In these days, researches about underwater robots have been actively in progress for the purposes of ocean detection and resource exploration. Unlike general underwater robots such as ROV(Remotely Operated Vehicle) and AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) which have propellers, an articulated underwater robot which is called Crabster has been being developed in KORDI(Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute) with many cooperation organizations since 2010. The robot is expected to be able to walk and swim under the sea with its legs. Among many researching fields of this project, we are focusing on a swimming section. In order to find effective swimming locomotion for the robot, we approached this subject in terms of Biomimetics. As a model of optimized swimming organism in nature, diving beetles were chosen. In the paper, swimming motions of diving beetles were analyzed in viewpoint of robotics for applying them into the swimming motion of the robot. After modeling the kinematics of diving beetle through robotics engineering technique, we obtained swimming patterns of the one of living diving beetles, and then compared them with calculated optimal swimming patterns of a robot leg. As the first trial to compare the locomotion data of legs of the diving beetle with a robot leg, we have sorted two representative swimming patterns such as forwarding and turning. Experimental environment has been set up to get the motion data of diving beetles. The experimental equipment consists of a transparent aquarium and a high speed camera. Various swimming motions of diving beetles were recorded with the camera. After classifying swimming patterns of the diving beetle, we can get angular data of each joint on hind legs by image processing software, Image J. The data were applied to an optimized algorithm for swimming of a robot leg which was designed by robotics engineering technique. Through this procedure, simulated results which show trajectories of a robot leg were compared with trajectories of a leg of a diving beetle in desired directions. As a result, we confirmed considerable similarity in the result of trajectory and joint angles comparison.

This paper reviewed the diving standards for underwater work in hostile environment and analyzed applied Navy diving technique, diving equipments and procedure for rescue operation of Navy ship Cheonan's missing crew occurred near Bak Ryung Do in March 2010. The operation was done beyond the international standards and safety practice, and by considering the nature of the mission, urgency and effectiveness as well as the detailed facts such as duration and depth of the dive, type of work to be performed, environmental conditions, time constraints of early rescue operation, it is analyzed that using air scuba diving system was adequate.

This study suggests the improvement of ROK Navy salvage and rescue diving system. ROK Navy system experiences characteristic restrictions for the environmental loading. These restrictions are known to deteriorate the efficiency of Navy salvage and rescue diving activity. In this study, the measurements were suggested to improve the efficiency. To achieve the goal, a comprehensive analysis is conducted using the published data including those of USN, NOAA and IANTD. Based on the analysis, suggestions were made. The technical diving techniques may be introduced to improve current ROK Navy diving system in limited areas. By adopting that technique, decompression procedures and underwater operation can be improved.

Currently, in Korea the scientific diving activity is being conducted without any legal basis, thus confusions arise in work coverage, equipment usage, and wage calculation etc. In this paper, introduction of scientific diver certification system is suggested to clear such confusions and to enhance the safety of scientific divers. Also the codes and regulations of foreign countries were introduced, and from the analysis of scientific diving tasks and applying skills, the hostility of the scientific diver's working environment as well as requirement of high level diving skills are explained. Finally the necessity of establishment of scientific diving regulation and introduction of diver certification system were emphasized and the promotion plan was discussed.

As people have gained leisure time and become more interested in sports, various industries catering to these sports, including aquatic and underwater activities are growing. Many people are getting into scuba diving, where people can explore the sea at depths of more than 40-meters. Despite the increasing demand, there are limited studies on the sport. This study aims to provide basic research on materials suitable for developing technical scuba diving suits by analyzing several areas, such as design, material, sewing patterns, etc. The following trends were observed in all wetsuits: closure designs, ergonomic patterns, practical and functional details. Neoprene was the primary material of diving suits, and various functional materials were attached to the outer fabric or lining. The seam technique which minimized water contact and improved durability was sewing. Various techniques were also applied, such as flatlock stitching, GBS, LFS, etc. Subsequent studies shall investigate consumer preference etc. and other aspects, and continue to allow for the research and development of technical diving suits.

This study aims to analyze both the current utilization of e-learning in the scuba diving education sector and the possible improvements by using Delphi analysis. The study administered three rounds of Delphi surveys with 25 specialists, including business executives and educational leaders from scuba diving centers and resorts affiliated with organizations that conduct scuba diving education through e-learning. The comparative analysis of the state of e-learning utilization and factors for improvement revealed significant insights. In terms of expected benefits, the analysis highlighted an increase in user convenience, temporal flexibility in learning activities, and easy access to products. However, it identified major issues such as the simplistic mandatory exams, inadequate professional depth in the feedback provided, and a lack of bidirectional communication between learners and instructors. Recommendations for improvements included enhancing communication through various online communities, conducting mandatory exams offline, and developing a variety of content. Conducting regular program quality evaluations, integrating with various diving communities, and assigning dedicated tutors were deemed crucial factors for future development.

The fabrication process for miniaturizing the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) sensor was studied using micromachining technique. Two types of sensor structure, free standing membrane type and diving beard type, were proposed and researched for establishing the fabrication process. The membrane type structure was easy to change the sensor shape but had the limitation for miniaturizing, because the size of the sensor depends on the silicon substrate thickness. The diving board type structure has the advantage of miniaturization and of free motion. Since the elastic modulus is not trio high, SiN film is expected to be adequate for the supporting membrane of magnetic sensor. The selectivity of $H_2O_2$for sputtered W with respect to Fe-B-Si, which was studded for magnetic sensor materials, was high enough to be removed after using as a protection layer. Therefore, the diving board type process using the silicon nitride film for the supporter of the sensor material and the sputtered W for protection layer is expected to be useful fur miniaturizing the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) sensor.
A modified Time-Ratio Gray Scale AMOLED drive technique is described in which the frame period is split into two half-frames, each of which is divided into binary weighted sub-frames and driven in the conventional time-ratio manner. The proposed technique improves aperture ratio by reducing TFT sizes in pixel circuits.

This paper presents a design technique of a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based $H_{\infty}$ controller for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The design procedure aims to render the stabilizing controller which satisfies performance of the diving control for AUVs in the presence of the disturbance. A nonlinear AUV is modeled by the T-S fuzzy system through the sector nonlinearity. By using Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the performance of robust depth control in the format of linear matrix inequality (LMI). To succeed for diving control of AUV, we add the constraints on the diving and pitch angles in the LMI conditions. Through the simulation, we confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

In this paper, a simple interpolation technique in a frequency domain is proposed for the discrete Fourier transform(DFT) algorithm. Frequency and phase resolution capabilities of the DFT algorithm can be significantly improved by the proposed interpolation technique without increase of a DFT size(the number of points for the DFT). The new technique uses a diving point in amplitude and phase spectrums. As an application, the technique can be used for joint estimation of fine frequency and phase offsets in burst mode digital transmission. Simulation results show that the joint estimator using the technique is robust to estimation errors.
