A new bacterial disease was found on leaves of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana plant grown under vinyl-house condition in winter of 1998 in Taejeon. the first symptoms of the disease are the appearance of the water-soaked and light brown spots. Later they become soft rot with brown color. Causal bacteria were isolated from diseased tissues and the same symptoms as the natural infection were developed on Kalanchoe blossfeldiana leaves by needle-prick inoculation. The causal bacterium was identified Erwinia hervicola by its bacteriological characteristics. This is the first reported of this bacterium to occur on kalanchoe blossfeldiana plant in Korea. Therefore, we proposed to name the diseases as \"bacterial soft rot of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana\" by E. herbiocla.
One thirty one varieties of Groundnut were screened for search of multiple disease resistance against rust caused by Puccinia arachidis speg. and leaf spots caused by Cereospora arachidis Hori and Phaeoisariopsis personata . Out of these, 7 were resistant, and 11 were moderatly resistant. Percent disease severity and its' effect on yield was assessed.

Objective To know about hygienic condition of drinking water in rural area of Kunming. Methods Selected 4 counties with different economy to investigate. In every county, according to the proportion, 10 drinking water spots were selected by randomization of lift drinking water'. Results In 4 areas, surface water for drinking is 82.41%, under water is 17.59%. And concentrated supply is 83.02% by populated proportion, others are 16.98%. 40 specimens qualification rate is 47.50%, and in it concentrated supply is 87.50%, others are 19.05%. Conclusion Unhealthy drinking water exist in most testing counties. Mainly microorganism isn't qualified. Concentrated management in drinking water is batter than other ways.
Black spot of sweet persimmon, caused by Alternaria alternata, occurred in an orchard in Gyeongnam province, Korea in 2012. The symptom was appearance of 0.5 to 4 cm black spots on the surface of fruit. The pathogen was isolated from flesh of disease lesions. The causal agent was identified as A. alternata by morphological characteristics and sequencers of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) 1 and ITS4 regions of rRNA. Artificial inoculation of the pathogen resulted in development of disease symptoms and the re-isolated pathogen showed characteristics of A. alternata.
This experiment was executed to control effectively endemic disease of swine farms in Incheon metropolitan city. Mainly using PigMon program which had been developed by the College of Veterinary Medicine in the University of Minnesota(USA), we examined lesions of gastric ulcer and interstitial nephritis additionally. 446 heads of pigs shipped from 5 farms in Incheon to a slaughterhouse from June in 2003 to May in 2004 were examined. Infection rates by farms were obtained as follows; 1. Pneumonia was varied from 34.6% to 74.1% and pneumonic score was 1.47∼7.06. As for atrophic rhinitis, four farms were 100% and one farm was 89.5% and rhinitis score was 1.3∼3.2. 2. The infection rate of pericarditis and peritonitis was 1.0∼3.9% and liver white spots, papular dermatitis were observed in pigs of 9.8∼29.7%, 16.7∼51.4% respectively. 3. The outbreak rates of interstitial nephritis, lesions of ileal thickening and gastric ulcer were 15.4∼24.1%, 7.7∼13.5%, and 62.7%∼86.2% respectively.

During disease surveys from 2019 to 2021, the authors frequently encountered leaf spot symptoms on Fischer's ragwort plants growing at fields at six locations of Gangwon Province, Korea. The symptoms displayed brown to dark brown, circular or irregular spots on the plant leaves. The disease surveys at the six locations revealed 1-90% of diseased leaves of the plants. Phoma sp. was dominantly isolated from the diseased leaf lesions. Seven single-spore isolates of the fungus were selected and identified as Didymella ligulariae by investigation of their cultural, morphological, and molecular characteristics. Artificial inoculation test to Fischer's ragwort leaves was conducted with three isolates of D. ligulariae. The inoculation test revealed that the tested isolates cause leaf spot symptoms in the plants similar to the natural ones. The fungal pathogen has never been reported to cause leaf spot in Fischer's ragwort. Leaf spot of Fischer's ragwort caused by D. ligulariae is first reported in this study.

The physiological changes in sorghum (Sorghum vulgare Pers.) leaves infected with Drechslera sorghicola were investigated through five recognizable stages of disease development. Water-soaked yellowish brown spots developed two days after inoculation, turned brown with yellow halo, enlarged and coalesced at later stages of disease development. Healthy and infected leaves were analyzed for different biochemical constituents. The chlorophyll contents were decreased significantly with the progress of infection. The levels of reducing and total sugars increased while non-reducing sugars decreased to a significant extent with the progress of disease. The concentration of total phenolics, orthodihydroxy phenols, free and glycosidic phenols showed significant changes due to infection, whereas basic and acid phenols showed little or no change with disease development. Levels of phenolic compounds increased four days after inoculation and decrease thereafter, but the concentration was higher at every stage of disease development relative to healthy tissues. Polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase enzyme activities increased to varying degrees at different stages of infection. Analysis of protein fractions showed a significant increase with the progress of disease.
The heat-inactivated (at $121^{\circ}C$ for 20 min) conidial suspension of Bipolaris cactivora (HICS) was evaluated for the control of Bipolaris stem rot of cactus caused by B. cactivora. Severe rot symptoms were developed on the cactus stem discs inoculated with B. cactivora from 5 days after inoculation. However, only small brownish spots developed on the stem discs treated with HICS 2 days prior to the pathogen inoculation. HICS also reduced symptom development on cactus stem discs inoculated with other fungal pathogens such as Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and Fusarium oxysporum, suggesting its disease-inhibitory efficacy may not be pathogen-specific. HICS significantly reduced severities of the stem rot disease on several cactus species including Hylocereus trigonus, Cereus peruvianus, Chamaecereus silvestrii and Gymnocalycium mianovichii, but not on Cereus tetragonus. Extensive wound periderms were formed in the stem tissues of inoculation and/or wounding sites on C. peruvianus treated with HICS alone or prior to the pathogen inoculation, but not on C. tetragonus, indicating the structural modifications may be related to the mechanism of disease suppression by HICS. HICS also reduced the disease development on the grafted cactus (H. trigonus stock and G. mianovichii scion) with the control efficacy nearly equivalent to the application of a commercial fungicide. All of these results suggest HICS can be used as an environmental-friendly agent for the control of the cactus stem disease.

A severe disease with leaf spots and necrotic symptoms was observed in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) seedlings in April 2018 at a nursery in Kimjae, Korea (35o 47'09.8"N 127o 2'24.3"E). The infected plants initially showed spots on water-soaked cotyledons which, at later stages, enlarged and spread to the leaves, which the lesions becoming dry and chlorotic. The symptomatic samples were collected from cucumber and the isolates were cultured on LB agar. The representative bacterial strain selected for identification showed fluorescent on King's medium B, was potato rot-positive, levan and arginine dihydrolase-negative, oxidase-negative and tobacco hypersensitivity-positive in LOPAT group 2 as determined by LOPAT tests. A pathogenicity test was carried out on a 3-week-old cucumber. After 3 days of inoculation, leaf spots and necrotic symptoms appeared on the cucumber, similar to the originally infected plants. The infecting bacterial strain was identified as Pseudomonas viridiflava, by 16S rDNA sequence analysis. This is the first report of leaf spot diseases on cucumber caused by P. viridiflava.
The study has been carried to describe a new disease of strawberry in Korea, which was found in 1977 at Kimhae. Symptom of the disease occurred mainly on leaves as showing large annular brown spots or 'V' shaped brown lesions. Many of dark pycnidia were observed from the both side of old lesions. The pathogen was identified as Dendrophoma obscurans (Ell. & Ev) Anderson which has not been described in Korea as a pathogen of strawberry disease. The common name of the disease was given, temporaly, as Annular leaf blight of strawberry. In the laboratory study, light was necessary for the production of pycnidia and potato dextrose agar was the best media for tile pycnidia formation. There were some difference on resistance to the disease among 48 tested strawberry varieties though none of them shelved highly resistant reaction, and the older leaves showed more susceptible reaction than younger ones.
