Nonaqueous phase liquids(NAPL) not readily dissolved in water exist as a separate fluid phase. Groundwater contamination by NAPL such as organic solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons becomes major public concerns because of their long-term persistence in the subsurFace and their ability to contaminate large volumes of wate. Dense.-than-water NAPL(DNAPL) spilled into the subsurface penetrate through the saturated zone and ultimately form DNAPL pools on the bottom of the aquifer. The dissolution of DNAPL from these pools depends on the molecular diffusion coefficient, the vertical dispersivity, the groundwater velocity, the solubility, and the pool length. In this study, the vertical transverse dispersion coefficients for simulating the dissolution of DNAPL from such pools were obtained from the dissolution experiment. Under the experimental conditions used, the vertical transverse dispersion coefficients calculated were 1.86$cm^2$/day, 2.90$cm^2$/day and 4.51$cm^2$/4ay for seepage velocities of 59.2cm/day, 94.3cm/day and 158.0cm/day, respectively. And the vertical transverse dispersivity was 0.03024cm.
A flexible dispersion-managed link configuration is proposed by using single-mode fibers (SMFs) and dispersion-compensating fibers (DCFs) with irregular dispersion coefficients and lengths over all fiber spans for compensating of WDM channels distortion due to the group velocity dispersion and nonlinear effects of optical fibers. The flexibility of link is enabled by artificially distributing of these fibers based on the dispersion coefficients of DCFs in each half transmission section. The simultaneous ascending and descending (AD) distribution of the DCF's coefficients before and after the optical phase conjugator, respectively, best compensates the distorted wavelength division multiplexed signals in the optical link. Therefore, to improve the compensation effect of the distorted WDM channels, AD distribution is needed to choice regardless of fiber lengths and the residual dispersion per span and fiber's dispersion coefficients.

The compensation characteristics of 40 Gbps optical signals depending on figure of merit (FOM) of dispersion compensating fiber with dispersion coefficient of -125 ps/nm/km are investigated in this research. Simulation results show that the more fiber span number and launch power increase, the more the effects of FOM of DCF on the compensated signals increase. However, it is also confirmed that the more the effects of optical nonlinearity increase, the more FOM decrease.
Depending upon the combination of tolerances specified in the standards on bolt, nut and washer for high tension bolt sets, there arises center-to-center deviation between bolt and washer. This deviation nay cause loss of effective contact area between nut- and washer-faces, which leads to some dispersion of the torque coefficient K. By adapting circular arc surface instead of flat surface for the nut, it is shown through numerical analyses that the dispersion of the torque coefficient can be minimized. In this way, optimum radius of curvature of the nut bearing surface is proposed.
The Pasquill-Gifford stability category is a very important scheme of the Gaussian type dispersion model defined the complex turbulence state of the atmosphere by A grade(very unstable) to F grade(very stable). But there has been made a point out that this stability category might decrease the predictability of the model because it was each covers a broad range of stability conditions, and that they were very site specific. The APSM (Air Pollution Simulation Model) was composed of the turbulent parameters, i.e. friction velocity(${\mu}$$\_$*/), convective velocity scale($\omega$$\_$*/) and Monin-Obukhov length scale(L) for the purpose of the performance increasing on the case of the unstable atmospheric conditions. And the PDF (Probability Density Function)model was used to express the vertical dispersion characteristics and the profile method was used to calculate the turbulent characteristics. And the performance assessment was validated between APSM and EPA regulatory models(TEM, ISCST), tracer experiment results. There were very good performance results simulated by APSM than that of TEM, ISCST in the short distance (<1415 m) from the source, but increase the simulation error(%) to stand off the source in others. And there were differences in comparison with the lateral dispersion coefficient($\sigma$$\_$y/) which was represent the horizontal dispersion characteristics of a air pollutant in the atmosphere. So the different calculation method of $\sigma$$\_$y/ which was extrapolated from a different tracer experiment data might decrease the simulation performance capability. In conclusion, the air pollution simulation model showed a good capability of predict the air pollution which was composed of the turbulent parameters compared with the results of TEM and ISCST for the unstable atmospheric conditions.

In this paper, the characteristics of compensation for interferenced mid-channel signal by neighbor channels through four-wave mixing (FWM) process dominantly is investigated as a function of channel input power, fiber dispersion coefficient and transmission length in WDM system with equally spaced channels. The compensation method used in this research is mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI). The highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) is used as a nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in order to compensate wideband WDM signals. First, we confirmed that the effect of FWM on channel interference is gradually reduced as fiber dispersion coefficient becomes gradually smaller, independent of signal format. And, we confirmed that RZ is better than NRZ as a modulation format for transmitting high power channel with allowable reception quality. But realization of flexible WDM systems regardless of channel number variation is possible by using NRZ rather than RZ format.

With an aim at eliminating the numerical dispersion error arising from the numerical simulation of stress wave propagation, numerical dispersion characteristics of the wave equation based one-dimensional finite element model are analyzed and some dispersion control scheme are proposed in this paper The dispersion analyses are carried out for two types of mass matrix, namely the consistent and the lumped mass matrices. Based on the finding of the analyses, dispersion correction techniques are developed for both the implicit and explicit schemes. For the implicit scheme, either the weighting factor for the spatial derivatives of each time level or the lumping coefficient for mass matrix is adjusted to minimize the numerical dispersion. In the case of the explicit scheme an artificial dispersion term is introduced in the governing equation. The validity of the dispersion correction techniques proposed in this study is demonstrated by comparing the numerical solutions obtained using the Present techniques with the analytical ones.

A depth-averaged X-Y numerical model with transformed coordinates is developed to analyze the salinity dispersion in estuaries. Simulation of intertidal zones, residual current and closed boundary condition are examined. Especially. the improvements in stability and accuracy of the numerical algorithm are made by adopting fractional step method for the dispersion term of the governing equation. The model being applied to the Keum River Esturary, velocity fields and salinity fields are reproduced satisfactorily and the estimation of the dispersion coefficient with respect to the flow fold is also studied.
