  • $SnO-2$ thin films for thin film secondary battery anode were deposited n glass substrate with stain-less steel collector and charge/discharge experiments were conducted to investigate feasibility of $SnO-2$ thin film as a new anode material. The as-deposited films were pure $SnO-2$ phase which is not related to deposition condition. The grain size on the surface of as-deposited films increased with increase of oxygen partial pressure. However, the grain size did not show any change above oxygen partial pressure of 80:20. The surface roughness of the as-deposited films increased after decreasing because of resputtering effect of oxygen negative ion in plasma. All films showed typical $SnO-2$ anode characteristics which has a side effect at the first cycle, which is not related to the deposition condition. The charge/discharge experiments of 200cycles indicated that capacity of $SnO-2$ films depended on oxygen contents and surface roughness. The cycle characteristics was determined by initial charge/discharge reaction. The $SnO-2$ film with low initial capacity showed more stable cycle characteristics than film with high initial capacity.

  • Hydrogen is attracting attention as an alternative energy source as an eco-friendly fuel without emitting environmental pollutants. In order to use hydrogen as an energy source, technologies such as hydrogen production and storage must be used, and new storage methods are being studied. In this study, the behavior of hydrogen in the storage tank were numerically studied under high-pressure hydrogen discharge conditions in a Type III hydrogen tank. Numerical results were compared with the experimental value and the results were quantitatively analyzed to verify the numerical implementation. With the results of pressure and temperature values under a given discharge condition, the Redich-Kwong gas model showed the adequate models with the smallest error between numerical and experimental results.

  • When a insulator plate is inserted to the discharge path of a space discharge gap in which the field strength is not uniform, the spark voltage under the atmospheric pressure between the electrodes decreases or rises according to the position of the insulating plate. Also it is reported that if a metallic barrier plate is inserted to the discharge path of the same space discharge gap, similar variations of spark voltage are found. Speaking briefly, mensioned above are the spark voltage characteristics when an insulator or metallic barrier is inserted to the space discharge gap. Also some experimental results, concerning to the surface creepage flash over characteristics at the case when an insulator barrier is inserted to the discharge path of a surface creepage discharge gap, were reported by Peek. But up to now there are no reports on surface flash over voltage characteristics at the case when a metallic barrier is inserted to the surface creepage gap. In this study the effects of a conducting metallic barrier inserted to the path of a surface creepage discharge gap on the flash over voltage characteristics are investigated theoretically and experimentally, and got some important results, clearing the effects of the position and width of a conducting barrier is inserted, the surface flash over voltage characteristics appear as an Inverse N or W Characteristics. Such theoretical or experimental results may have some relation not only with the effects of dry belt and snow on suspension insulators, but also with the effects of dirty zone or water drops on the surface creepage flash over voltage.

  • To evaluate the effect of trapped air bubbles in horizontal drains on discharge capacity, unsaturated discharge capacity tests are carried out for four types of drains selected according to the size of section as well as the shape of core. Unsaturated discharge capacities with the elapse of time, the increase of confining pressures, and hydraulic gradients are examined and are compared with saturated discharge capacities. It is found that the unsaturated discharge capacities at a hydraulic gradient of 0.01 decreased by 17%~80% due to the remained air bubbles in the drains compared with the saturated discharge capacities. It is caused by the fact that the horizontal direction of water flow is not consistent with the direction of movement of floating air bubbles in case of horizontal drains. Especially, far the drain with filament shaped core, discharge capacities decreased significantly due to the difficulty in removing air bubbles.

  • Recently, a semi-active shock absorber has been taking interest because of its low cost and simple structure than the active one. CFD analysis has been conducted to investigate the continuous and variable damping characteristics of the semi-active shock absorber. Also, the flow resistance characteristics of a spool valve has been examined to identify individual parameters(namely, exponent and discharge coefficient) of pressure-flow rate relation needed for the accurate valve modeling. The flow field in the damping valve was simulated using the commercial code, CFX-5.3. The numerical results showed reasonable agreement with the experimental outputs. The pressure distribution with the variation of spool opening length and volume flow rate were discussed in detail. And the continuous and variable damping performance was found clearly. The individual parameters of spool valve were obtained as a function of orifice area. The exponent and discharge coefficient were fitted in with the first and the third polynomial respectively.

  • In this work we measured electron temperature and electron density of a microplasma by optical emission spectroscopy. The plasma is generated from a small discharge gap of a microwave parallel stripline resonator (MPSR) in Helium at atmospheric pressure. The microwave power supplied for this plasma source from 0.5 to 5 watts at a frequency close to 800 MHz. The electron temperature and electron density were estimated through Collisional-radiative model combined with Corona-equilibrium model. The results show that the electron density and temperature of this plasma in the case small discharge gap width are higher than that in larger gap width. The diagnostic techniques and associated challenges will be presented and discussed.

  • Realistic containment analyses for large LOCA using a merged torsion of RELAP5/CONTEMPT4 are conducted. Analyzed are Generic LOCA with respect to the mass and energy releases from the RCS and containment pressure and temperature behaviors. The break locations considered are the double-ended guillotine breaks at the RCP discharge and hot legs for UCN 3&4 plants. For discharge leg break. the predicted containment pressure and temperature reach a peak during blowdown phase, thereafter the pressure and temperature decrease gradually without the second reflood peak. For the hot leg break it is found that the bypass break flow through the broken steam generator-during post-blowdown is negligibly small so that the containment atmosphere is not pressurized after the end of blowdown.

  • The joining processes of aluminum alloy tubes and polyurethane cores by electromagnetic impulsive compression are studied. The influences of various geometrical factors (the length of joined part, the thickness of tube, and the clearance between tube and core) and the process factors(the discharged energy and the number of discharge)are examined experimentally and discussed. And the magnetic pressure in metal/polymer joining is calculated and is compared to the pressure in metal/metal joining. The following results are obtained: (1) The joining strength is dependent upon the residual radial strain of the polyurethane cores. (2) The joining strength increases as discharged energy and the number of discharge increase, but decreases as the clearance, thickness and joining length of tube increases. (3) In the case of metal/polymer joining energy loss is increased and the value of magnetic pressure is less than that in the case of metal/metal joining.

  • The characteristics of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) in He discharge are measured with electrical and optical diagnostics methods. The discharge phenomenon in one cycle of the APPJ was diagnosed using intensified charge coupled device (ICCD) imaging. The gate mode images show that the propagation of plasma bullets happens only when the applied voltage on the inner conductor is positive. Moreover, the Schlieren image of the plasma jet shows that the laminar flow is changed into a turbulent flow when the plasma jet is turned on, especially when the gas flow rate increases.

  • Wool, silk and nylon 6 fabrics were treated with low-temperature plasma under atmospheric pressure of acetone/argon or helium/argon for 30 and 180 sec, and then dyed with leveling type acid dye, C.I. Acid Red 18 and milling type acid dye, C.I. Acid Blue 83. In spite of short time of the plasma treatment for thirty seconds, the color depth of wool fabrics was increased remarkably with both of the plasma gases, aceton/argon or helium/argon and with the kinds of dyes i.e., levelin type or milling type. But the atmosperic low-temperature plasmas did not increase the depth of silk and nylon 6 fabrics dyed with both of the acid dyes regardless of the teated time and plasma gases. It seems that low-temperature plasma by atmospheric-pressure discharge is effective for improvement of dyeing of wools as is the same way with the low-temperature plasma by glow discharge. The kinds of plasma gases and treated time did not influnce the depth of wool fabric pretreted with the atmosperic low-temperature plasmas.
