This paper tried to derive a GIS curriculum in geography and the estimation of the number of faculty members to teach GIS. To do this, geography departments of universities in Korea and the United States were compared based on the number of faculty members and the main structure of a GIS curriculum. Five universities of NCGIA and UCGIS in the United States and 27 universities in Korea were selected, and their GIS programs were analyzed on GIS curricula, the size of faculty, and program management. The US geography programs typically provide both GIS majors and GIS certificate programs, but Korean geography programs do not. At least, seven GIS courses(21 credits) are required for fulfillment of major degrees in the U.S., but only two courses(6 credits) are required in Korean geography programs. As far as the size of GIS faculty, it averages less than 25% of entire geography faculty in Korean universities, while it takes up about 31% in the U.S.. In this paper, the establishment of 19 GIS courses was suggested as a GIS curriculum for partial fulfillment of a geography major, and two GIS faculty members were recommended to maintain a stable GIS program of geography departments. The enhancement of GIS curricula and faculty size can provide geography graduates with more opportunities for employment and better react to diverse GIS-related public demands, which are important for the successful future of geography programs.

Overlay network eliminates the need to change the application-layer tree when the underlying network changes and enables the overlay network to survive in environments where nonmember nodes do not support multicast functionality. An overlay protocol monitors group dynamics, while underlying unicast protocols track network dynamics, resulting in more stable protocol operation and low control overhead even in a highly dynamic environment. But, if overlay multicast protocols does not know the location information of node, this makes it very difficult to build an efficient multicasting tree. So, we propose a Hierarchical Overlay Multicast Architecture (HOMA) with the location information. Because proposed architecture makes static region-based dynamic group by multicast members, it is 2-tired overlay multicasts of application layer that higher layer forms overlay multicast network between members that represent group, and support multicast between multicast members belonging to region at lower layer. This use GPS, take advantage of geographical region, and realizes a region-sensitive higher layer overlay multicast tree which is impervious to the movements of nodes. The simulation results show that our approach solves the efficiency problem effectively.

In this paper, TMC (Tracker Motion Controller) as one of the many research methods for condensing efficiency improvements can be condensed into efficient solar system configuration to improve the power generation efficiency of the castle with Concentrated solar silicon and photovoltaic systems (CPV)experiments using PV systems. Microprocessor used on the solar system, tracing the development of solar altitude and latitude of each is calculated in real time. Also accept the value from the sensor, motor control and communication with the central control system by calculating the value of the current position of the sun, there is a growing burden on the applicability. Through the way the program is appropriate for solar power systems and sensors hybrid-type algorithm was implemented in the ARM core with built-in TMC, Concentrated CPV system compared to the existing PV systems, through the implementation of the TMC in the country's power generation efficiency compared and analyzed. Sensor method using existing experimental results Concentrated solar power systems to communicate the value of GPS location tracking method hybrid solar horizons in the coordinate system of the sun's azimuth and elevation angles calculated by the program in the calculations of astronomy through experimental resultslook clear day at high solar irradiation were shown to have a large difference. Stopped after a certain period of time, the sun appears in the blind spot of the sensor, the sensor error that can occur from climate change, however, do not have a cloudy and clear day solar radiation sensor does not keep track of the position of the sun, rather than the sensor of excellence could be found. It is expected that research is constantly needed for the system with ongoing research for development of solar cell efficiency increases to reduce the production cost of power generation, high efficiency condensing type according to the change of climate with the optimal development of the ability TMC.
There often is information asymmetry between start-ups and the investors, which is because start-up companies in the early stages do not have track records. Meanwhile, since the government grants programs go through a fair and the intense competition process, the government grants can provide a more objective information for start-ups in the early stages and perform a signal function that guarantees a company's capabilities and potential. This study confirms the quantitative relationship between government grants and investment attraction by using the hurdler model. We found that, although there is the proportionate relationship between the scale of government grants and that of external funds, more than a certain amount of government grants is required for technology-based start-ups to exceed the stage of attracting their first external funds. Our findings suggest that it is necessary to consider the hurdles structure in the study of signaling theory perspective, as the mechanisms for determining whether or not to attract external funds are different from determining the level of external funds. In addition, differentiated policy support is needed to help early-stage technology start-ups go beyond the threshold of investment attraction-the creation of a 'threshold effect'.
Purpose: For now, cognitive load is assessed based on survey-based methods, which can be difficult to track the amount of cognitive load in real-time. In this study, we investigated the difference in electrophysiological activation due to different levels of cognitive load not only at sensor-level but also at source-level using electroencephalogram that might be potentially used for quantitative cognitive load evaluation. Materials and Methods: In this study, ten healthy subjects (mean age 24.3 ± 2.1, three female) participated the experiment. All participants performed 4 sessions of n-back task in different difficulties: 0-, 1-, 2-, and 3-back during electroencephalogram recording. For sensor-level analysis, we calculated the event-related potential and event-related spectral perturbation while low resolution brain electromagnetic tomography (LORETA) to estimate the source activation. Each result was compared between different workload conditions using statistical analysis. Results: Statistical results revealed that the accuracy of the task performance was significantly different between different cognitive loads (p = 0.018). The post-hoc analysis confirmed that the accuracy of the 3-back task was significantly decreased compared to 1-back condition (p = 0.018), but not with 2-back condition (p = 0.180). ERP results showed that P300 target amplitude between 1-back and 3-back had a marginal difference in Cz (p = 0.059) and Pz(p = 0.093). A significant inhibition in Cz high-beta activation (p = 0.017) and decrease in source activation of right parahippocampal gyrus was found in 3-back condition compared to 1-back condition (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In this study, we compared the sensor- and source-level differences in electroencephalogram between different levels of cognitive load, that were found to be in line with the previous reports related to cognitive load evaluation. We expect that the outcome of the current study can be used as a feature to establish a quantitative cognitive load assessment system.
Northeast Asia including China, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, DPRK and ROK, is a geographically close region that falls under the same environmental influence. Recently the region is not only facing serious domestic environmental problems with rapid economic growth, but also confronted with transboundary environmental problems and associated conflicts between countries. Unfortunately, Northeast Asia lacks a solid environmental management system among countries to deal with transboundary and other environmental issues. Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment (TEIA) can, therefore, be one of the essential systematic measures in which environmental problems between countries would be negotiated. However, it would be necessary to have an indepth discussion of what we have to do first for implementing TEIA system in the region, and how to operate it while customizing each Northeast Asian country with different EIA system and socioeconomic circumstance. All these cannot be decided in a short time, and we need to invest enough time for discussing and considering them from various aspects. Recently, the Korean government declared "Eurasia Initiative". The initiative proposes important developing projects and ultimately plans to build a peaceful community throughout Eurasia based on comprehensive cooperation. The initiative aims to increase exchanges in transportation, energy and agricultural sectors to achieve the goals. In this regard, implementing TEIA in Northeast Asia is urgently needed and we have to prepare the strategy for introducing TEIA mechanism. Based on the results of 10 year experience on TEIA projects conducted since 2004, we suggest double-track approaches for developing TEIA mechanism. We continuously need to make an effort to establish a regional TEIA mechanism that all countries legally join, and simultaneously we also have to prepare a process to carry out TEIA for upcoming projects based on bi- or multi-lateral agreements. Practical solutions such as conducting pilot TEIA with relevant countries and developing TEIA guideline for the region could be the first step.
This study aims to identify the impacts of air quality in the Korean Peninsula according to the China's environmental policies in preparation of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The measurement of emission variations in China, aircraft measurement, and modelling were carried out. The reduction measures in Beijing, China and its emission changes resulted in $30{\sim}65%$ in decrease out of the total emissions within the Beijing region, whereas when it comes to the whole nation of China, the reduction rate was about $4{\sim}9%$. Comparing the concentration of the air pollutants in Seoul and Ganghwa in August 2008 during around the period of Beijing Olympic Games with one in $2004{\sim}2007$ showed that the $SO_2$ concentrations in the past was above 5ppb, while the concentration in the 2008 olympic period was 4ppb and below. The NOx at the Seokmori site in Ganghwa tended to be lower in concentration in 2008 than in between $2004{\sim}2007$. As for $O_3$ and $PM_{2.5}$, the concentration tended to be rather low since August 11. The air current track that showed during the period of aircraft measurement presented to be flowed into Korea through the Northeast part of China and the coast of Bohai Bay, while the concentrations of $SO_2$. NOx, and $O_3$ over the west sea on August 20 and 24 were 0.54 (0.28ppb), 0.86 (1.84ppb), and 54.0 (41.5ppb) respectively, similar or lower than the ones measured in the past in the similar current patterns. The modelling result showed similar patterns to the data of aircraft measurement, in particular in $SO_2$. Overall, the reduction measures in Beijing, China affected directly and indirectly the air quality in the Korean peninsular, but the impact was not significant as it was momentary and limited to the intended area.
Safety accidents in railway work continue to increase every year; Engineer's negligence, trackside worker's sensory deprivation and signalman's mistake are the main reasons of such incidents. We consider this problem by far the most urgent matter in railway work because of its steady increase and risk of taking a person's life. Based on that account, a new alarm system has developed, that is called Railway Access Alarm System, to allow railway workers to sense the access of trains with not only vision, but also hearing. The detector device of this system is installed on both sides of the track locating 1.5km from the workplace. When the train enters the place, the detector device can sense the entering, sending the detect sign of train to the alarm unit, then the alarm unit warns the workers by the LED lighting and sirens. This system has several advantages compared to previous systems. First, it recognizes the train at a long distance. Secondly, there is no need for wiring work since it is a wireless system. At last, the system works by rechargeable batteries and solar charger so that it is installed in the work places where there is no external power supply. Moreover, it is proven that the system is 100% reliable by the successful on-the spot inspection evaluating the capability.
Improved procedures were implemented in the production of the lithospheric magnetic anomaly map from Magsat satellite magnetometer data of East Asia between $90^{\circ}E-150^{\circ}E$ and $10^{\circ}S-50^{\circ}N$. Procedures included more effective selection of the do·it and dawn tracks, ring current correction, and separation of core field and external field effects. External field reductions included an ionospheric correction and pass-by-pass correlation analysis. Track-line noise effects were reduced by spectral reconstruction of the dusk and dawn data sets. The total field magnetic anomalies were differentially-reduced-to-the-pole to minimize distortion s between satellite magnetic anomalies and their geological sources caused by corefield variations over the study area. Aeromagnetic anomalies were correlated with Magsat magnetic anomalies at the satellite altitude to test the lithospheric veracity of anomalies in these two data sets. The aeromagnetic anomalies were low-pass filtered to eliminate high frequency components that may not be shown at the satellite altitude. Although the two maps have a low CC of 0.243, there are many features that are directly correlated (peak-to-peak and trough-to-trough). The low CC between the two maps was generated by the combination of directly- and inversely-correlative anomaly features between them. It is very difficult to discriminate directly, inversely, and nully correlative features in these two anomaly maps because features are complicatedly correlated due to the depth and superposition of the anomaly sources. In general, the lithospheric magnetic components were recovered successfully from satellite magnetometer observations and correlated well with aeromagnetic anomalies in the study area.
Queries for tracing tag locations are among the most challenging requirements in RFID based applications, including automated manufacturing, inventory tracking and supply chain management. For efficient query processing, a previous study proposed the index scheme for storing tag objects, based on the moving object index, in 3-dimensional domain with the axes being the tag identifier, the reader identifier, and the time. In a different way of a moving object index, the ranges of coordinates for each domain are quite different so that the distribution of query regions is skewed to the reader identifier domain. Previous indexes for tags, however, do not consider the skewed distribution for query regions. This results in producing many overlaps between index nodes and query regions and then causes the problem of traversing many index nodes. To solve this problem, we propose a new disproportional insertion and split policy of the index for RFID tags which is based on the R*-tree. For efficient insertion of tag data, our method derives the weighted margin for each node by using weights of each axis and margin of nodes. Based the weighted margin, we can choose the subtree and the split method in order to insert tag data with the minimum cost. Proposed insertion method also reduces the cost of region query by reducing overlapped area of query region and MBRs. Our experiments show that the index based on the proposed insertion and split method considerably improves the performance of queries than the index based on the previous methods.
