  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of body image, body dissatisfaction, and drive for slimness, as mediated by self-esteem and depression, on eating disorder behavior according to gender The subjects of this study were 243 male and 323 female university students from Chungbuk National university in Cheonju. On the basis of previous literature, the theoretical model was specified and estimated for the adequacy of statistical fit for male and female students separately. The proposed theoretical model was supported by the data and fitted adequately. As expected, body image, body dissatisfaction, and desire for thinness had a direct effect on self-esteem for female students. However, whereas body image and body dissatisfaction directly influenced on male students' self-esteem, while desire for gaining weight had no direct effect. Eating disorder behavior in female students was predicted by body dissatisfaction, body image, and self-esteem. For male students, desire for gaining weight and self-esteem strongly predicted eating disorder behavior. The results indicate that the influence of body image, body dissatisfaction, and desire for thinness on eating disorder behavior can be mediated not by depression but by self-esteem.

  • This study examines the extent to which community cohesion moderates the effects of neighborhood disorder on community integration among persons with mental illnesses(MI) who are living in the community. Stress process model, social disorganization theory, and neighborhood disorder model were considered with regard to the moderating effect of community cohesion. 692 persons with MI who utilized Community Mental Health Enhancement Centers were surveyed and analyzed, employing moderated regression model. Major findings showed that neighborhood disorder increased social integration. Community cohesion moderated the relationships of neighborhood disorder to three dimensions of community integration: physical, social and psychological integration. Implications for community intervention beyond the individual and service-level interventions were addressed in order to accomplish community integration for persons with MI.

Methods : A literature search of the PubMed database identified 10 studies published up to December 2017, using the following search terms: autism, autism spectrum disorder, ASD, high-function autism, high-function ASD, Asperger syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder, PDDNOS, intervention, and early intervention. Results : Early intervention for children with ASD used Applied Behavior Analysis in 8 of the 10 selected studies. The other two studies used a Sensory Integration approach and Technology-based intervention. Most studies reported positive effects on communication skills, social interaction skills, intelligence, adaptive behavior, and improved attention through early intervention. Conclusions : These results suggested a basis for early intervention for children with ASD. Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of early intervention.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of combined biofeedback training with pharmacotherapy for patients with anxiety disorder. Methods : 12 patients with panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder were enrolled this study. They were tested for State Trait Anxiety Inventory-State (STAI-S), State Trait Anxiety Inventory-Trait (STAI-T), Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI) and Symptom CheckList-90-Revision Somatization (SCL-90-R-SOM) before and after the biofeedback training program. Results : The score of STAI-T (p=0.023) and BDI (p=0.0018) were the significantly decreased after the biofeedback training program. In Female group, the score of STAI-T (p=0.028), STAI-S (p=0.028) and BDI (p=0.009) were significantly decreased after the biofeedback training program. In the group which age is lower than 40 years old, the score of BDI (p=0.046) were significantly decreased after the biofeedback training program. In Panic disorder group, the score of STAI-S (p=0.046) were significantly decreased after the biofeedback training program. Conclusion : The result of this study is useful for the treating the anxiety disorder patients using the biofeedback training program.
