Abstract This paper describes the design and implementation of software framework which supports the processing of real-time stream data like audio and video in distributed object-oriented computing environment. DAViS(Distributed Object Framework supporting Audio/Video Streaming), proposed in this paper, abstracts software components concerning the processing of audio/video data as distributed objects and separates the transmission path of data between them from that of control information. Based on DAViS, distributed applications can be written in the same abstract level as is provided by the existing distributed environment in handling audio/video data. DAViS has a flexible internal structure enough to easily incorporate new types of audio/video data and to rapidly accommodate the progress of underlying network and computer system technology with very little modifications.
Many works have attempted to solve the scalability, the availability, and the low-latency problems of peer-to-peer (P2P) live video streaming; yet, the problems still remain. While tree-based systems are vulnerable to churn, the mesh-based systems suffer from high delay and overhead. The DHT-aided chunk-driven overlay (DCO) [1] tried to tackle these problems by using the distributed hash table (DHT), which structures into a mesh-based overlay to efficiently share the video segment. However, DCO fully depends on the capacity of the users' device which is small and unstable, i.e., the users' device may leave and join the network anytime, and the video server's bandwidth can be insufficient when the number of users joining the network suddenly increases. Therefore, cloud assist is introduced to overcome those problems. Cloud assist can be used to enhance the availability, the low-latency, and the scalability of the system. In this paper, the DHT is used to maintain the location of the streaming segments in a distributed manner, and the cloud server is used to assist other peers when the bandwidth which required for sharing the video segment is insufficient. The simulation results show that by using the threshold and cloud assist, the availability and the low-latency of the video segments, and the scalability of the network are greatly improved.
In this study, we propose a multi-GPU-based 8KVR stitching system that operates in real time on both local and cloud machine environments. The proposed system first obtains multiple 4 K video inputs, decodes them, and generates a stitched 8KVR video stream in real time. The generated 8KVR video stream can be downloaded and rendered omnidirectionally in player apps on smartphones, tablets, and head-mounted displays. To speed up processing, we adopt group-of-pictures-based distributed decoding/encoding and buffering with the NV12 format, along with multi-GPU-based parallel processing. Furthermore, we develop several algorithms such as equirectangular projection-based color correction, real-time CG overlay, and object motion-based seam estimation and correction, to improve the stitching quality. From experiments in both local and cloud machine environments, we confirm the feasibility of the proposed 8KVR stitching system with stitching speed of up to 83.7 fps for six-channel and 62.7 fps for eight-channel inputs. In addition, in an 8KVR live streaming test on the 5G MEC/cloud, the proposed system achieves stable performances with 8 K@30 fps in both indoor and outdoor environments, even during motion.
It is difficult to provide a video on demand (VoD) service to a large number of users via the Internet. This is due to the characteristics of VoD, which require a large bandwidth for a long playing time. The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) concept is proposed to increase the scalability of the VoD service. Many studies have been undertaken to solve this problem. But its success is still quite limited technically, these research have been deployed in a rush, mostly based on practicality and instability. A system which uses a distributed VoD streaming scheme over P2P network is proposed to support media streaming.
P2P Video-on-Demand (VoD) is becoming a popular service in the Internet. The first deployments are already in place, and millions of customers worldwide are already using this new medium. But its success is still quite limited and technically, these researches have been deployed in a rush, mostly based on practicality and instability. This paper studies the advantages and potential problems of VoD in peer-to-peer (P2P) network, we propose a system which uses a distributed VoD streaming scheme over P2P network to support media streaming.
The paper describes the implementation of the video conferencing system using public key infrastructure which is used for user authentication and media stream encryption. Using public key infrastructure, we are able to reinforce the authentication for conference participant and block several malicious hacking while protecting conference control information. The paper shows the implementation of the transportation layer secure protocol in conformity with Korea public key authentication algorithm standard and symmetric key encryption algorithm (RC2, SEED, DES and 3DES) for media stream encryption. The feature of the paper is transportation layer secure protocol that is implemented for protection of information on a user authentication and video conference and the media streaming encryption algorithm also can be envisioned with another block encryption algorithm. The key for media streaming encryption may be safely distributed by the transportation layer secure protocol.
