  • The characterization of laser mirrors is important for obtaining proper performance of femtosecond lasers. Characteristics of laser mirrors are usually described in terms of their reflectivity at a certain wavelength. In femtosecond laser applications, however, the dispersion property of the mirror should be considered because the temporal shape of a femtosecond light pulse changes during the reflection at the mirrors. • This paper represents the results of interpretation on the cause of sign changing of the striation slopes appearing in the range-frequency domain spectrogram of ship-radiated noise measured in a shallow sea. Striation patterns and dispersion characteristics simulated from a numerical model based on mode theory at various seabed conditions show that the sign changing of the striation slopes appearing in measured signal is caused by the shear property of seabed. more specifically by the shear property of the basement lying below the sediment which is estimated about 3±1m thick.

  • Polypropylene (PP)/corn starch master batch (starch-MB)/silicate composites with different corn starch compositions of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 were prepared by melt compounding at $200^{\circ}C$, using lab scale Brabender mixer. The content of silicate was fixed at 5 wt%. The composition of starch-MB in composites was confirmed by the existence of hydroxy group and peak intensity in fourier-transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectrum. The thermal properties of the PP/starch-MB/silicate composites were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). There was no district change in melting temperature, and TGA curve indicates a decrease in degradation temperature with the increase of starch-MB content. The silicate dispersion of the composites was measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The degree of silicate dispersion in PP/starch-MB/silicate composites depended on the content of starch-MB. There was detectable change in d-spacing and peak intensity of the composite when the content of starch-MB was higher than 20 wt%. The rheological behavior of the composites was explained by both shear thinning effect and elastic property with the starch-MB amount. These effects were remarkable when the content of starch-MB was higher than 20 wt%. These were confirmed by an oscillatory viscometer at $200^{\circ}C$.

  • SiC nanoparticles were used to increase flexural properties of polymer matrix. This study was to manufacture huge concentration SiC nanoparticle/epoxy composites and to evaluate the dispersion. During mixing SiC nanoparticle and epoxy, 20 wt% SiC nanoparticle in total composites was used with both stirrer and sonication equipment together. Mixing speed and dispersion were improved with the method by using both stirrer and sonication equipment at the same time via mechanical test and FE-SEM. Based on the results, modeling of SiC nanoparticle dispersion could be established. Ultimately, unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced composites was manufactured using 20 wt% SiC nanoparticle/epoxy. Mechanical property of CFRP using dual stirrer and sonication mixing method was better than composites by single sonication mixing method.

  • Polyamide 12 (PA12) oligomers (oPA1) were prepared by dispersion polymerization of ${\omega}$-amino carboxylic acid and dibasic acid in a dispersion medium, thermally stable hydrocarbon liquid paraffin, YK-D130 (a step polymerization). The molecular weight and various properties of other oligomeric PAs (oPA2) obtained by bulk polymerization without the medium were compared with those of oPA1s. The oPA1s showed lighter white color and narrower molecular weight distribution than oPA2s at the same molecular weight. Moreover elastomeric poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBA)s were synthesized with oPA1 and oPA2 as hard segments and poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) as a soft segment. The molecular weight distribution, and mechanical property of the PEBA originated from the both oligomeric PAs were characterized.

  • Olmesartan affiliated to biopharmaceutics classification system class 2 is a poorly water soluble drug. For this reason, olmesartan showed a low bioavailability and a lot of difficulties in the process of designing the pharmaceutical formulation. We prepared the solid dispersions of olmesartan. We confirmed the dissolution rate of drug which was prepared by manufacturing. The pharmaceutical formulation of solid dispersions was designed by using PVP as water soluble polymer. We analyzed morphological feature of solid dispersion by employing a scanning electron microscope. Then, the crystalline property of solid dispersion was confirmed through X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimeter. Also, the chemical change of solid dispersion was confirmed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In vitro dissolution test was used to analyze the dissolution rate of solid dispersion. The prepared solid dissolution olmesartan confirmed the dissolution rate in the pH 1.2. It was compared with olmetec and improved dissolution rate through solid dispersion.

  • NiAl powders containing oxide dispersoids have been produced by mechanical alloying process in a controlled atmosphere using high energy attrition mill. The powders have been consolidated by hot extrusion and hot pressing followed by isothermal annealing to induce microstructure coarsening to improve high temperature properties. Grain growth and dispersoid coarsening kinetics have been investigated as functions of annealing time and temperature. Coarsening of dispersion strengthen NiAl and dispersoid has been discussed. Some clues of secondary recrystallization have been investigated. Mechanical property measurements have been also made and correlated with the microstructures.

  • The properties of the mixed prepolymer-urethane in the range of 10-40 phr were observed. LBR and LCR have same functional group but different in structure of molecular. The viscosity of mixture depending on content of rubber, adhesive strength, thermal property and compatibility with a diluted solvent are as follows: 1. The viscosity of the mixture was influenced by solubility of the diluent for urethane resin and liquid rubber. 2. Adhesive strength showed the highest value at 30phr rubber, decreased gradually at above 30phr rubber. And LBR revealed better physical property than that of LCR. 3. The most effective factors affecting adhesive strength are molecular structure of rubber, the type of solvent, and volatility. 4. Urethane resin containing LBR showed better compatibility for solvent and faster drying velocity. 5. LBR showed more favorable compatibility and dispersion state than those of LCR by analyzing the results of SEM.

  • For the process control of silicon nitride gelcasting, the effect of MeOH on the apparent gel induction time of slip, drying rate, and mechanical property of gelcast body were investigated. The apparent gel induction time showed maximum at 10~20 vol% MeOH and the drying rate of gelcast body increased in the ranged of 25~40%. The gelcast body was still machinable in the 40% of MeOH, though the mechanical property and relative density slightly decreased with increasing the amount of MeOH.
