  • In high-capacity disk drives with ever-growing track density, the allowable level of position error signal (PES) is becoming smaller and smaller. A substantial portion of the PES is caused by disk vibration. This can be reduced by using a head gimbal assemblies (HGAs) that do not confine the slider movement to the vertical direction to disks, but allow movement to the radial direction of disks with respect to disk vibration. Several types of HGAs are proposed for such radial motion of the slider. Experimental results show that the PES levels are reduced by the proposed HGA-design concepts.

  • It was reported recently that railpads can be included as a continuous elastic support of the rail and the model was justified from experiments. In general, however, railpads are installed discretely on sleepers with a regular span. The effect of the discrete railpad was not clearly examined so far in such a high frequency range. In this paper, the effect of the railpads in track modelling for high frequencies is investigated by means of the finite element analysis. To do that, the railpads are regarded as 'a continuous elastic support' and 'a discrete elastic support' in this paper. The dispersion relations and decaying features are predicted and compared between the two models up to 80 kHz.

  • We have been developed an intelligent mobile robot with an artificial olfactory function to recognize odours and to track odour source location. This mobile robot also has been installed an engine for speech recognition and synthesis, and is controlled by wireless communication. An artificial olfactory system based on array of 7 gas sensors has been installed in the mobile robot for odour recognition, and 11 gas sensors also are located in the bottom of robot to track odour sources. 3 optical sensors are also included in the intelligent mobile robot, which is driven by 2 D.C. motors, for clash avoidance in a way of direction toward an odour source. Throughout the experimental trails, it is confirmed that the intelligent mobile robot is capable of not only the odour recognition using artificial neural network algorithm, but also the tracking odour source using the step-by-step approach method ...

  • In this paper, we propose and assess the performance of "H infinity filter ($H_{\infty}$, HIF)" and "cost reference particle filter (CRPF)" in the problem of tracking a target based on the measurements of the range and the bearing of the target. HIF and CRPF have the common advantageous feature that we do not need to know the noise statistics of the problem in their applications. The performance of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) is also compared with that of the proposed filters, but the noise information is perfectly known for the applications of the EKF. Simulation results show that CRPF outperforms HIF, and is more robust because the tracking of HIF diverges sometimes, particularly when the target track is highly nonlinear. Interestingly, when the tracking of HIF diverges, the tracking of the EKF also tends to deviate significantly from the true track for the same target track. Therefore, CRPF is very effective and appropriate approach to the problems of highly nonlinear model, especially when the noise statistics are unknown. Nonetheless, HIF also can be applied to the problem of timevarying state estimation as the EKF, particularly for the case when the noise statistcs are unknown. This paper provides a good example of how to apply CRPF and HIF to the estimation of dynamically varying and nonlinearly modeled states with unknown noise statistics.

  • Nowadays, double-system of TFM(Track-side Functional Modules) developed instead of single-system in use of high speed line to acquisition more availability. Safety Law for Railroad recommend to quality certification of development and general railway machines. It is important to select metrics which form the bases for testing software products. A number of package software development part do not open source cords, so testing external characteristic vectors having relationship with metrics. In this paper, review the process for the TFM Point Modules, Universal Modules and Switchers, think about the test methode of circuit boards output performance by using TFM tester and Simulators.

  • Obstacle limitation surfaces are imaginary space surfaces that must be clear of obstacles for the aircraft to safely take off and land on the aerodrome. These surfaces are closely related to the safety of the VFR aircraft, which require a pilot to be able to see outside the cockpit, to control the aircraft's altitude, navigate, and avoid obstacles and other aircraft. The Republic of Korea, which has a lot of restrictions on the use of airspace, cannot provide a rich operating environment for VFR aircraft. Under these circumstances, safer operation will not be guaranteed if additional factors that directly or indirectly affect existing VFR routes, such as drone delivery services. This study analyzes and models the track distribution of each VFR section based on radar track data around a specific airport. Through this study, we estimate the three-dimensional space for VFR aircraft and provide the data for future research such as airspace analysis of VFR corridors and correlation with obstacle limitation surfaces.

  • Landslides triggered by rainfall produce severe effects on the serviceability and stability of railway. Since small amount of soil mass slipped on the rail can cause derailment which will induce great danger on people and trains, slope stability problem is one of the major concerns on the operation of railway In this study we investigated the characteristics of rainfall driven landslide near railway. A total of 23 sites were visited. Four different types of slope failure were classified based upon the morphology of the slipped slope triggered by rainfall. From the analysis dimensions of slopes (height, length and slope) do not show particular correlation with the types of landslides. In addition, morphological and geological features of slope influence the occurrence of different types of landslides.

  • When a ballast track of a high-speed train is constructed on a bridge, the displacement of the bridge decks can occur because they are not fixed to the rails. Moreover, relative displacements occur between the bridge and rails caused by temperature changes and external loads. The current longitudinal resistance criteria (UIC Code 774-3, KR C-08080) on ballast tracks with continuous welded rails (CWRs) do not take into account the longitudinal movement of the bridge and the frictional force between the ballast and slabs. In addition, the magnitude of the longitudinal resistance, k, is calculated somewhat conservatively and, (therefore?) it acts as an unfavorable element in the design of long span and continuous railway bridges. Thus, in order to replicate the actual behavior more effectively, the longitudinal resistance of CWRs should take into account the additional rigidity between the slab and track. In this study, the longitudinal resistances of the ballasted track on the bridge were analyzed by carrying out an experimental study with a test setup designed to simulate the deck and bed track. In the test results, the maximum longitudinal resistances of the tests were similar to the resistances of the current codes, however, the measured longitudinal stiffness designed to limit the displacement of the tests were much smaller in comparison with the longitudinal stiffness on the codes.

  • Abstract Tilting train has been developed to increase the oprational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are tilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant, so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper developed PDM(product data management) to make a system engineering of TTX(Tilting Train eXpress) with maximum operation speed 180 km/h.
