointed out on Chien and Chen scheme and proposed their scheme. However, we point out that all of their scheme also has some problems; it is not to protect the user anonymity and Denial of service attack. In addition, Bindu et al. is vulnerable to Strong masquerading server/user attack. Therefore, we demonstrate that their scheme also have some problems; it is the user anonymity and denial of service attack as above.

  • The GOOSE(Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) is used as a network protocol to communicate between IEDs(Intelligent Electronic Devices) in international standard IEC 61850 of substation automation system. Nevertheless, the GOOSE protocol is facing many similar threats used in TCP/IP protocol due to ethernet-based operation. In this paper, we develop a IDS(Intrusion Detection System) for secure GOOSE Protocol using open software-based IDS Snort. In this IDS, two security functions for keyword search and DoS attack detection are implemented through improvement of decoding and preprocessing component modules. And we also implement the GOOSE IDS and verify its accuracy using GOOSE packet generation and communication experiment.

  • Recently, Jaiswal et al. proposed a protocol to improve the multi-agent negotiation test-bed which was proposed by Collins et al. Using publish/subscribe system, time-release cryptography and anonymous communication, their protocol gives an improvement on the old one. However, it is shown that the protocol also has some security weaknesses: such as replay data attack and DOS (denial-of-service) attack, anonymity disclosure, collusion between customers and a certain supplier. So proposed protocol reduces DOS attack and avoids replay data attack by providing ticket token and deal sequence number to the supplier. And it is proved that the way that market generates random number to the supplier is better than the supplier do by himself in guaranteeing anonymity. Market publishes interpolating polynomial for sharing the determination process data. It avoids collusion between customer and a certain supplie
