This study aims at the decision of geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph(GIUH) model parameter fore the ungaged or the data deficiented Basin, to analyze rainfall runoff relation in river basin by applying queueing theory with geomorphologic factors. The concept of GIUH model is based upon the principle of queueing theory of rain drops which may follow many possible routes during rainfall period within watershed system to ist outlet. Overland flow and stream flow can be simulated, respectively, by linear reservoir and linear channel conceptual models. Basically, the model is a mon-lineal and time variant hydrologic system model. The techniques of applying are adopted subarea method and mean-value method, the watershed is divided according to its stream number and order. To prove it to be applicable, the GIUH model is applied to the Wi-Stream basin of Nak-Dong River(Basin area; 475.53$\textrm{km}^2$), southen part of Korea. The simulated and the observed direct runoff hydrographs are compared with the peak discharge, times to peak and coefficients of efficiency, respectively, and the results show quite satisfactory. Therefore, th GIUH model can be extensively applied for the runoff analysis in the ungaged and the data deficiented basin.
This study hydrologically re-analysed the Muskingum channel routing method to represent it as a linear combination of the linear channel model considering only the translation and the linear reservoir model considering only the storage effect. The resulting model becomes a kind of instantaneous unit hydrograph, whose parameters are identical to those of the Muskingum model. That is, the outflow occurs after the routing interval ${\Delta}t$ or concentration time $T_c$, and among the total amount of inflow, the x portion is translated by the linear channel model and the remaining (1-x) portion is routed by the linear reservoir model with the storage coefficient $K_c$. The application result of both the Muskingum channel routing method and its corresponding instantaneous unit hydrograph to an imaginary channel showed that these two models are basically identical. This result was also assured by the application to the channel flood routing to the Kumnam and Gongju Station for the discharge from the Daechung Dam.
This study was conducted to investigate the hydrological characteristics of groundwater level change and rainfall-runoff processes at the Moojechi Bog located in Mt. Jeungjok, Ulsan. The average runoff rate of bog was 0.58 which is similar to that of general mountainous watershed. In the short term hydrograph, runoff was increased slowly and It took a long time to arrive peak flow. After that time, the decreasing pattern of runoff was slower than that of general mountainous watershed. In case of the long term water budget, the Moojechi Bog had a abundant base flow and runoff was continued in spite of non rainfall period. The groundwater level was arrived peak flow immediately after rain stop but was decreased very slowly until the next rain. The change pattern of long term groundwater level was very similar to that of the amount of rain and discharge. The higher rainfall intensity was, the lower slope of recession curve on the groundwater level was and the longer rainfall duration was, the longer peak flow was. Judging from these results, Moojechi bog could be evaluated to have a constant groundwater level.
It is usually not easy to simulate the hydrologic cycle or water quality for ungaged watersheds, especially for long-term simulation. In this paper we evaluated the applicability of GSSHA, a process-based distributed hydrologic model, for the long-term discharge and water quality simulation for the ungaged Peace dam watershed. From the comparative analysis of the simulated discharge and water quality series with measured ones, we concluded that with its overall fair performance on simulating hydrograph patterns of the peak discharges and base flows for major storms the GSSHA model showed some possibility to be used as a watershed model even with its overestimation of peak discharges for small storms and different trends of simulated water quality from measured ones for some periods.
It is important to extract and assess low-flow recession characteristics for water resources management in the upper reaches of a stream. It is difficult to express the groundwater flow recession characteristics for streamflow synthetically. The linear recession model has been widely used by baseflow recession analysis for reason of simplicity and convenience, but recent studies show that nonlinear recession models fit well, and the relationship between the reservoir storage of shallow unconfined aquifers and the groundwater discharge was to be identified as nonlinear in the literature based on the analysis of numerous streamflow recession curves. The objective of the study is to decode these nonlinear characteristics, including evaporation loss, storage, and recharge of groundwater using streamflow. By analyzing the observed time series of streamflow from the study area, which is the Pyeongchang River basin in Korea, the main components of the underlying groundwater balance, namely, discharge, evaporation loss, storage, and recharge, can be identified and quantified. As a result of the study, depletion of groundwater by evapotranspiration losses through the water uptake of tree roots was found to bias the recession curves and the estimated reservoir parameters. The seasonality of both rainfall and potential evaporation, analysis of the recession curves, stratified according to time of the year, allowed the quantification of evapotranspiration loss as a function of a calendar month and stored groundwater storage.

Recently, the rapid development of GIS technology has made it possible to handle a various data associated with spatially hydrological parameters with their attribute information. Therefore, there has been a shift in focus from lumped runoff models to distributed runoff models, as the latter can consider temporal and spatial variations of discharge. In this research, a distributed rainfall-runoff model based on physical kinematic wave for analysis of surface and river flow was used to simulate temporal and spatial distribution of long-term discharge. The snowfall and melting process model based on Hydro-BEAM was developed, and various hydrological parameters for input data of the model was extracted from basic GIS data such as DEM, land cover and soil map. The developed model was applied for the Shonai River basin(532) in Japan, which has sufficient meteorological and hydrological data, and displayed precise runoff results to be compared to the hydrograph.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the discharge patterns of Yongnup, Daeam-san. Many hydrographs were analyzed by the types of rising and falling stages, and the slope of those stages with the semi-log graph paper was a key point to distinguish the discharge patterns during rainstorms. The correlation between rainfall intensity and slopes of the second or third rising stage was higher than that between slopes of the first rising stage and rainfall intensity. Also, the coefficient of correlation between discharge decrement and the lapsed time from the peak to inflection point of hydrograph, during high water stages, was better than that during low water stages. The annual average discharge rate of Yongnup was 0.54 and the average direct runoff ratio was 0.14. The total discharge amount from Yongnup was about 410,000 tons for a water year, the monthly maximum amount emerged in September and the minimum amount was occurred in March. In summer, 37.7% was a seasonal maximum runoff ratio; on the other hand, 9.4% was a seasonal minimum runoff ratio in winter.

The main objective of this study is to provide a robust model for estimating parameters of the Clark unit hydrograph (UH) using the observed rainfall-runoff data in the Soyangang dam basin. In general, HEC-1 and HEC-HMS models, developed by the Hydrologic Engineering Center, have been widely used to optimize the parameters in Korea. However, these models are heavily reliant on the objective function and sample size during the optimization process. Moreover, the optimization process is carried out on the basis of single rainfall-runoff data, and the process is repeated for other events. Their averaged values over different parameter sets are usually used for practical purposes, leading to difficulties in the accurate simulation of discharge. In this sense, this paper proposed a hierarchical Bayesian model for estimating parameters of the Clark UH model. The proposed model clearly showed better performance in terms of Bayesian inference criterion (BIC). Furthermore, the result of this study reveals that the proposed model can also be applied to different hydrologic fields such as dam design and design flood estimation, including parameter estimation for the probable maximum flood (PMF).
In order to establish a rainfall-runoff model, calibration of hydrological parameters for the model is very important. Especially, Curve Number(CN), estimated by NRCS method, is a main factor to apply unit hydrograph theory to calculation of peak discharge. For using NRCS method, it is needed selecting AMC because CN is strongly connected with that. In this study, we focus our concern on finding a applicable standard for selecting AMC for CN. For this, three dams which are Boryeong, Habchon, Namgang are selected as target basins to use observed data including rainfall and dam inflow. As a result of this research, it is found that CN must be included as a calibrated parameter to calculate effective rainfall for the rainfall-runoff model. Also, it is preferred to use PWRMSE of HEC-HMS program as a objective function for optimizing hydrological parameters. From the analyzing result of variation of AMC for peak discharge, it is recommended to apply AMC-III to estimation of CN for calculating effective rainfall of design hydrograph.
The flood discharge on the rising limb of a hydrograph at Hwawon station greatly differs from the flood discharge on the falling limb for the same stage. When there is such a big hysteresis, there can be a significant amount of errors in the rated discharge obtained from a simple rating curve. To reduce errors in rated discharges, a looped rating curve was established for Hwawon station in the Nakdong River. In order to compute the deviation between real discharges and simply rated discharges, a simple rating curve was established using the stage and discharge data from the results of a hydraulic channel routing. The relationship between the discharge deviation ${\Delta}Q$ and a product of B and ${\Delta}h/{\Delta}t$ was analysed, where B is the channel topwidth; ${\Delta}h$ is the stage increment; At is the time increment. Strong relation between ${\Delta}Q$ and $B{\Delta}h/{\Delta}t$ was found. The discharges calculated from the relationship show differences by 10 % or less for the 7 observations out of 11 observations in 1997 whose stages exceeds 7 m. The observed discharges for the stages over 9 m in 1998 also show small difference with the discharges estimated from the loop rating curve. Looped rating curve is recommended, instead of the simple rating curve to reduce the errors of rated discharges for gauging stations like Hwawon, which has relatively large loop width.
