The paper describes on the hydrologic analysis of point rainfall data of the three major areas, such as in Seoul, Pusan and Taegu. Scheme of the paper is analyzed five research cases. Contents of the analysis are carried out five kinds of transformed variables for determination of rainfall distribution types and two kinds of reliability tests on unusual(extraordinary) values each rainfall durations:short durations, long durations, long durations, monthly and yearly. Rainfall depth probability had been computed methods of hydrologic amounts analysis namely logarithmic transformations or Gumbel-Chow method and so on, but in this paper it is calculated log xi, n-square root transformations by using normal distribution function and normalization of rainfall distributions is examined graphical tests and $X^2-test$(chi-square test). Furthermore, rainfall depth probability is calculated taking into account the safty factors of project life of hydraulic structures. We think it is advanced contents that considering priceless experiences, the life of structures, conditions and more problems of planning engineers and designers, proposed rainfall amounts(proposed values) are presented charts or figures.
On account of the increase in water demand and climate change, droughts are in great concern for water resources planning and management. In this study, rainfall characteristics with stationary and non-stationary perspectives were analyzed using Weibull distribution model with 40-year records of annual minimum rainfall depth collected in major cities of Korea. As a result, the non-stationary minimum probable rainfall was expected to decrease, compared with the stationary probable rainfall. The reliability of ${\xi}_1$, a variable reflecting the decrease of the minimum rainfall depth due to climate change, in Wonju, Daegu, and Busan was over 90%, indicating the probability that the minimal rainfall depths in those city decrease is high.
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate impacts of ENSO on frequency and spatial distribution of rainfall in South Korea. In this paper, First, rainfall data in 60 climate stations were categorized into Warm(El Nino), Cold(La Nina), Normal episodes based on the Cold & Warm Episodes by Season, then 100 years of daily rainfall data were generated for each episodic events(El Nino, La Nina, Normal) using Markov Chain model. Finally, Estimating frequency based flood and comparison for each episodes were conducted. From the results, it shows that there are significant changes in the rainfall frequency and the spatial distribution of rainfall among Warm(EL Nino), Cold(La Nina) and Normal episodes.

The applicability of a distributed rainfall-runoff model for large river basin flood forecasts is analyzed by applying the model to the Nakdong River basin. The spatially explicit hydrologic model was constructed and calibrated by the several storm events. The assimilation of the large scale Nakdong River basin were conducted by calibrating the sub-basin channel outflow, dam discharge in the basin rainfall-runoff model. The applicability of automatic and semi-automatic calibration methods was analyzed for real time calibrations. Further an ensemble distributed rainfall runoff model has been developed to measure the runoff hydrograph generated for any temporally-spatially varied rainfall events, also the runoff of basin can be forecast at any location as well. The results of distributed rainfall-runoff model are very useful for flood managements on the large scale basins. That offer facile, realistic management method for the avoiding the potential flooding impacts and provide a reference for the construct and developing of flood control facilities.
In this study, statistical analysis under both stationary and non-stationary climate was conducted for rainfall data measured in Seoul. Generalised Extreme Value (GEV) distribution and Gumbel distribution were used for the analysis. Rainfall changes under the non-stationary climate were estimated by applying time variable (t) to location parameter (${\xi}$). Rainfall depths calculated in non-stationary climate increased by 1.1 to 6.2mm and 1.0 to 4.6mm for the GEV distribution and gumbel distribution respectively from those stationary forms. Changes in annual maximum rainfall were estimated with rate of change in the location parameter (${\xi}1{\cdot}t$), and temporal changes of return period were predicted. This was also available for re-evaluating the current sewer design return period. Design criteria of sewer system was newly suggested considering life expectance of the system as well as temporal changes in the return period.
This study proposes and evaluates a methodology for deriving the rainfall intensity- duration-frequency relationship for durations less than 10 minutes used for designing drainage systems in small urban catchments and roads. The method proposed in this study is based on the Moupfouma distribution, which has been evaluated by applying it to the rainfall data at the meteorological Seoul station. Summarizing the results is as follows: (1) The frequency analysis results using minutely rainfall data was found not to be corresponded with the extrapolation of that by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (2000). (2) The annual maxima minutely rainfall data derived by applying the Moupfouma distribution to the accumulated 60-minute data was found to well reproduce the characteristics of those of observed. (3) The rainfall intensity-duration-frequency relationship derived by applying the Moufouma distribution to the accumulated 50-minute data and hourly data was found insignificant.

This research proposes the suitable method for estimating the future probable rainfall based in 2100 on the observed rainfall data from main climate observation stations in Korea and the rainfall data from the A1B climate change scenario in the Korea Meteorological Administration. For all those, the frequency probable rainfall in 2100 was estimated by the relationship between average values of 24-hours annual maximum rainfalls and related parameters. Three methods to estimate it were introduced; First one is the regressive analysis method by parameters of probable distribution estimated by observed rainfall data. In the second method, parameters of probable distribution were estimated with the observed rainfall data. Also the rainfall data till 2100 were estimated by the A1B scenario of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Last method was that parameters of probable distribution and probable rainfall were estimated by the A1B scenario of the Korea Meteorological Administration. The estimated probable rainfall by the A1B scenario was smaller than the observed rainfall data, so it is required that the estimated probable rainfall was calibrated by the quantile mapping method. After that calibration, estimated probable rainfall data was averagely became approximate 2.3 to 3.0 times. When future probable rainfall was the estimated by only observed rainfall, estimated probable rainfall was overestimated. When future probable rainfall was estimated by the A1B scenario, although it was estimated by similar pattern with observed rainfall data, it frequently does not consider the regional characteristics. Comparing with average increased rate of 24-hours annual maximum rainfall and increased rate of probable rainfall estimated by three methods, optimal method of estimated future probable rainfall would be selected for considering climate change.
This study is to derive the rainfall intensity formula based on the representative probability distribution in Korea. The 11 probability distributions which has been widely used in hydrologic frequency analysis are applied to the annual maximum rainfall. The parameters of each probability distribution are estimated by method of moments, maximum likelihood method and method of probability weighted moments. Four tests such as $x^2$-test, Kolmogorv-Smirnov test, difference test and modified difference test are used to determine the goodness of fit of the distributions. The homogeneous tests (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance of nonparametric test) are applied to find the stations with rainfall homogeneity. The results of homogeneous tests show that there is no representative appropriate distribution for the whole duration in Korea. The whole region could be divided into five zones for 12-durations. The representative probability distribution of each divided zone for 12-durations was determined. The GEV distribution for I,II,V zones and the 3-parameter Weibull distribution for III,IV zones were determined as the representative probability distribution. The rainfall were obtained from representative probability distribution for the selected return periods. Rainfall intensity formula was determined by linearization technique for the rainfall.
This study generated flood time series of ungauged catchments in the Andongdam catchment using a distributed rainfall-runoff model and data generation method, and extracted the peak flows of 50 catchments to investigate the effect of rainfall spatial variability on peak flow simulation. The model performance statistics for three gauged catchments were reasonable for all events. The flood time series of the 50 catchments were generated using distributed and mean rainfall time series as input. The distribution of the peak flow using the mean rainfall was similar or slightly different to that using the distributed rainfall when the distribution of the distributed rainfall was nearly uniform. However, the distribution of the peak flow using the mean rainfall was reduced significantly compared to that using the distributed rainfall when actual storms moved to the top or bottom of the study catchment, or the rainfall was randomly distributed. These cases were 35% of total number events. Therefore, the spatial variability of rainfall should be considered for flood simulation. In addition, the power law relationship estimated using the peak flow of gauged catchments cannot be used for estimating the peak flow of ungauged independent catchments due to latter's significant variation of the peak flow magnitude.
The goal of this study is to improve Huff's method which is the most popular method for rainfall time distribution in Korea. As the first step, we reevaluated the context of Huff's original research motivations, geography and rainfall pattern of study area, and compared that to Korean situations. In original Huff's results, no change in temporal distribution characteristics were found for different rainfall durations. This was found to be different from Korean situations. Furthermore, results from the MOCT(Ministry of Construction and Transportation) version of Huff's method is on a gage basis not on a watershed basis, thus making it difficult to select cumulative rainfall curves representative of a watershed. In addition, all rainfall data regardless of their magnitude were used in the MOCT version of Huff' method which is different from original Huff's which screened out data by using a threshold value of 25.4mm. For both point and areal mean rainfall, time distribution characteristics of rainfall for various durations were found to be different. This was statistically proven by K-S test at 5% significance level as some cumulative rainfall curves developed from the rainfall data of certain durations were found to be not significant with cumulative rainfall curves developed from the rainfall data of all durations. Therefore, in order to apply Huff's method to Korean situations, it is recommended that dimensionless cumulative curve must be developed for various rainfall duration intervals using rainfall data greater than a certain threshold value.
