This research is a park of a research program to develope a new design method for reinforced concrete bridge columns under axial load and cyclic lateral load. The objectives of this paper are to investigate the relationship between curvature ductility and displacement ductility and to propose a correlation equation for designing of reinforced concrete bridge columns under axial load and cyclic lateral load. Computer program NARCC was used for parametric study, which was proved to provide good and conservative analytical result especially for deformation capacity and ductility factor compared with test result. A total of 7,200 spirally reinforced concrete columns were selected considering the main variables such as section diameter, aspect ratio, concrete strength, yielding strength of longitudinal and confinement steel, longitudinal steel ratio, axial load ratio, and confinement steel ratio. A new equation between curvature ductility factor displacement ductility factor with the aspect ratio was proposed by investigation of 21,600 data produced from the selected column models by applying 3 different definitions of yield displacement.
This paper presents a comprehensive work on determination of yield base shear coefficient and displacement ductility factor of three to eight story actual reinforced concrete buildings, instead of using generic frames. The building data is provided by a walkdown survey in different locations of the pilot areas. Very detailed three dimensional models of the selected buildings are generated by using the data provided in architectural and reinforcement projects. Capacity curves of the buildings are obtained from nonlinear static pushover analyses and each capacity curve is approximated with a bilinear curve. Characteristic points of capacity curve, the yield base shear capacity, the yield displacement and the ultimate displacement capacity, are determined. The calculated values of the yield base shear coefficients and the displacement ductility factors for directions into consideration are compared by those expected values given in different versions of Turkish Seismic Design Code. Although having sufficient lateral strength capacities, the deformation capacities of these typical mid-rise reinforced concrete buildings are found to be considerably low.

This research was conducted to investigate the seismic behavior and ductility of circular spiral reinforcement concrete bridge columns used in high strength concrete. The experimental variables consisted of transverse steel amount and spacing, different axial load levels. From the test results, sufficient displacement ductility(at least 5.5) was observed for the columus which was satisfied wi th the requirement confinement steel amount of the Korean Bridge Design Specification. In case of the columns with 50 MPa of concrete compressive strength, the columns wi th 80 % of the confinement steel amount requirement showed adequate displacement ductility(at least 6.5) under 0.2 of axial load level. And in case of the columns with 60.2 77a of concrete compressive strength, the columns with 44 \ulcorner of the confinement steel requirement provided adequate displacement ductilit under less than 0.1 of axial load level and the columns with 0.22 % provided showed comparatively high the ducti1iffy under 0.21 of axial load level.
The main objective of this study was to derive a formula of ductility reduction factor, expressed as $R_{\mu}$. To attain this objective, a study comprised reduction factors computed for stiffness degrading systems undergoing different levels of ductility and to investigate an accuracy of the formula. Based on this study, the main conclusions can be summarized :(1) The ductility reduction factor is primarily affected by the period of the system and the displacement ductility ratio. (2) The proposed formula is simpler and the inelastic deformations of bridge structures are better than those by the others formulas we used before.
Expressions for the calculation of ductility index for concrete girders with different ratios of prestressed and classical reinforcement were proposed using load-displacement, load-strain and load-curvature relation. The results of previous experimental static tests of several large-scale concrete girders with different ratio of prestressed and classical reinforcement are briefly presented. Using the proposed expressions, various ductility index of tested girders were calculated and discussed. It was concluded that the ductility of girders decreases approximately linearly by increasing the degree of prestressing. The study presents an expression for the calculation of the average ductility index of classical and prestressed reinforced concrete girders, which are similar to the analysed experimental test girders.

Displacement amplification factor can be used to estimate inelastic displacement demands from elastic displacement demands, The simple formula for displacement amplification factor considering hysteretic behavior of structural system and earthquake characteristics is proposed. And the effects of several parameters such as displacement ductility, strain hardening ratio, period, characteristics of earthquakes and hysteretic models for the displacement amplification factor are evaluated. Accuracy of the proposed formula is evaluated by comparing the displacement amplification factors estimated by existing and proposed formula with those calculated from inelastic time history analysis. The displacement amplification factors by proposed formulas provide a good agreement with those calculated by inelastic time history analysis.
Post-earthquake reconnaissance and experimental research indicate that squat reinforced concrete (RC) columns in existing buildings or bridge piers are vulnerable to non-ductile shear failure. Recently, several experimental studies were conducted to investigate upgrading the shear resistance capacity of such columns in order to modify their failure mode to ductile one. Among these upgrading methods is the use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) jackets. One of the preferred analytical tools to simulate the response of frame structures to earthquake loading is the lumped plasticity macromodels due to their computational efficiency and reasonable accuracy. In these models, the columns' nonlinear response is lumped at its ends. The most important input data for such type of models is the element's lateral force-displacement backbone curve. The objective of this study is to verify an analytical method to predict the lateral force-displacement ductility relationship of axially and laterally loaded rectangular RC squat columns retrofitted with FRP composites. The predicted relationship showed good accuracy when compared with tests available in the literature.
In this study, inelastic displacement ratios and ductility demands are investigated for SDOF systems with period range of 0.1-3.0 s. with elastoplastic behavior considering soil structure interaction. Earthquake motions recorded on different site conditions such as rock, stiff soil, soft soil and very soft soil are used in analyses. Soil structure interacting systems are modeled with effective period, effective damping and effective ductility values differing from fixed-base case. For inelastic time history analyses, Newmark method for step by step time integration was adapted in an in-house computer program. Results are compared with those calculated for fixed-base case. A new equation is proposed for inelastic displacement ratio of interacting system ($\tilde{C}_R$) as a function of structural period of interacting system ($\tilde{T}$), strength reduction factor (R) and period lengthening ratio ($\tilde{T}/T$). The proposed equation for $\tilde{C}_R$ which takes the soil-structure interaction into account should be useful in estimating the inelastic deformation of existing structures with known lateral strength.

This paper present a summary of the results of statistical study of the ductility factor which is key component of response modification factor(R). To compute the ductility factor, a group of 1,860 ground motions recorded from various earthquake was considered. Based on the local site conditions at the recording station, ground motions were classified into four groups according to average shear wave velocity. Inleastic spectrum were computed for elastic perfectly plastic SDOF systems undergoing different level of inelastic deformation and period. Ductility factors were calculated by deviding elastic response spectrum by inelastic response spectrum. The influence f displacement ductility ratio, site condition, magnitude and epicentral distance on ductility factors were studied. The coefficient of variation was computed to evaluated the dispersion of ductility factors as the defined ratio of the standard deviation to the mean.
This paper presents a study on the flexural ductility of reinforced concrete beams, 16beams with different concrete strength, reinforcement ratio, reinfo- rcement strength. For the purpose of inducing flexural failure, the reinforce ratio ($\rho$-$\rho$') was made not to be more than $0.75\rho$b in accordance with ACi code 318-89. From the test results, it is found that in case of a concrete strength increased from 240 to 650kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the displacement and curvature ductility factore are increased by about 31-231 percents. And also increased in case of increased from 650 to 900kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, but the increasing ratio is gradually decreasing accoding to a concrete strength increases. And also found that as the Double Re-bar Ratio (($\rho$-$\rho$')/$\rho$b) increases, so the displacement and curvature ductility ratio would decrease, but in case of increased from 650 to /$900kg\textrm{cm}^2$ the decreasing ration is bigger than in case of increased from 240 to $650kg/\textrm{cm}^2$.
