Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the sexual behavior, health risk related to reproductive health, and characteristics of sexual experience among college students in Korea. Methods: Six thousands college students were selected through proportional quota sampling based on region, college, and gender. Structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics and chi-square test were used to describe the data. Results: Thirty eight percent (N=2,285) of the participants reported sexual intercourse. The mean age of first time sexual intercourse was 19.3 years old. Respondents reported the following health risks such as smoking, drinking, not exercising, no regular meal patterns, chronic disease status, and weight loss over 10 kg in the past three months showed significant differences by sexual intercourse experience (p<.01). Among those who had sexual intercourse experiences, 7.1% of them reported having a history of STDs and 11.6% reported a pregnancy or pregnancy of one's partner. Conclusion: The findings of this study reflect the current trends of sex behaviors among college students and correlations between health risks related to reproductive health and sexual intercourse experiences. Developing reproductive health education programs based on the findings and providing the programs to college students through a school nurse is suggested.
The Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry, and Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Maritime Affairs are in charge of livestock manure management. There are national statistics regarding the livestock industry such as the National Pollution Source Survey, Livestock Statistic Survey, and Livestock-breeding Trend Survey. The current statistical data are focused on the scale of livestock breeding and the production of livestock manure using these data, but it is difficult to establish database due to lack of information. In order to plan relevant policies including management of livestock manure, the government established database systems such as the integrated information system of livestock manure, the integrated system of national infectious animal-disease prevention, and the Sae-ol public administrative system. We have tried to suggest improvements for the comprehensive environmental information system of livestock manure management by detecting problems in each level of the livestock manure life-cycle, making use of the existing systems, and considering the electronic transfer system of livestock manure. The services and functions of this comprehensive system include information of livestock farmers, the production, collection, transportation, and treatment of livestock manure, the area of agricultural land used for livestock manure, the report of approval and results on livestock manure products, management of statistical information, management of civil affairs, and relevant mobile application services. The system is made up of three processes: first, establishment of GIS-based management database of livestock manure; second, establishment of a history management system for livestock manure transactions; and third, development of a water quality assessment system.

This qualitative research within the project entitled "Multiprofessional Intervention and training for Ongoing Volunteer-based Community Health Programs in the Northeast of Thailand (MITV-NET)" was aimed at explaining changes of health behavior of community people in the Northeast after the intervention. The participants comprised 15 community volunteers and 27 villagers. Data were collected by indepth interview, focus group discussion, participation and non-participation observation, and note taking. Analyses were conducted in parallel with data collection, through content and comparative analysis. It was found that the health behavior fell into 2 categories: easy-to-change. The former involved fun activities joined by community people that improved their health or made them recover from illnesses after a short period without becoming addicted. These activities could be done by themselves, for example, exercising and cooking. The difficult-to-change health behavior is habitual, for example, chewing betel nuts or eating uncooked food. The following factors were found affecting behavioral changes: 1) underlying disease; 2) enjoyment in doing activities; 3) habitual behaviour; 4) improved health in a short period; 5) ability of community leaders and volunteers; and 6) community health-supporting resources. It is suggested that improving people's health requires cooperation of community people through fun activities and some initial external support. People who persist in bad habits should be encouraged to stop by showing them health deteriorating effects.
In Korea, there is a need for safe and convenient elderly housing so that older people can enjoy a good quality of life and perform various daily activities while they maintain their health and well-being. Thus, this study is to suggest community -based housing settings for the elderly. We analyzed living space characteristics of the Continuing Care Retirement Communty(CCRC) in the U.S. In particular, we focused on CCRCs in the Oregon area and examined two types of settings: 1) a tower setting and 2) a town setting. The CCRC living arrangements include independent living, assisted living, nursing care, and memory care. We visited six CCRCs in Oregon during January through May in 2015. The field observations and floor plan surveys were conducted for data collection. The data analysis revealed that there are two types of arrangements: the suburban type and the urban type. Element analysis of the living unit designs for each CCRC type demonstrated typical space configurations. It was found that home care services were provided from local communities. It is suggested that community-based housing for the elderly should include mixed housing types so that community facilities can be shared. Medical services in the community were offered through healthcare institutions, disease prevention centers, welfare centers, and sports facilities. In order to apply these community-based care systems to elderly Korean housing, it is important to develop a community based on independent homes that share services and welfare facilities.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the types and frequencies of nursing intervention of home health care in Public Health Centers and its effects. Method: The data collection period for this study lasted from March 1 to December 31, 2003. The clients were sampled by a stratified randomized method among those who had been cared for at least 3 months. The data was analyzed by SPSS for description. ANOVA, paired t test, etc. Result: The types and frequencies of nursing intervention in major chronic health problems were significantly different. The main types of nursing intervention in hypertension and DM patients included education on disease management, regular exercise, stress management, diets, etc. CVA patients were intervened in pain control (ice or hot pack, massage), position changes, and ROM exercise. Cancer patients received imaginary or relaxation therapy, pain control (ice or hot pack, massage), hospice, etc. After the intervention, the drug compliance of hypertension (8.2 days per month) and DM patients (6.2 days per month) improved. Blood sugar levels (FBS 7.6, post partum 2hrs $21.4(mg/d{\ell})$ and blood pressure(systolic 9.8, diastolic 4.3 mmHg) lowered significantly. All aspects of QOL also improved (total 3.68). Conclusion: The types and frequencies of nursing intervention were determined by characteristics of the health problems, and home health care nursing intervention in Public Health Centers was effective to the elderly of the community in many aspects.
Because cancer is not curable, patients who suffer from the cancer disease may have physical, psychological and spiritual problems for the rest of their lives. Especially, when cancer patients do not have the meaning in their lives, they will experience spiritual distress seriously. This study was conducted to provide a basis for nursing intervention strategies to minimize the cancer patients' spiritual distress and understand the relationship between the meaning of life and the spiritual distress in cancer patients. The samples were composed of 62 cancer patients who were inpatients or outpatients of three university hospital and one general hospital in Seoul. Data collection was carried out from January 10,1998 to May 30, 1998. Data were analyzed using a SAS program for descriptive statistic, Pearson correlation, t-test, ANOVA, LSD test and linear regression. The results were as follows; 1. The scores on the meaning of life scale ranged from 20 to 140 with a mean of 94. 16(Standard error: 2.79). 2. The scores on the spiritual distress scale ranged from 13 to 91 with a mean of 62. 29(Standard error: 1.38). 3. There were significant correlations between the meaning of life and the spiritual distress(r=.53. p=.00). 4. The linear regression analysis showed that the meaning of life explained 29% of the spiritual distress. 5. In the degree of the meaning of life and the spiritual distress according to the general characteristics, the level of the meaning of life in cancer patients were different by age(F=3. 42, p=.03), marriage status(F=6.06, p=.00), religion(F=4.21, p=.01), thought about treatment of cancer(F=3.76, p=.04). And the level of the spiritual distress in cancer patients were different by religion(F=7.56, p=.00). In conclusion, the meaning of life was identified as important variable that was contributed to reduce the spiritual distress in cancer patients.

Background: There are several factors that threaten the dignity of cancer patients in hospital settings. However, there is limited literature regarding the degree to which dignity of cancer patients is actually respected in daily clinical practice. The aims of this study were therefore to explore cancer patient perceptions of respecting their dignity and related variables in an Iranian cancer specific center. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was carried out among 250 cancer patients admitted to a cancer specific center in East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. These patients were selected using a convenience sampling method. The Patient Dignity Inventory (PDI) was used for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Results: The patients' scores in 18 out of 25 items of PDI were 3 or greater which indicate the importance of considering these items in clinical settings. Also, the score of patients in three sub-scales of PDI including illness-related concerns, personal dignity, and social dignity were 74, 65 and 57, respectively (based on a total 100). The overall score of PDI was statistically associated with age, history of disease recurrence, education, employment and economic status of participants. Conclusions: According to the study findings the dignity of Iranian cancer patients is not completely respected in clinical settings which require special considerations. As nurses spend more time at patients' bedsides, they have an important role in maintaining and promoting dignified care.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of coping mechanisms on uncertainty and depression. The subjects were 71 cancer patients selected from Junbook National University Hospital, and the data collection period was from June 21 to October 19 of 2000. Uncertainty was measured by using Mishel's Uncertainty Scale, problem- focused coping, and emotional-focused coping. The data was collected by a questionnaire developed by Lee (1984), and then depression measured by using Beck's depression scale. program by Pearson Correlation Coefficients, and Path analysis. The results were as follows : 1. The mean uncertainty score was 59.17, the mean problem-focused coping score was 48.78, the mean emotional-focused coping score was 42.52. 2. The mean depression score was 15.77. 3. Uncertainty in illness was significantly related to depression (p=0.003) and emotional-focused coping (p=0.028), but uncertainty was not associated with coping mechanisms. 4. When analyzed multiple regression between uncertainty, problem-focused coping, emotional- focused coping, and depression, more specifically emotional-focused coping showed a stronger association with depression than problem-focused coping. 5. Depression was highly correlated with economic status (p=0.015), educational background (p=0.005), duration of disease (p=0.045). 6. Problem-focused coping and emotional-focused coping appeared to function as moderators instead mediators on the relation between uncertainty and depression. In addition, as a whole, uncertainty showed a significant moderating effect on depression, while problem-focused coping did on depression. Finally, limitation of present findings were discussed and implications for future studies are suggested.

Purpose : This study investigated the relationship among adjustment of cancer, mental health, and family problem solving communication of women with cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine how to improve the adjustment of cancer of women and improve women's mental health to form family problem solving communication. Methods : This correlational study was conducted among 101 women with cancer living in the Seoul region. Data collection occurred from August 1, 2018, to August 23. The data are reported as means and standard deviations and were analyzed with t tests, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation regression using SPSS version 21.0. Results : The results of this study showed that adjustment to cancer significantly correlated with the education level of the participants (F=3.27, p<.05) and self-help group participation (F=3.156, p<.05). In this study, the mental health of female cancer patients significantly affected their adjustment to cancer (F=13.13, p<.001). These results explained 19.7% of the variance (F=13.13, p<.001) in mental health and adjustment to cancer in female cancer patients. Conclusion : In this study, mental health was significantly affected adjustment to cancer. The results suggest that adjustment to cancer can be promoted through the development and application of a nursing intervention program considering the mental health of female cancer patients. In addition, further research is required to identify the factors in consideration of various variables in addition to the sociodemographic and disease-related variables that may affect the adjustment to cancer of female cancer patients in nursing hospitals.
Background: In recent years, the interest in health and safety in the workplace has increased. Agriculture is one of the human work activities with the highest risk indexes. Studies on risk perception of agricultural workers are often referred to as specific risk factors (especially pesticides), but the risk perception plays an important role in preventing every kind of accident and occupational disease. Methods: The aim of this research is to test a new method for understanding the relation between risk perception among farmers and the main risk factors to which they are exposed. A secondary aim is to investigate the influence of training in risk perception in agriculture. The data collection was realized using a questionnaire designed to investigate the risk perception; the questionnaire was given to a sample of 119 agricultural workers in central Italy. Through the use of the "principal components analysis" it was possible to highlight and verify the latent dimensions underlying the collected data in comparison with scales of attitudes. Results: Results show that the highest percentage of strong negative attitude is among the people who have worked for more years, while farmers who have worked for fewer years have a marked positive attitude. Conclusion: The analysis of the questionnaires through the synthetic index method (Rizzi index) showed that agricultural workers involved, in particular the elderly workers, have a negative attitude towards safety; workers are hostile to safety measures if they have not attended special training courses.
