  • Purpose: UAV-based photo measurements are being researched using UAVs in the space information field as they are not only cost-effective compared to conventional aerial imaging but also easy to obtain high-resolution data on desired time and location. In this study, the UAV-based high-resolution images were used to perform the land cover classification. Method: RGB cameras were used to obtain high-resolution images, and in addition, multi-distribution cameras were used to photograph the same regions in order to accurately classify the feeding areas. Finally, Land cover classification was carried out for a total of seven classes using created ortho image by RGB and multispectral camera, DSM(Digital Surface Model), NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), GLCM(Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix) using RF (Random Forest), a representative supervisory classification system. Results: To assess the accuracy of the classification, an accuracy assessment based on the error matrix was conducted, and the accuracy assessment results were verified that the proposed method could effectively classify classes in the region by comparing with the supervisory results using RGB images only. Conclusion: In case of adding orthoimage, multispectral image, NDVI and GLCM proposed in this study, accuracy was higher than that of conventional orthoimage. Future research will attempt to improve classification accuracy through the development of additional input data.

  • We have carried out granulometry and component analysis on pyroclastic deposits of the Maljandeung Tuff, Ulleung Island, to interpret the eruption types and prime dynamic mechanisms. It is divided into three members in the extracaldera area, each of which comprises the lithofacies of coarse tuffs and lapillistones in the lower part, and pumice deposits in upper one. The lithofacies present quantitative evidences in the granularity and component distribution patterns. As compared to the pumice deposits, the coarse tuffs and lapillistones exhibit a relative increase in both the lithic/juvenile and the crystal/juvenile ratios, and a preferential fragmentation of the juvenile fraction. The abundance of lithics and crystals in the tuffs and lapillistones can be attributed to preferential fragmentation of the aquifer-hosting rocks due to explosive evaporation of ground water, and indirect enrichment in lithics and crystals due to removal of juvenile fines from eruptive cloud. The above data exhibit that early phreatopmagmatic phase was followed by purely magmatic fragmentation phases. The coarse tuffs and lapillistones suggest phreatoplinian eruption derived from explosive interaction of magma with ground water near the conduit, while pumice deposits indicate magmatic eruption by magmatic explosion from juvenile gas pressure. In early stage, phreatoplinian eruption occurred from explosive magma/water interaction in connecting confining water with drawdown of the magma column in the conduit; Later it shifted to plinian eruption by explosive expansion of only magmatic volatiles in intercepting water influx due to higher magmatic gas pressure than confining water pressure with rising of the magma column in the conduit.

  • We analyzed the spatio-temporal distribution characteristics of water quality and phytoplankton communities in the Isa Stream systems (ISS) from Sangsa Lake to Suncheon Bay. Sangsa Lake showed relatively oligotrophic and mesotrophic conditions, but the freshwater and mixed brackish water zones showed more severe eutrophication than Sangsa Lake and Suncheon Bay due to the influence of industrial waste such as livestock waste. In terms of the phytoplankton community, the number of phytoplankton species was higher in freshwater and mixed brackish water zones than in Sangsa Lake and Suncheon Bay, but the cell density and Chlorophyll-a concentrations (Chl-a) were relatively high in Sanga Lake and Suncheon Bay. In particular, the mesotrophic species Fragilaria crotonensis and Asterionella formosa showed different dominance in the surface and bottom layers, and the influence of A. formosa was significant in the freshwater and mixed brackish water zones in spring and summer. However, Skeletonema costatum-ls, a eutrophic indicator species, dominated in mixed brackish water zones to seawater in autumn and winter. Thus, the severe eutrophication and rapid environmental changes in the ISS could seriously damage the coastal ecosystem in Suncheon Bay. These ecosystem changes are threatening in terms of conservation and management of the UNESCO Suncheon Biosphere Reserve and Yeoja Bay including Suncheon Bay, which recorded the first Ramsar wetland in Korea. Therefore, further research is needed to establish an in-depth management plan.

  • Traditionally, most malicious codes have been analyzed using feature information extracted by domain experts. However, this feature-based analysis method depends on the analyst's capabilities and has limitations in detecting variant malicious codes that have modified existing malicious codes. In this study, we propose a ResNet-Variational AutoEncder-based variant malware classification method that can classify a family of variant malware without domain expert intervention. The Variational AutoEncoder network has the characteristics of creating new data within a normal distribution and understanding the characteristics of the data well in the learning process of training data provided as input values. In this study, important features of malicious code could be extracted by extracting latent variables in the learning process of Variational AutoEncoder. In addition, transfer learning was performed to better learn the characteristics of the training data and increase the efficiency of learning. The learning parameters of the ResNet-152 model pre-trained with the ImageNet Dataset were transferred to the learning parameters of the Encoder Network. The ResNet-Variational AutoEncoder that performed transfer learning showed higher performance than the existing Variational AutoEncoder and provided learning efficiency. Meanwhile, an ensemble model, Stacking Classifier, was used as a method for classifying variant malicious codes. As a result of learning the Stacking Classifier based on the characteristic data of the variant malware extracted by the Encoder Network of the ResNet-VAE model, an accuracy of 98.66% and an F1-Score of 98.68 were obtained.

  • This study purposed to analyze the spatial pattern and the amount of carbon emission at the deforestation area based on the administrative and GIS data. The total size of deforestation area in last nine years (2000-2008) was about 649 ha, and it was occurred annually about 72 ha. The occurrence rate of deforestation per administrative area in Wonju was about 0.74%. It was 0.34% higher than that of Kwangwondo, and 0.06% less than that of National rate. On the other hand, the forms of deforestation by purpose were not related to the administrative district unit. The number of deforestation forms was highest at settlements. second most frequent form is other land. Grassland showed the lowest score. In addition, the deforestations were more occurred which is closed to the existing housing and building rather than roads. The number of deforestation was 1.2 times higher based on 300m. Seventy percent of deforestation was occurred which is less than 0.5 ha in size, and it increased to 91% when the size is less than 1ha. The total size of theoretical carbon emission based on deforestation area was estimated at 23,424 tc, and average annual carbon emission was estimated by 2,603 tc. Carbon emission per ha was 36.1 tC/ha. This study results will be useful to construct the greenhouse gas statistical verification system against the Post-2012 by GIS.

  • The feasibility of applications of the char obtained from a gasification process of municipal-waste refuse derived fuel (RDF) as an auxiliary fuel was evaluated by combustion experiments. The higher heating value of the RDF char was 3000~4000 kcal/kg and its chlorine content was below the standard requirement demonstrating its potential as an auxiliary fuel. In the combustion exhaust gas, the maximum $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ concentrations were 240 ppm and 223 ppm, respectively. If an aftertreatment is applied, it is possible to control their concentrations low enough to meet the air pollutant emission standard. The HCl concentration was relatively high indicating that a care should be taken for HCl emission from the combustion of RDF. Based on the temperature distribution within the reactor, the concentration change of $O_2$ and $CO_2$, and the amount and the loss on ignition of solid residue, it was inferred that the combustion reaction was the most reliable when the excess air ratio of 1.3 was used.

  • Lysosomes are organelles surrounded by membranes that contain acid hydrolases; they degrade proteins, macromolecules, and lipids. According to nutrient conditions, lysosomes act as signaling hubs that regulate intracellular signaling pathways and are involved in the homeostasis of cells. Therefore, the lysosomal dysfunction occurs in various diseases, such as lysosomal storage disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancers. Multiple forms of stress can increase lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP), resulting in the induction of lysosome-mediated cell death through the release of lysosomal enzymes, including cathepsin, into the cytosol. Here we review the molecular mechanisms of LMP-mediated cell death and the enhancement of sensitivity to anticancer drugs. Induction of partial LMP increases apoptosis by releasing some cathepsins, whereas massive LMP and rupture induce non-apoptotic cell death through release of many cathepsins and generation of ROS and iron. Cancer cells have many drug-accumulating lysosomes that are more resistant to lysosome-sequestered drugs, suggesting a model of drug-induced lysosome-mediated chemoresistance. Lysosomal sequestration of hydrophobic weak base anticancer drugs can have a significant impact on their subcellular distribution. Lysosome membrane damage by LMP can overcome resistance to anticancer drugs by freeing captured hydrophobic weak base drugs from lysosomes. Therefore, LMP inducers or lysosomotropic agents can regulate lysosomal integrity and are novel strategies for cancer therapy.

  • Lychnis wilfordii (Regel) Maxim. is one of the wetland specialists mainly distributed in peatlands at high latitudes. In Korea, it is isolated in two regions. This study investigated habitats, growth traits, and self-compatibility of L. wilfordii and assessed the internal dynamics of its population persistence. Its population has remained stable in the Yongneup Wetland Protected Area (YWPA). There was a clear difference in vegetation environment between YWPA and the distribution area in Daegwallyeong (DWL), Pyeongchang-gun. It has self-compatibility while pollinators facilitate its seed production. It produces a large number of hibernacles and bears the maximum number of branches and fruits in soil with rich organic contents. However, it grows and bears fruits even under the condition of low organic contents. In YWPA, L. wilfordii is not distributed in high moor but widely distributed in low moor where tussocks by Carex thunbergii var. appendiculata are developed. It is mainly distributed on the top of tussocks also. Therefore, it is judged that the formation, growth, and extinction of tussocks by C. thunbergii var. appendiculata is closely related to the establishment, growth, and extinction of plants distributed in this space. It is assessed that the current YWPA has well-developed tussocks in which L. wilfordii is widely distributed, and extinction and re-establishment progress well. Accordingly, the L. wilfordii population is expected to be sustainable in the long term given if its current ecological process is maintained well.

  • Seven techniques widely used in the geodetic transformations have been reviewed and compared to figure out their theoretical characteristics. A series of numerical tests were performed about four data sets. This was followed by result analyses in terms of transformation residuals and accuracies together with some hypothesis testings based on the student-t distribution to confirm the statistical significance of the techniques. In the case of the transformation between the geodetic frames implemented in the same system, no statistical significance was revealed in the results of the 3D transformation techniques, even if the testing area becomes large as the Asia-Oceania continent. Among the 2D transformations, it was possible for the NTv2 grid modeling technique to deliver improved transformation accuracy. Finally, it was possible from the results analyzed in this study to propose the Helmert transformation to geodetic control points and the NTv2 technique to the 2D spatial data transformation of the geodetic systems.
