  • A Grid Database is a database management system to process effectively and use the distributed data in a grid computing environment. Spatial data is more important than other general data according to the local characteristics and requires a large storage. The grid database can be used as the optimal system for the management of the spatial data. However, contrary to the conventional distributed database systems, the Grid Database which guarantees the local autonomy has a possibility not to provide an effective system, or it is impossible to use a centralized management environment. In order to allow flexible responses to a dynamically changing environment, it is required to use effectively reorganized method. In this paper, hierarchical reorganization method is presented for dynamic reorganization in a grid database. When the reorganization is conducted, an organizer is created to collect the information of databases. In addition, the organizer which is constructed by the hierarchical structure supports information communication and reorganization, and then it allows the support of regional reorganization operation and effective balance control. The performance assessment of the proposed method shows that the processing capacity is increased after the reorganization.

  • We propose an extremely light DDXMI approach for semi-automated integration of both structurally and semantically heterogeneous distributed XML documents. In the proposed prototype, a DDXMI(Distributed Documents XML Metadata Interface) is defined and a user interface generator is developed. The prototype takes sources' DTDs as inputs and generates a friendly graphical user interface for the application users. The user can easily describe the semantic mapping between the integrated virtual database DTD and sources' DTDs through assigning index numbers and specifying associated function names so that the DDXMI based on the mappings is automatically generated. Quilt is selected as the XML query language which processes user queries according to the DDXMI. It is assumed that the application users know what they want from the different sources, that is, they have their own integrated database schema in their mind, and know the semantics of the involved XML databases. A small-size global DTD and a mid-size global DTB are generated to verify the rluery generation and retrieval results with 3 XML document databases, that is, Master/ph.D thesis, research reports, and journal databases. The system has been developed with JavaCC and Java Servelet.

  • These days, there are more and more IT research institutions which foresee cloud services as the predominant IT service in the near future and there, in fact, are actual cloud services provided by some IT leading vendors. Regardless of physical location of the service and environment of the system, cloud service can provide users with storage services, usage of data and software. On the other hand, cloud service has challenges as well. Even though cloud service has its edge in terms of the extent to which the IT resource can be freely utilized regardless of the confinement of hardware, the availability is another problem to be solved. Hence, this paper is dedicated to tackle the aforementioned issues; prerequisites of cloud computing for distributed file system, open source based Hadoop distributed file system, in-memory database technology and high availability database system. Also the author tries to body out the high availability mass distributed data management architecture in cloud service's perspective using currently used distributed file system in cloud computing market.

  • The online game system could be largely divided into two parts: servers and clients. Clients accesses to a game server and analyzes the packets transmitted from a server. A game server manages users information and database. U a game server allows a new client to access the server to execute a game, it should accept the access request of the new client maintaining the online connection of the existing users. In this paper, we compare Process method and Thread method within the multiple jobs process methods of a server. Then we propose an asymmetric distributed multi server architecture that is adequate to asymmetric distributed architecture that is widely applied to most game servers. The proposed asymmetric distributed multi server architecture includes login server, game server, communication server and database server to perform its own feature independently. Comparing its other architectures, it shows better performance economically and technically. Especially it improves the stability and expandability of a server.

  • The confluence of computers, communications, and databases is quickly creating a distributed database where many applications require real-time access to temporally consistent sensor data. We have developed an object-oriented real-time database system called BeeHive to provide a significant improvement in performance and functionality over conventional non-real-time database and object management systems. In this paper, the performance of two data-deadline cognizant scheduling policies EDDF and EDF-DC and the baseline EDF policy with/without admission control are evaluated through extensive experiments on BeeHive. The ranges where data-deadline cognizant scheduling policies are effective and where admission control plays a role are identified.

  • This paper deals with an EJB-based database agent(component) used to define workflow processes, which is a core function of the e-Chautauqua workflow management system that is an on-going research product. We describe about how to design and implement the EJB-based DB agent that is deployed on EJB server as a component. The agent is located between the build-time clients and the database system, and manages database accesses, such as retrieves and stores, from the workflow definition components. Through the EJB technology, we are able to accomplish a stable database agent that can be characterized by the distributed object management, reliable recovery mechanism from system failovers, reliable large-scale transaction management, and the security functions.

  • Most of previous parallel join algorithms assume a database partition system(DPS), where each database partition is owned by a single processing node. While the DPS is novel in the sense that it can interconnect a large number of nodes and support a geographically distributed environment, it may suffer from poor facility for load balancing and system availability compared to the database sharing system(DSS). In this paper, we propose a dynamic load balancing strategy by exploiting the characteristics of the DSS, and then extend the conventional hash join algorithms to the DSS by using the dynamic load balancing strategy. With simulation studies under a wide variety of system configurations and database workloads, we analyze the effects of the dynamic load balancing strategy and differences in the performances of hash join algorithms in the DSS.

  • We propose Framework that (should) have data interoperability between Legacy DataBases using Proxy DataBases based on XMDR(eXtended Meta-Data Registry) Data Hub in this papers. It may occur some problems among data structure, semantics and other heterogeneous problems between interoperability of legacy DB on cooperation environment. Also, It is hard to keep consistency of Data that changes on realtime, regardless of data variety and type. In this paper, Using XMDR data hub, we solve the problem that was occurred by data integration and interoperability between legacy DB. We suggest the framework which are compatible with any class and type of interoperability-data and offer accurate information with consistency in real-time using proxy database.

  • The Hydrogeologic data of 455 water wells comprising geologic and aquifer test were analyzed to determine hydrogeoloic characteristics of Cheju island. The groundwater of Cheju island is occurred in unconsolidated pyroclastic deposits interbedded in highly jointed basaltic and andesic rocks as high level, basal and parabasal types order unconfined condition. The average transmissivity and specific yield of the aquifer are at about 29,300m$^2$/day and 0.12 respectively. The total storage of groundwater is estimated about 44 billion cubic meters(m$^3$). Average annual precipitation is about 3390 million m$^3$ among which average recharge amount is estimated 1494 million m$^3$ equivalent 44.1% of annual precipitation with 638 million m$^3$ of runoff and 1256 million m$^3$ of evapotranspiration. Based on groundwater budget analysis, the sustainable yield is about 620 million m$^3$(41% of annual recharge)and rest of it is discharging into the sea. The geologic logs of recently drilled thermal water wens indicate that very low-permeable marine sediments(Sehwa-ri formation) composed of loosely cemented sandy sat derived from mainly volcanic ashes, at the 1st stage volcanic activity of the area was situated at the 120$\pm$68m below sea level. And also the other low-permeable sedimentary rock called Segipo-formation which is deemed younger than former marine sediment is occured at the area covering north-west and western part of Cheju at the $\pm$70m below sea level. If these impermeable beds are distributed as a basal formation of fresh water zone of Cheju, most of groundwater in Cheju will be para-basal type. These formations will be one of the most important hydrogeologic boundary and groundwater occurences in the area.

  • In order to adapt today's short product life cycle and rapid technology changes., integrated systems should be extended to support PDM (Product Data Management) or CE(Concurrent Engineering). A PDM/CE environment has been developed and a prototype is Presented in this paper. Features of the PDM/CE environment are 1) integrated product information model (IPIM) includes both data model and integrity constraints, 2) database systems are organized hierarchically so that working data C8Mot be referenced by other application systems until they are released into the global database, and 3) integrity constraints written in EXPRESS are validated both in the local databases and the global database. By keeping the integrity of the product data, undesirable propagation of illegal data to other application system can be prevented. For efficient validation, the constraints are distributed into the local and the global schemata. Separate triggering mechanisms are devised using the dependency of constraints to three different data operations, i.e., insertion, deletion, and update.
