A Divided Scheduling Method based on Structural Characteristics in Wireless

  • Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are used for metropolitan area network that requires high network throughput for handling many users. TDMA-based access is a common solution for this problem and several scheduling methods have been proposed. However, existing heuristic methods have room for improvement at network throughput although they are low complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel divided scheduling method based on structural characteristics in order to improve network throughput in WMNs. It separately schedules neighbor links of gateways and that of the other links by different scheduling algorithms. Simulation-based evaluations show that our proposal improves up to 14% of network throughput compared with conventional scheduling algorithm script.

Heuristic Algorithms for Parallel Machine Scheduling Problems with Dividable Jobs

  • This research considers scheduling problems with jobs which can be divided into sub-jobs and do not required to be processed immediately following one another. Heuristic algorithms considering how to divide jobs are proposed in an attempt to find near-optimal solutions within reasonable run time. The algorithms contain two phases which are executed recursively. Phase 1 of the algorithm determines how jobs should be divided while phase 2 solves the scheduling problem given the sub-jobs established in phase 1. Simulated annealing and genetic algorithms are applied for the two phases and four heuristic algorithms are established. Numerical experiment is conducted to determine the best parameter values for the heuristic algorithms. Examples with different sizes and levels of complexity are generated. Performance of the proposed algorithms is evaluated. It is shown that the proposed algorithms are able to efficiently and effectively solve the considered problems.

Study on Preemptive Real-Time Scheduling Strategy for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Most of the tasks in wireless sensor networks (WSN) are requested to run in a real-time way. Neither EDF nor FIFO can ensure real-time scheduling in WSN. A real-time scheduling strategy (RTS) is proposed in this paper. All tasks are divided into two layers and endued diverse priorities. RTS utilizes a preemptive way to ensure hard real-time scheduling. The experimental results indicate that RTS has a good performance both in communication throughput and over-load.

  • 이질적인 계산자원들로 구성된 분산 컴퓨팅 환경에서 의존성이 존재하지 않는 독립적인 작업들을 자원들에 배치하기 위한 방법은 NP-Complete 문제로 알려져 있다[1]. 이질적인 자원으로 구성된 시스템의 대표적인 예가 GRID[2]이다. 현재까지 그리드 시스템에서 스케줄링 문제를 풀기 위한 다양한 휴리스틱 스케줄링 방법이 연구되어 왔다[1,3,4,5]. 스케줄링 방법은 정적인 방법과 동적인 방법으로 나뉘어진다. 동적 스케줄링 방법은 작업의 선후 관계를 예측할 수 없는 상황에서 사용되며 동적 스케줄링 방법은 스케줄링 시기에 따라 온라인방식과 배치방식으로 나뉘어진다[1,6]. 본 논문에서는 새로운 온라인 휴리스틱 스케줄링 알고리즘을 제안하였으며 제안된 스케줄링 알고리즘의 성능이 기존의 스케줄링 알고리즘의 성능보다 뛰어남을 시뮬레이션을 통하여 보였다.

  • We proposed the division algorithm that was aimed at dividing system models. It used a transitive matrix to express the relation between place and transition. And the division algorithm was applied to the scheduling problem, with the division-scheduling algorithm. The division-scheduling algorithm was able to calculate the divided subnet table. And it is able to reduce the analysis complexity. In this study, we applied the proposed division algorithm and division-scheduling algorithm to flexible manufacturing system models. We compared the efficiency and performance of the division-scheduling algorithm with the Hillion algorithm, Korbaa algorithm, and Unfolding algorithm proposed in previous researches.

Packet Loss Fair Scheduling Scheme for Real-Time Traffic in OFDMA Systems

  • In this paper, we propose a packet scheduling discipline called packet loss fair scheduling, in which the packet loss of each user from different real-time traffic is fairly distributed according to the quality of service requirements. We consider an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system. The basic frame structure of the system is for the downlink in a cellular packet network, where the time axis is divided into a finite number of slots within a frame, and the frequency axis is segmented into subchannels that consist of multiple subcarriers. In addition, to compensate for fast and slow channel variation, we employ a link adaptation technique such as adaptive modulation and coding. From the simulation results, our proposed packet scheduling scheme can support QoS differentiations while guaranteeing short-term fairness as well as long-term fairness for various real-time traffic.

  • The factory under this study consists of mixed-model assembly lines and workcenters which provide parts to the main lines. Parts produced by the workcenter have different specifications for different product models. The workcenters fabricate parts in batches, and they are divided into two types. A type 1 center supplies parts only to the main line that is designated to the center while type 2 center provides parts to all the main lines. The purpose of this study is to develop a scheduling scheme for the workcenter, and the main objective of the schedules is to provide parts for the main lines without delay. The facts that make the scheduling challengeable are that 1) the different models existing together on a main line request different parts, 2) the spaces for part inventories are limited and 3) set up times are sequence dependent and long in some cases. This study presents developed scheduling schemes for the type 1 center and explains the scheduling and control structure used.

  • In order to maximize an availability of machine and utilization of space, the parallel machines scheduling problem with space limit is frequently discussed in the industrial field. In this paper, we consider a scheduling problem for assembly machine in ship engine assembly shop. This paper considers the parallel machine scheduling problem in which n jobs having different release times, due dates and space limits are to be scheduled on m parallel machines. The objective function is to minimize the sum of earliness and tardiness. To solve this problem, a heuristic is developed. The proposed heuristic is divided into three modules hierarchically: job selection, machine selection and job sequencing, solution improvement. To illustrate its effectiveness, a proposed heuristic is evaluated with a large number of randomly generated test problems based on the field situation. Through the computational experiment, we determine the job selection rule that is suitable to the problem situation considered in this paper and show the effectiveness of our heuristic.

절삭력 추종을 위한 이송속도 최적화 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on feedrate Optimization System for Cutting Force Regulation)

  • Studies on the optimization of machining process can be divided into two different approaches: off-line feedrate scheduling and adaptive control. Each approach possesses its respective strong and weak points compared to each other. That is, each system can be complementary to the other. In this regard, a combined system, which is a feedrate control system fur cutting force optimization, was proposed in this paper to make the best of each approach. Experimental results show that the proposed system could overcome the weak points of the off-line feedrate scheduling system and the adaptive control system. In addition, from the figure, it can be confirmed that the off-line feedrate scheduling technique can improve the machining quality and can fulfill its function in the machine tool which has a adaptive controller.

Application Characteristic-based Divided Scheduling for Multicore Systems

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel user-level scheduling scheme that monitors applications characteristics on-line using PMU and allocates applications into cpu cores. We utilize PMU (Performance Monitoring Unit) to analyze which shared resource has the strongest relation with the influence. Using the proposed scheduling method, it is possible to reduce the contention of shared resources. The key idea of this scheme is separating high-influential applications into different processors. The evaluation results have shown that the proposed scheduling scheme can enhance the performance up to 12% for a 8 core system and up to 25% for a 28 core system, respectively.
