  • If there are metals located in the X-ray scanned object, a point outside the metals has its range of projection angle at which projections passing through the point are disturbed by the metals. Roughly speaking, this implies that attenuation information at the point is missing in the blocked projection range. So conventional projection completion MAR algorithms to use the undisturbed projection data on the boundary of the metaltrace is less efficient in reconstructing the attenuation coefficient in detailed parts, in particular, near the metal region. In order to overcome this problem, we propose the algebraic correction technique (ACT) to utilize a pre-reconstructed interim image of the attenuation coefficient outside the metal region which is obtained by solving a linear system designed to reduce computational costs. The reconstructed interim image of the attenuation coefficient is used as prior information for MAR. Numerical simulations support that the proposed correction technique shows better performance than conventional inpainting techniques such as the total variation and the harmonic inpainting.

  • Assume fluid eddy viscosity in the vertical direction is parabolic. Sediment particles diffuse with the given fluid eddy viscosity. However, when the vertical diffusion coefficient profile is computed from the suspended sediment concentration profile, the coefficient shows lager values than the fluid mixing coefficient values. This trend was explained by using two sizes of sediment particles. When fine sediment particles like wash load are added in water column the sediment mixing coefficient looks much larger than the fluid mixing coefficient.

  • Available ecological and fishery data of sailfin sandfish, Arctoscopus japonicus, was examined to ascertain its population dynamic parameters in Korean waters. The instantaneous coefficient of total mortality (Z) was estimated to be 1.361/yr, and annual survival rate (S) was 0.256. The estimated instantaneous coefficient of natural mortality (M) was 0.482/yr, and the instantaneous coefficient of fishing mortality (F) for recent years was calculated to be 0.879/yr from Z and M values. Age at first capture was estimated to be 1.958 years. These parameters, in conjunction with catch landings data between 1991 and 2008, were used to estimate annual biomass using a biomass-based cohort analysis. The biomass of A. japonicus was estimated at approximately 7,600 mt in 1991, but since 1994 decreased to below 4,000 mt by 2001. After 2002 they started to increase gradually, and showed the level of more than 5,000 mt in recent years.

  • Air side heat transfer and pressure drop for f 9.52 fin-tube heat exchanger with various types of slit and louver fins were measured, and compared with wave-slit fin. Longitudinal and transverse tube spacings of the heat exchangers are 21.65 mm and 25mm respectively. Actual heat exchanger was tested using water, and the tests were performed for 2 row heat exchangers with 3 different fin spacings, 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7 mm. The overall performance of the enhanced fins was evaluated by comparing heat transfer coefficient with respect to fan power

  • To derive easily the coefficient of permeability from several other soil properties, the estimation model of coefficient of permeability was proposed using linear regression analysis. The coefficient of permeability is one of the major factors to evaluate the soil characteristics. The study area is located in Kangwon-do Pyeongchang-gun Jinbu-Myeon. Soil samples of 45 spots were taken from the study area and various soil tests were carried out in laboratory. After selecting the soil factor influenced by the coefficient of permeability through the correlation analysis, the estimation model of coefficient of permeability was developed using the linear regression analysis between the selected soil factor and the coefficient of permeability from permeability test. Also, the estimation model of coefficient of permeability was compared with the results from permeability test and empirical equation, and the suitability of proposed model was proved. As the result of correlation analysis between various soil factors and the coefficient of permeability using SPSS(statistical package for the social sciences), the largest influence factor of coefficient of permeability were the effective grain size, porosity and dry unit weight. The coefficient of permeability calculated from the proposed model was similar to that resulted from permeability test. Therefore, the proposed model can be used in case of estimating the coefficient of permeability at the same soil condition like study area.

  • A pot experiment on the Sr-90 uptake by the barley from a loamy-sandy soil of pH 6.05 treated with Sr-90 and slaked lime was carried out in a green house. The rate of Sr-90 uptake at maturity was, on an average, 0.41% for a naked barley Neolssalbori and 0.23% for a covered one Olbori. Transfer coefficients of Sr-90 for the former were higher than those for the latter by about 30-60% depending on the plant parts. There were, on the whole, not significant differences in the rate and in the coefficient among Sr-90 concentration treatments. Slaked lime addition equivalent to about 94kg/10a was not effective for lessening Sr-90 uptake or diminishing Sr-90 transfer coefficient. As transfer coefficients, 1.51, 4.45, 0.35, and 1.30, on the dry weight basis, could be proposed for the stem, leaf, seed, and whole top of the barley, respectively. Growth inhibition or yield decrease due to Sr-90 uptake was not observed.

  • The n -octanol/water partition coefficient (Pow) is one of the most important parameters employed for estimating a chemiral's environmental fate and toxicity. The shake-flask method, one direct experimental method, i.1 prone to experimental artifacts for highly hydrophobic compounds. Thus, a valid method for direct determination of the Pow of highly hydrophobic compounds is needed. The slow -stirring method has been demonstrated to provide reliable log Pow data to log Pow greater than 5. This study was performed to evaluate the accuracy of slow- stirring experiment for determination of log Pow, particularly for highly hydrophobic compounds. 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorobenzene, hexachlorobezene, 2, 2', 3, 3', 5, 5', 6, 6'-octachlorobiphenyl, decachlorobiphenyl, and p, p'-DDT (4.5$\times$0.02, 5.41$\times$0.06, 7.26$\times$0.04, 7.87$\times$0.10, and 6.03$\times$0.06, respectively. The octanol/water partition coefficient by the slow-stirring method were very similar to the literature values. These results indicate that the slow- stirring method allows for reliable determination of log Pow of highly hydrophobic chemicals.

  • This study researched the population of ecological characteristics of the goldeyes rockfish Sebasetes thompsoni sampled by gill net in the Ulleungdo area from February 2013 to February 2014 in order to assess the current stock status and provide scientific advice for management implementation. The instantaneous coefficient of total mortality (Z) was 0.78/year and the survival rate (S) was 0.459. The instantaneous coefficient of natural mortality (M) was 0.461/year. Based on the estimates of Z and M, the instantaneous coefficient of fishing mortality (F) was 0.318/year. The age at first capture ($t_c$) was 4.41/years. Current Yield-per-recruit (YPR) was 30.83 g, and fishing mortality at maximum YPR ($F_{max}$) and fishing mortality corresponding to 10% of the maximum slope in YPR curve ($F_{0.1}$) were 3.257/year and 0.673/year, respectively. $F_{35%}$ and $F_{40%}$, indicating fishing mortalities at 35% and 40% of maximum Spawning biomass-per-recruit (SBPR), were 0.619/year and 0.509/year, respectively. Based on the biological reference points, fishing mortality at overfished threshold yield ($F_{OTY}$) was calculated as 0.509/year. Current $SBPR/SBPR_{MSY}$ was 1.313 above 1.0, which means 'not overfishe,' while current $F/F_{OTY}$ was 0.629 below 1.0, which indicates 'not overfishing.' In conclusion, the current status of goldeyes rockfish was located in green zone (i.e., not overfished and not overfishing) according to the revised Kobe plot.

  • In this study, an experimental study was performed to understand the boiling heat transfer characteristics of FC-72 in parallel micro-channels. The parallel micro-channels contained channels having a $0.2mm{\times}0.45mm$ [$H{\times}W$] cross section and length of 60 mm. And heat flux was varied from 16.4 to $25.6kW/m^2$ and mass fluxes from 300 to $500kg/m^2s$. The measured heat transfer coefficient was sharply decreased at lower vapor quality and then it was kept approximately constant as the vapor quality is increased. From the experimental results, the boiling heat transfer mechanism of FC-72 was confirmed and the measured heat transfer coefficient was compared and analyzed with the existing correlations to predict the heat transfer coefficient.
