  • As one of the Principal modalities of human sensation, tactile feel is prerequisite for building wide variety of applications such as telemanipulation, virtual reality and medical engineering. A dynamic Braille display device based on a polymer actuator is presented. The actuator, often called artificial muscle actuator has advantageous features over the existing methods in terms of intrinsic softness, ease of fabrication, cost-effectiveness and miniaturization. The principles of actuation with dielectric elastomer is introduced, and necessary considerations on the design of a tactile display device are discussed. The design of the device is described in detail including the fabrication process and driving electronics. Also, preliminary results of experiments are given to evaluate its performance.

  • There is mounting evidence that complex computer system displays in control rooms contribute to cognitive complexity and, thus, to the probability of human error. Research shows that reaction time increases and response accuracy decreases as the number of elements in the display screen increase. However, in terms of supporting the control room operator, approaches focusing on addressing display complexity solely in terms of information density and its location and patterning, will fall short of delivering a properly designed interface. This paper argues that information complexity and semantic complexity are mandatory components when considering display complexity and that the addition of these concepts assists in understanding and resolving differences between designers and the preferences and performance of operators. This paper concludes that a number of simplified methods, when combined, can be used to estimate the impact that a particular display may have on the operator's ability to perform a function accurately and effectively. We present a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach and a method for complexity estimation.

  • In recent years, attempts have been made to greatly improve the display quality of active-matrix liquid crystal display devices, and many techniques have been proposed to solve such problems as gate signal delay, feed-through voltage and image sticking. To improve these problems which are caused by the fried-through voltage, we have evaluated new driving methods to reduce the fled-through voltage. Two level gate-pulse was used for the gate driving of the cst-on-common structure pixels. And two-gate line driving methods with the optimized gate signals were applied for the cst-on-gate structure pixels. These gate driving methods were better feed-through characteristics than conventional simple gate pulse. The evaluation of the suggested driving methods were performed by using a TFT-LCD array simulator PDAST which can simulate the gate, data and pixel voltages of a certain pixel at any time and at any location on a TFT array. The effect of the new driving method was effectively analyzed.

  • The in vitro antibody discovery technologies revolutionized the generation of target-specific antibodies that traditionally relied on the humoral response of immunized animals. An antibody library, a large collection of diverse, pre-constructed antibodies, can be rapidly screened using in vitro display technologies such as phage display. One of the keys to successful in vitro antibody discovery is the quality of the library diversity. Antibody diversity can be obtained either from natural B-cell sources or by the synthetic methods that combinatorially generate random nucleotide sequences. While the functionality of a natural antibody library depends largely upon the library size, various other factors can affect the quality of a synthetic antibody library, making the design and construction of synthetic antibody libraries complicated and challenging. In this review, we present various library designs and diversification methods for synthetic antibody library. From simple degenerate oligonucleotide synthesis to trinucleotide synthesis to physicochemically optimized library design, the synthetic approach is evolving beyond the simple emulation of natural antibodies, into a highly sophisticated method that is capable of producing high quality antibodies suitable for therapeutic, diagnostic, and other demanding applications. • Printed Electronics is a relatively new subject where electronics and display appliances are mass-produced by employing low-cost printing techniques with electronic materials suspended in a liquid medium, and many efforts to develop materials, process and equipment to commercialize low-cost electronics and display parts have been made since 2007 in the Republic of Korea. In this work, the development status of printing equipment for printed electronics and display components in the size of a few micrometers and tens of micrometers is briefly introduced.

  • Many three-dimensional object modeling and display methods for computer graphics and computer vision have been developed. Recently, with the help of medical imaging devices such as computerized tomography, magnetic resonance image, etc., some of those object modeling and display methods have been widely used for capturing the shape, structure and other properties of real objects in many medical applications. In this paper, we propose the reconstruction and display method of the three-dimensional object from a series of the cross sectonal image. It is implemented by using the automatic threshold selection method and the contour following algorithm. The combination of curvature and distance, we select feature points. Those feature points are the candidates for the tiling method. As a results, it is proven that this proposed method is very effective and useful in the comprehension of the object's structure. Without the technician's responce, it can be automated.

  • Undesirable negative image is occurred in photographs taken across partial reflections such as glass window and electronic display. Efficient removing reflections given a single image are in the spotlight in recent researches. This paper discusses and evaluates two published image reflection removal algorithms, and compares the performance of time and quality of those methods with a common dataset. As benchmarking test cases are presented, we propose to modify one of the methods to reduce the run-time with small effects on the similar image quality.

  • This study identified characteristics of Christmas window display, which is one of visual marketing methods used in department stores, using cases of department stores in Seoul and the New York and to compare the characteristics between Seoul and New York department stores in order to extract the directions and components of window display in each country. Based on the photographs of Christmas window display at the sampled Seoul and New York department stores, we analyzed the window display of each department store. From the results of analysis were drawn conclusions as follows. First, as to the direction of Christmas window display design in Seoul and New York department stores, window display was designed using various themes according to the characteristic of each department store. In case of Seoul department stores, however, specific luxury brands linked to the characteristics of the department stores displayed their products separately, but in New York department stores, various Christmas themes, images related to the department stores, and products were displayed together according to the characteristic of the department stores. Second, among display components, the formative structure and the frequency of mannequin use were different between Seoul and New York department stores. Various formative structures and diverse mannequins used in the window display of New York department stores played the role of stamping the brand image of each department store and exhibiting various designs through window display.

  • In this paper, we propose the delta-shaped interpolation method for displaying multi-source video signals on a-Si TFT LCD Panel. The proposed method can be implemented by using less circuits than the conventional methods. Thus it can be applied to the FPD(Flat Panel Display) system without any cost increase such as field memory cost. In order to compare the picture quality of the proposed method with that of the conventional methods, the computer simulation has been executed by checking PSNR, which is especially focused on the edge characteristics. The simulation results show that the proposed method is better than others from the point of view on the edge and local characteristics of the image. Finally, the characteristics and trade-off of the proposed method are discussed.
