  • This paper introduces the use of network theory to model and analyze disparate ship design information. This work will focus on a ship's distributed systems and their intra- and intersystem structures and interactions. The three system to be analyzed are: a passageway system, an electrical system, and a fire fighting system. These systems will be analyzed individually using common network metrics to glean information regarding their structures and attributes. The systems will also be subjected to community detection algorithms both separately and as a multiplex network to compare their similarities, differences, and interactions. Network theory will be shown to be useful in the early design stage due to its simplicity and ability to model any shipboard system.

  • The amount of information increases rapidly when working in a distributed environment where multiple collaborative partners work together on a complex product. Today's PDM (product data management) systems provide good capabilities regarding the management of product data within a single company. However, taking into account the variety of systems used at partner sites in an engineering environment one can easily imagine problems regarding the interoperability and the data consistency. This paper presents a concept to improve the workflow management using the parameters network. It shows a parameter driven engineering workflow that is able to manage engineering task across company boarders. We introduce a mechanism of workflow management based on the engineering parameters and an architecture of the distributed workspace to apply it within a PDM system. For a parameter mapping between CAD and PDM system we developed an XML-based CATIA data interface module using CAA.

  • The increased penetration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) is challenging the entire architecture of conventional electrical power system. Microgrid paradigm, featuring higher flexibility and reliability, becomes an attractive candidate for the future power grid. In this paper, an overview of microgrid configurations is given. Then, possible structure options and control methods of DER units are presented, which is followed by the descriptions of system controls and power management strategies for AC microgrids. Finally, future trends of microgrids are discussed pointing out how this concept can be a key to achieve a more intelligent and flexible power system.

  • During daylight, the solar array of low earth orbit satellites harvests electrical power to operate satellites. The power conversion of the solar array is carried out by control of the operation point using the solar array regulator when the solar array faces the sunlight. Thus, the design of the solar array should comply with not only the power requirement of satellite system but also the input voltage requirement of the solar array regulator. In this paper, the design requirements of the solar array for low earth orbit satellites are defined, and the means of satisfying these requirements are described. In addition, the architecture of a multi-distributed interface is suggested to maximize the power harvested from a solar array having high temperature deviation between each panel. The power analysis in this paper shows the optimal number of multi-distributed interfaces with a converter.

  • Maintaining materialized views and/or replica can basically be considered as a client-sewer architecture that extracts the changes of the distributed source data and transfers them to the relevant target sites. View maintenance and materialized views are considered to be important for suggesting solutions to the problems such as a decision support, active databases, a data warehouse, temporal databases, internet applications, etc. In this paper an analysis is addressed that formulates the cost functions and evaluates them as the propagation subjects, objects, and update policies. The propagation subject can be the client side, sewer side, and the third: and the objects can be base tables, semi-base tables, and delta files: And the update policies can be the immediate, deferred and periodic ones, respectively.

  • This paper deals with a new automated guided vehicle (AGV) control system for distributed control. Proposed AGV control system adapts the multi-agent technology. The system is composed of two types of controller: routing and order. The order controller is in charge of assignment of orders to AGVs. Through the bidding-based negotiation with routing controllers, the order controller assigns a new order to the proper AGV. The order controller announces order information to the routing controllers. Then the routing controllers generate a routing schedule for the order and make a bid according to the routing schedule. If the routing schedule conflicts with other AGV's one, the routing controller makes an alternative through negotiation with other routing controllers. The order controller finally evaluates bids and selects one. Each controller consists of a set of agents: negotiation agent, decision making agent and communication agent. We focus on the agent architecture and negotiation-based AGV scheduling algorithm. Proposed system is validated through an exemplary scenario.

  • In this paper, a cache mechanism is proposed to improve the speed of query processing in distributed director database systems. To decrease search time of requested objects and query processing time. query requests and results about objects in a remote site are stored in the cache of a local site. Cache system architecture is designed according to the classified information. Cache schema are designed for each cache information. Operational algorithms are developed for meta data cache which has meta data tree. This tree improves the speed of query processing by reducing the scope of search space. Finally, performance evaluation is performed by comparing the proposed cache mechanism with X500.

  • The network encironment includes a number of autonomous agents which are widely distributed, have different platforms, and change very dynamically. The information system operated on this environment must solve some basic problems; restrictive client-server models, heterogeneous systems, and intellignet agents. We are using KQML for knowledge management. Java language provides solutions against a strong server dependency and a heterogenous troubles. We introduce KQML as an agent communication language and JATLite as a java agent template. these increase an efficiency of communication on network and enable us to use resources distributed in world wide web. Also, we describe a new agent system architecture and implement it through an example scenario

  • The UPnP is middleware architecture that supports dynamic distributed computing environment. It has many good features for possible use as middleware in robot system integration. There is a need for bulky binary data transmission between distributed robot S/W components. Since the UPnP utilizes SOAP protocol for message transmission, however, it is not efficient to send bulky binary data. In order to overcome this weak point, this paper proposes UPnP-MTOM, MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) implementation over UPnP, as an efficient way for bulky binary data transmission with UPnP messages. This paper presents our implementation method and experimental results of the UPnP-MTOM implementation.
